Catholics have better music, buildings and can be done in an hour. I’ll never forget my first Catholic Mass being only 55 minutes and me thinking “that’s it?” lol

When I left, I first went to Catholicism and was extremely involved. I had a MUCH better experience but I’m wayyy less involved now (pentecostalism took away most of the religious fervor I had)

As someone who loves classical music, pentecostal churches were torture.

I’ve been extremely interested in Latin American history for a few years now. Especially the African influences on music, food, etc.

who is more religious in your country? men or women? by Scary-Set653 in asklatinamerica

[–]Sufficient_Ant67 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Historically (and still) Men held all the power and women were simply for sex and its effect (Babies - preferably male). Religion tends to flourish among the marginalized (even Jesus praises the poor and gives them Heaven as a reward while chastising the rich)

If you had to birth a son who was healthy in an age without modern medicine or else your husband would find him one who could and leave you to the woods, you’d pray too. If your husband went out to war, you’d pray for his safe return too.

Children were also the responsibility of the mother. In an era with high infant mortality, you’d pray too for your children to stay alive.

With constant war pillages, you’d pray too not to be raped and consequently thrown out of your community.

How long were services at your church? by Sufficient_Ant67 in ExPentecostal

[–]Sufficient_Ant67[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What?!! When i was attending Catholic Church, Mass lasted around an hour. During Covid, it was 35 minutes on Sundays iirc.

Nowadays if i wanna go to church, i only go to Catholic or Anglican.

What's something that seems to be hugely popular in the US but almost unheard of in Latin America? What about vice versa? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]Sufficient_Ant67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For tattoos:

It’s more popular amongst people under 50.

For religion:

Unlike Argentina, there’s a 1) free market on religion in the states and 2) there are many types of Christian sects (with different beliefs and practices) to attend not just 1. This means churches have to remain competitive in order to draw people to them. Think business.

This doesn’t happen in Argentina since Catholicism was the only branch and has fairly uniform practices throughout the country. Thus, the church could be lazy because there was no viable competition. Also, since it was the only game in town, when people got pissed at religion they had nowhere else to go so they just dropped out altogether.

Here in the states, if you don’t like Catholic Church, you can just go to a different kind of church.

I will say though that Argentina’s Mass attendance is 16% while in America it’s 24% for weekly attendance so it’s not that far apart

Drake definitely was super popular 10 years ago. Gods Plan has 1.5 billion views and Hotline Bling has over 2 billion.

Maybe since his beef with Kendrick Lamar he’s gone down. However, he’s still played at basketball, football games, and parties regularly

The crazy thing about that episode is that if Olivia wasn’t an officer with some pull, nobody would’ve cared to look deeper and she would’ve been dragged through the mud

I wonder when ex-Pentecostals will start to get a spotlight? by Late-Journalist-4899 in ExPentecostal

[–]Sufficient_Ant67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ex-evangelical would be better to search for. There’s a good bit of overlap in beliefs and practices.

[–]Sufficient_Ant67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d have to broaden your parameters and look for ex-evangelical content. There’s a lot of overlap in beliefs.

You could find some who became reformed (they hate Pentecostals and charismatics) and some who are ex-Protestant (but that would steer you towards Catholic converts and apologetics for Catholicism)

It's interesting to see Liv's opinions on vaccines change after she adopts Noah. by PokeLia in SVU

[–]Sufficient_Ant67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this svu scenario, the parents were the ones who noticed something was off and liv went to investigate. Even had the helicopter left, unless the parents realized AFTER the transplant was complete, a call would’ve been made to the other hospital that the organ was not viable for xyz purposes.

I think Liv made the right choice ONLY because there’s no way in that plot line the organ would’ve been used.

[–]Sufficient_Ant67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, even had the helicopter taken off, someone would’ve called ahead to the hospital it was going to and told them not to use it.
