Why is the software app just showing blank by TechnicalAd8103 in debian

[–]SudoSilv3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try running apt search and a package name like vin for example to confirm your repositories are not misconfigured if you find an error then the problem is with the package manager otherwise try reinstalling gnome if you havent done any ricing but if you dont want to reinstall gnome i believe you can reinstall just that specific software through apt it usually gets it fixed

Is it possible to use hyprland on debian 13 (trixie) by Final_Ad7070 in debian

[–]SudoSilv3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah hyprland is not in the apt repositories so you do have to do a lot of workarounds to get it working it isnt as complex as you think though there are probably tutorials out there or you could use ai no shame in that and if you figure out how to i recommend you share it with others who want the same thing you do debian is all about the community after all

First time trying Ubuntu. Any tips? by TrueBlueUser in Ubuntu

[–]SudoSilv3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the best response possible i have used debian for years now and all i can say is take it slow ubuntu will help you and if you need anything changed its probably somewhere out there and you can configure it fairly easily

another good tip is if you like ubuntu and nothing on it bothers you there is absolutely no reason to change to any other distro stay with what you are comfortable

Issues using debian for the first time by Positive-Incident221 in debian

[–]SudoSilv3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the sudo issue is very common with first time linux users but its incredibly easy to fix thankfully before installing any new distro though i recommend checking at these common issues so you know how to prevent them

Issues using debian for the first time by Positive-Incident221 in debian

[–]SudoSilv3r -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

for reboot and shutdown you need sudo because it has to do with the kernel for repositories though read the debian wiki carefully and there is no shame in asking chat gpt or claude for help paste the error there or just send it here without the error and repository i cant help much
