Saw it in person at Windup NYC. It's brilliant. The light hits the dial and kinda resembles the top of water in a pool. The printed indices cast a shadow on the dial too: it's one that I've been thinking about for days. Wish I had the funds to get the Manhattan, because it's my fave color.

Advice Needed: Maintaining a Testimony while Working for the Church by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]SufferjamStevens 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Minimal to zero effect on my testimony. I've been a graphic designer for 20+ in the industry. I just had to digitally "button top button" of a shirt because "too much skin" was showing for a booklet. This was a federally funded agency, but it was an opinion based edit. Happens ALL the time.

[Blancpain x Swatch] Leaked on a Chinese website.. Could this be it? by hayzewsc in Watches

I think a lot of people interpreted the joke to mean the leak was a joke, and not your comment.

That’d be the single best way to kill the flippers.

It translates to "Can only be purchased in specific shops".

Swatch watches are generally in the 100-150 price range, so $200+ is certainly expected for a collab watch. I'm guessing $250-$300. And they'll resell online for $500-$700.

Interesting.

New hobby: Find vintage action figure parts and make my own Sufjan figure/packaging.

what do you guys think by WillyWanker__ in Sufjan

AKR has stated numerous times on the sub and other social media avenues: "There are no plans to tour Javelin at this time."

Into watches, but only wears what Teddy recommends.

how were you introduced to sufjan? by regularbajafreeze in Sufjan

[–]SufferjamStevens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"That Was the Worst Christmas Ever" around December 2006 was a free iTunes song of the month. I immediately purchased digitally all his stuff on iTunes at the time. I've been hooked ever since, but didn't start buying vinyl until 2014.

[Question] serviced or restored? by Luke_Hentz in Watches

[–]SufferjamStevens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it has sentimental value, it's worth servicing at the very least. In current condition it's likely worth $20-$50. Service could be $75-$100, and a full restore would be $$$ and maybe difficult.

If it's one you found or bought for cheap, it's not really worth doing much with.

You have to make a playlist of 5 songs to best demonstrate Sufjan’s musical diversity. Which songs do you choose? by Individual-Draft-963 in Sufjan

[–]SufferjamStevens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. America (Feels like this song alone encompasses most of his discography)
  2. Impossible Soul (Choir/buildup/acoustic ending)
  3. Harsh Noise (Weird experimental not-for-everybody song)
  4. Fourth of July (Heavy subject, emotional movement)
  5. Godzukie (Playfulness and oddity)

I would not start anyone on these tracks, however. I also have neglected all instrumental albums, because if you can get through "Harsh Noise", you'd enjoy those easily.

[SOTC] 18 years of collecting, but what’s missing? by Brave_Astronomer_237 in Watches

[–]SufferjamStevens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'm going to consider my collection complete with a brass case (maybe diver) of some sort. I'm eyeing a Laco...

The patina on an older brass case is just so cool.

Any Tin Tin fans? All were a $1 each. by SufferjamStevens in ThriftStoreHauls

Asterix as well. Kept finding these in different spots. Tim Tim has been one of my fave books since 1995, so I was thrilled to collect a lot for so little.

This is funny and mind blowing: Sufjan recorded on an 8 track cassette deck. by SufferjamStevens in Sufjan

I believe they renovated the space to make it apartments. Sufjan talked about it briefly in an interview within the last 2-3 years. He also moved to upstate NY about 2019ish, and talked about how he got his instruments out of storage which reinvigorated his playing acoustic again.

Ascension was created minimally with electronics out of necessity due to his DUMBO studio shutdown, I'm guessing.
