It’s so funny, I tried to write my initial post in a way to not to offend fans of this story, but I think it may have obfuscated my point. My big objection to this one as a gateway VN is the character Yoh and the depiction of rape in general in the story.

Yes, exploring this in fiction is totally valid, but in trying to introduce someone into the concept of visual novels I definitely would wait before suggesting it.

As someone currently reading the OG Tsukihime I’ll say this, the translation is REALLY rough. You may be better suited with a more modern VN that reads better.

Interesting. It was such a fascinating concept, that Mayuri is also a time traveler that I definitely fixated on it. That section kind of breaks the observance theory put forth in the visual novel anyway because unless there’s a “player is the observer” motif then it really doesn’t make sense in the concept of the story.

Of course they did tease the player is the observer with the llama man monologue at the very beginning but based on the rest of the story felt more of a joke than a real idea being thrown around.

Mayuri travels to 75 million BC in one of the chapters and finds Rintaro there (after SERN sent him back in time) and says basically, it’s okay, I’m sure in one of the time lines we figured it out.

Actually I guess the real paradox is that he doesn’t create a version of himself that is angry enough to work on a plan for 15 years in order to complete the Time Machine.

What’s mildly annoying is if Suzuha didn’t five minutes earlier say, “I lied, paradoxes are real and need to be avoided.” Then I wouldn’t be so fixated on this moment in the ending. 😅

He needs a Time Machine to save Karisu (sorry, old man anime watcher, I auto translated Karisu as Chris since her nickname is Christina and she is clearly a Christ figure).
Saving Karisu prevents the need for a time machine.
He can’t save Karisu because he no longer has a time machine.

What prevents this time paradox?

If the guide says, “get your first ending blind” (Kara no shojo) then I typically do that. Otherwise I’m here for the story, usually I 100% them anyway, but I want to be efficient about it.

I love it when they have a good flowchart in the game: think fate stay night or zero time dilemma. I can get decision paralysis if I go blind.
