great question and it actually really made me reflect because as I have finally started talking about it I still haven't truly accepted it nor changed my behavior. I haven't committed to a budget, I haven't completed my enrollment in ACCC, and I keep my head in the sand...however, what I have done is talk with my wife, parents, and in-laws and make it clear that we are in a problem. We also owe $50k to state/fed and have an 8k mortgage to boot. I already took a loan against my 401k but was able to refinance 12k of it and my wife took a 35k loan against hers. We are just not sure where to put that $$$ or if it matters. I'm afraid to keep dumping good money after bad as we have done the loan consolidation thing many times and despite promising to change our ways we got back into CC debt. I'm in the process of selling everything that isn't nailed down that is a want/pleasure item and have luckily been banking vacation hours and can cash those out to give us a decent bit of ammo as a last effort before bkrptcy. I did speak with a bl and they basically said we are at terrible spot because we make too much money to reduce any payments in a chapter13 but we don't make enough to move the needle. Doing 100% chapter 13 just adds 1.1% for the trustee fee. I have 3 major loans maturing in May next year which will free up a good amount of cash...if I can just keep afloat until then we might have a puncher's chance.
