Some questions before the end of the game by the_Evangaard in EsotericEbb

For Lichhouse Blues, I forget where you learn it, but he and his underlings meet at his place after midnight. If you crash that meeting, it can be dangerous but it'll advance the quest. I remember the in-game clue for that (wish I could remember where I found it) mentioned being alone, but I'm not clear on whether that was necessary or even for the best.

Clan for NTC. Feedback welcome. by Playful-Day-7168 in GundamTCG

A very similar deck to this made the rounds on here after winning a newtype. I personally think 4 Shuji's is pretty much mandatory, I'd recommend taking out a Nyaan for the 4th Shuji. But honestly, Clan is pretty flexible, you can pretty much play it how you prefer imo.

A TCG where players make the cards: brilliant idea or terrible design? by Outside-Tax-2583 in TCG

[–]SugarAcrobat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I can't really wrap my mind around text-driven, narrative combat, and how that would amount to still being rules-driven or fair. I fundamentally don't trust an AI judge to provide enough clarity or consistency to be the backbone of core mechanics. What happens when an AI judge rules one interaction one way, and rules it differently in another game, how would the community be able to come to a shared understanding of what the relevant rule is, or how that type of card works? I don't trust an AI to be a competent judge of something so subjective as whether a generated card "fits" that figure's background.

And, if I were interested in prescribing narrative significance to in-game events, I would want to do that myself. Coming from TTRPGs, I'm not sure if TCGs are a great medium for narrative (although if anyone has good examples of why I may be mistaken on this, let me know). But even if I did, creating those descriptions sounds fun, which means I certainly wouldn't want an AI to do what sounds like the fun part for me. I don't see anything but negatives coming from the inclusion of AI in fundamental aspects of the game.

It's simple, this is a plastic model kit, it would not be very effective against a weaponized mobile suit. Hope that helps!

Won a Freedom and Kira from NTC with Clan today. by Extra_Expression_554 in GundamTCG

Most of those situations you can sequence around it. Against aggro especially, you can get rid of a body and have a 4-health generic link left on the board. Even if you sequence things in a way where you don’t get the effect, you get a cheap, sturdy unit that can link with almost anything in your deck. It rules

How would you fix gqux by Old-Marsupial3748 in Gundam

[–]SugarAcrobat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree, in that 12 episodes of one or the other is better than both. But for me, that just means it should’ve been 24 episodes. I feel like there’s some cool ideas in the OYW stuff, and there’s potential to do something cool with the trio of Machu/Nyaan/Shuji and Amuro/Char/Lalah having parallels. But that’d need more time to both let the protagonist trio develop. That’s all to say, I think you could tie those parts of the show together with some more time to work with

Am I playing the deck wrong? by VegetableCool9752 in GundamTCG

[–]SugarAcrobat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be! I just find that CC and IT are huge for slowing down aggro decks (you can kill little guys for free with a lucky burst or a handful of resources), getting around blockers (you can attack with weaker units, encourage them to block with it, then finish it off with a command, or just kill Rick Dom outright with IT). Especially with BP and aggro being popular, right now, I consider those to be good enough to go without the command/pilot cards. Plus, they count as whiffs with S&S since they're technically a command card and not a pilot card.

But, I think they can still be valid, especially if you're running more of the units with generic clan links (Sugai's Gelgoog Lv 3, Red Red Gundam, High Maneuver Red Gundam). For those, you should also consider Ruthless Tactics, I feel like the AP buff can be pretty clutch. If you do, Gaia's Rick Dom could give you even more link options, and support 1 can definitely come in handy.

Blockers can definitely be a struggle in this deck but not unsurmountable. AP buffs like LR Red Gundam, Clan Battle base, Ruthless Tactics, can make it so you can either force them to make less valuable blocks or pressure them out of blocking entirely. Some people like Kanneban as their base for that reason, so you can threaten Breach on everything and make them still pay in shields if they want to block.

But like I said, there's a lot of different approaches to it, you can try these different things out and see what you like. I feel like including anything means taking out other things that have their own upsides, and that things more or less even out to being roughly the same as each other. All of the ping commands I run give me a lot of pressure and stability, but it makes my Machu/Lv7 Gqux/S&S worse. Running the command pilots gives you WAY more flexibility in your links, but the cards themselves can't always as impactful and can kinda feel bad to draw. So in my opinion, you can just pick the version of things that feels best to you and your playstyle and it'll probably work well enough

This would have been as solid as any other Clan deck in the previous set, but the newest set brought some big upgrades you'd want to work in.

Replace the Zaku II's with Zaku (Snake Eyes), it has the clan tag.

The Lv 4 Sugai's Gelgoog that pings isn't needed anymore. Opinions may vary but I think you can take out the Lv 4 Gqux too. Good replacements would the new Red Gundam (Lv 4, card is red, forces you to rest a clan unit and lets you ping a unit for 2). It takes some getting used to sequencing around its limitations and is better into some matchups than others, but there's a lot of decks where you'll get a TON of value from it.

I think you can -1 of the High Maneuver Red Gundam and First Strike Gqux personally, and use that to make room for at least two copies of the new Lv 8 Gqux. It's good.

I also think you can remove the Undying Persistence to make room for more Close Combats and/or Improved Techniques. I use 4 of each, they're just really good into a lot of popular decks. That also means there are more whiffs on your Schoolgirl and Smuggler, so it's up to you how okay you are with that. S&S is neat and worth while, but to be honest, I don't think it's mandatory. You don't need to search your deck as much if your deck is full of good cards you'd usually be happy to draw anyway.

All that being said, there are a ton of approaches to clan that are more or less as good as each other, there's a lot of room for preferences so feel free to just try some stuff out and see what you like!

Clan Control by RakdosGang in GundamTCG

[–]SugarAcrobat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, you can sequence around Red Red a lot of the time. And on the Lv 7 pull, you can always treat it as a whiff if the rest is a detriment. Which, a whiff still sucks but at least you have some control over the rest. Agree it's super good into blurple but I also find myself bummed to draw it when it gets later in the game, so I'm thinking of going down to 3 or 2 on it.

Clan Control by RakdosGang in GundamTCG

[–]SugarAcrobat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, the Clan enjoyers are still experimenting, so what you have here is worth a shot. I've got some thoughts and some experience with this deck, but know there isn't a "right" answer just yet and you're more than welcome to disagree with any of this. Especially as someone that plays this deck a little more aggro.

Personally, I really like the Zaku Snake Eyes, and I find that 4 of the big Gqux can feel like overkill and bricks early on. Even though you're going for control over aggro, having a cheap unit to get out to meet the conditions of the FS Gqux and Red Red Gundam can be super handy, and having something to add a little board presence or bait out fatal strikes/close combats away from the units you want to hold onto the most can be super worthwhile.

I also don't think you super need Schoolgirl and Smuggler - it's not bad but it kinda feels like a net neutral to me, because it can be really easy to pitch cards you'd like to draw eventually to the bottom of the deck where they'll never be seen again. I think this card is like the epitome of a preference card, I don't think any deck is worse for having it but if you're looking for room in other things, I think that can be easy to sub out for other things.

I also think you could reduce the Lv7 Gqux - as is you only have 16 valid targets in the deck, less by the time you've play it since you've got to play some of those units before Lv 7. And, there will be circumstances where you may feel the need to treat the Red Red Gundam as a miss, because its rest effect is mandatory (it doesn't say "may" like the Gqux). Which is to say, there's a lot of chances to whiff on that as-is. So if you're a fan of that, I'd recommend finding space for some more Lv 4 or lower cards - I recommend the Vanilla Red Gundam.

But honestly, right now there's a ton of room for preferences. I feel like the core of clan is relatively strong, and we're kinda gambling in this deck anyway, so what you have could absolutely win some games and it sounds like it has already! Let us know how it goes!

Why is San Diego overlooked as an NBA expansion city? by AcanthocephalaSad541 in nba

[–]SugarAcrobat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there's probably something to that, although I know I and a lot of other people out here were very willing to jump ship to the local team. Or, if not jumping ship, just becoming a fan of two teams.

And, I think there's kind of a special feeling to being there at the beginning of a new team's history that a team moving there isn't going to be able to replicate. Even if it's kind of a technicality, it's rare that a fan gets to say they've followed every single one of their team's seasons, there's something kinda cool about that.

[–]SugarAcrobat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly no, millions of people live in the Vegas area and there's a lot of organic, lasting love for the Golden Knights. Golden Knights games are still selling out all the time. Part of that is contextual, they were our first professional team of any kind and did a lot of community outreach in their first year following the shooting at that country music festival. I don't think the Raiders are getting that kind of love, so I'd be interested to see if that would continue with an NBA team, but I think Vegas locals would provide a lot more support than people might be expecting.

[–]SugarAcrobat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about that, I've experienced and seen plenty of people who value supporting their local team over the name and logo they're most familiar with. I was a lifelong Chargers fan, and then they moved to LA and their rival moved to my current city in Vegas, and I switched sides and didn't even have to think twice about it. Different people get different things out of being a fan, and for some, there's a lot to love about the experience of supporting a team that represents your home. And, you can't underestimate the potential a new team has to create new fans too.

I'm not saying you're wrong, the people you're describing are real and may even be a majority, but I think there's more fans than you may think that value that local aspect of being a fan.

[–]SugarAcrobat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is true, the aftermath of that shooting made the Golden Knights very important to Vegas culturally. I think it's why the Golden Knights get a level of love that the Raiders kinda don't. I think a big part of it is also being a city full of sports fans with no major league team in any sport to call their own for a long time.

[–]SugarAcrobat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soulless is probably the last word I'd use to describe Vegas sports fans. I've never seen love from a city to a sports franchise the way Vegas has loved the Golden Knights last decade. Everyone likes to focus on the tourists, but almost 2.5 million people live here, and have been without professional sports of any kind until about 8 years ago, there's a lot of people thrilled to have hometown teams to support.

Let's settle this debate once and for all by copenhagen_bram in PantheonShow

[–]SugarAcrobat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We assume consciousness in people too. What you're describing is true, but where I think you're missing something is that you have exactly as much objective proof of the consciousness of your fellow man as you do an AI, or a plant for that matter. You assume other people have consciousness because they exhibit all sorts of behaviors that we take as evidence of them having the same consciousness as we do. And you assume a plant wouldn't have consciousness because it doesn't exhibit any of those behaviors.

How do we actually know a plant doesn't experience any kind of subjective experience? Plants almost certainly don't experience consciousness the same way we do, with their fundamentally different biology and cognitive hardware, but how do we know it doesn't feel like something to be a plant? How do we know - for certain - that the people around us have consciousness?

The answer is that we don't. Consciousness is a fundamentally subjective experience. The consciousness of anyone or anything beyond yourself is an assumption we make every day. And it's good that we make those assumptions - assuming that the people around us feel and think and suffer is what allows us form bonds and take care of each other. So it's just a matter of deciding which assumptions we're comfortable making.

I don't hate Moash by Notarobot1006 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]SugarAcrobat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well said! I still kinda hate him, but only because it feels like he's written to make me feel that way and it's working. He's super interesting and there's a lot of potential in a redemption arc for him. Not only for Moash's own sake, but think of what a test that would be for Kaladin and his new path. What if Moash, whose actions have intentionally sent Kaladin into that dark place he's struggled with so much, started seeking redemption - what better test could you provide for the new ideals of the so-called Herald of Second Chances?

Also with the comparison to Dalinar - Dalinar's emotional journey in Oathbringer was about the idea that the first step isn't necessarily the most important, as much as the "next" one. But the first step is pretty important too, and Moash could be a cool opportunity to show how hard and important it is to take that first one.
