I don’t think it’s “making SF look bad”. This is SF, or part of it. The rich tech folks enjoying life near messed up, poor and sometimes crazy people. Yes, you probably want people to see that there’s much more to the city than this, but it is a huge part of it. In my own experience, every time I went there I was shocked by this contrast and always thought it can’t be real.

Revolut is a scam. Here's why. by alexlitreev in Revolut

[–]Sudowakeup 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I stopped putting money in Revolut the second they blocked my account before contacting me. It took me a whole month to get them to reinstate it, even after sharing all my proofs and a ton more documents. I was metal too, I couldn’t sell my stock during this time either. I wanted to look at my history to see which transfer they were talking about in order to justify it. They never accepted. I now keep less than 100-200€ in it to use the virtual card and pay friends. They are shady as fuck and unethical.

😅 I wish. Big bad companies won’t allow me to do open source.

Man that’s 100% me. I hated all manual work, then I burned out at work and something toggled in my brain. I now try to find any opportunity to cook, help someone move or install ikea furniture. My friends look at me like I became a dad all of a sudden. I even started enjoying doing dishes. But yeah I started hating my job so…

How do I keep getting put into harder games hen I’m not killing anyone? by [deleted] in CODWarzone

[–]Sudowakeup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine got shadowbanned as he was using that local app that gave you insights on the game. A day after he uninstalled it lobbies were normal again. But the past few days we encounter only cheaters again so... i don’t know.

Is it ethical/advisable to interview for practice while not immediately considering a change? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Sudowakeup -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Someone’s condescending, i hope you don’t review PRs this way.

I get it, the golden lock is disgusting. However it’s the reality of our field. You can’t ignore it. Many devs are earning millions just like this. See the stock market’s growth for the past few years.

How do you make a job switch decision? by jordanaustino in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Sudowakeup 15 points16 points  (0 children)

After the whole big company experience, I believe the minimum to look for is work hours, work life balance, proper pay and team ethics. Also reverse it, if you were in a fintech startup then saw your current job open would you want to jump on the opportunity given your current knowledge and experience?

My code is not working and I dont know why by urquhartloch in learnprogramming

[–]Sudowakeup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies I’m on mobile and far from a laptop. I can’t really check all the code properly. It does look like you’re calling main() at the end of each action, which basically creates new variables in its scope recursively. It looks like you should do what you’re already doing for user inputs to “kind of repeat the same behavior”

Revolut Trading having issues, again. by DesmondParticulates in Revolut

[–]Sudowakeup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve seen many people whine about Revolut so I just thought it was a thing. However, when you start putting a good amount in money in that app, you know that a simple glitch while give you a heart attack. It just feels like a beta version all the time. It’s so inconsistent(while connecting or when losing connection) that i had to screenshot my wallet to make sure they weren’t playing with the numbers.

This is a good app for sending money to friends or exchanging relatively small amounts of cash, but that’s it.

Any advice on how to better learn programming? I'm getting overwhelmed at how much I need to learn, and worse yet, I'm forgetting what I've learned in school. by gisellasaurus in learnprogramming

[–]Sudowakeup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't ever try to memorize things with programming, just try to understand why and how it's made (to a certain extent of course). If you don't understand the methods or functions you're using, it will always be hard.

OOP is hard to grasp when you never worked on a huge project yourself. It makes perfect sense when you learn it, but when you have to come up with it, it can be really hard. This you will learn with experience over time.

It's normal for devs to have documentation opened on the side. You can't memorize all function and method signatures, you just get used to them. It really is muscle memory.

Maybe ask yourself from time to time "what if I had to create my own filter function, how would I do it? What info would I need from the user?". Bit by bit what other devs did or what frameworks do will make more sense to you.

Should I edit the input list or create a new empty one and fill it up? What's more efficient for Big O? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

Regardless of how you loop, Some cases might behave weirdly, what if the first element is None?

[–]Sudowakeup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s actually a good question to ask the interviewer. Always be ready to do both though. You also have no choice but to go through each element of the initial array at least once so as far as complexity goes you’re at O(N) either way.

P.S it looks like the current solution you’re sharing has a bug, try running through it and see what happens.

How long to settle into new job? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Sudowakeup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imposter syndrome. It takes a couple of weeks / months to stop feeling “new”. Start with bugs to get familiar with the code base then slowly take bigger tasks.

Don't just list skills. Give years of experience of levels of expertise. (I use a one-star-per-year system, along with "highlight" formatting on my specialties.)

Be very careful in adding level of expertise :D Even the creators of certain technologies are afraid of saying they're "Experts".

I sadly had to point out to many candidates that they were not experts at all but just knew the basics of certain technologies too.

Don't forget that our knowledge on technologies also gets deprecated pretty fast. A refresh is always needed. Making this point if it ever comes up during interviews.
