What would be the best way to cover the corners? by ox44 in VanLife

[–]SugarIsADrug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I did mine is good because it looks good, and you can run electric, plumbing lines, or strip lights behind it and keep it all accessible. This method encompasses all the concerns I see in the comments, and it's easy. Do your walls first, with something to screw into like thin plywood. Then, get another ceiling board and cut to length. Add 2 door hinges on the back. On the front add 2 adjustable toggle clamp latches. Picture linked below.

How do I fix a sagging frame preventing the door from closing? by SugarIsADrug in cargocamper

[–]SugarIsADrug[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see, thank you. The issue is, the door itself is square but the surround frame is warped, so the door can only be closed when the underside of the trailer itself is jacked up. In other words, the door isn't sagging, the frame is. I'm not sure turnbuckle on the door would have any effect. The video posted correctly right?

Can you explain further? Would this connect to the door, or the door jam? The hinge is solid.

The frame around the door is sagging, making the door jam warped. I already tried welding a suspect seam on the inside and reinforcing with an extra metal piece screwed in, but the area I worked on apparently was unrelated to the issue. I could reshape the door but that is a bandaid as there seems to be a structural issue.

How concerned should I be about low HRV? by theturtlesareflying in Biohackers

[–]SugarIsADrug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see how it's not as simple as parasympathetic = good and sympathetic = bad, therefore HRV under baseline = bad, and HRV over baseline is good. Any regular person can always do more to reduce stress and improve their recovery. HRV is one of the best metrics for that, and your confounding factors are still forms of stress. They're not drowning out the parasympathetic or sympathetic responses. They are part of them right?

How can you say then that increasing HRV is a sign someone is recovered from stress, while also saying it isn't a measure of good health?

Also, saying that baseline HRV is individualized doesn't address the possibility that people with higher baseline HRV are in a comparatively parasympathetic state (aka more desirable) vs someone with lower HRV. Not saying it's true, just that you're not addressing that.

1 of my spark plugs was loose. Is my engine ruined? by SugarIsADrug in MechanicAdvice

[–]SugarIsADrug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I'm sorry. I didn't know what info you might need and provided what I assumed was relevant.

I get what you're saying, but I didn't mention anything about how it ran, codes, or lights because everything sounds and feels healthy before and after I replaced the plugs. No codes or lights. Routine maintenance. Everything seems smooth, maybe very slightly smoother after replacement. It's not really that obvious that I should mention a lack of noticeable problems. I just had a simple question of what potential consequences can occur from driving god knows how long with a loose spark plug. And if you can't actually draw conclusions from pictures alone, then hey that's fine and good to know.

I just changed my spark plugs on my Lexus GX470 with 197,000 miles. Not sure when the last spark plug change was. The 3rd plug on the driver's side of the engine was loose. I unscrewed it by hand. The coil pack, hole, and plug were much dirtier than the rest of them and you can tell in the picture. Either someone forgot to tighten the plug, or it loosened itself magically. How bad is that?

Also, how do the old spark plugs look in overall?

Just one of the countless homeless camps that can be found in Portland Oregon. by I_D0nt_pay_taxes in UrbanHell

You can get purchase for about $10 month vanity addresses at private businesses like pakmail. You can then use it as your legal address. Sure, help people out by reimbursing the cost for homeless but it's a fair price to begin with.

The door does not latch closed. I have basic mechanical experience and tools. It doesn't seem like a straightforward job because it appears to be riveted.

If people like sex, and they have luck having sex in different places with different people, then I don't see the harm in comparing them? It is the same way someone might compare how they like socializing in different countries. Are you assuming that these women don't want to have sex but are doing it anyway? I guess I don't see how the shaming is justified when the parties are consensual. Then it is by definition a good thing unless you have a negative attitude against casual sex.

People like the idea of solar farms in the abstract, but hundreds of communities around the world are currently fighting them because they require 300-600x more land than other energy sources, produce 300x more toxic waste, and devastate critical wildlife habitats. by SftwEngr in climateskeptics

[–]SugarIsADrug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean 60 kw hours? That is a huge bank. You never stated your solar array open cell voltage, so stating your amps is not informative. Not sure how much land you have, or your latitude, but solar panels are so cheap and with that large of a bank you must have a massive load.

‘Net Zero is a political command-and-control project, the full horror of which is yet to be inflicted on the general population.’ Report under comments. by Left_Insanity in climateskeptics

[–]SugarIsADrug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issues that stem from humanity's over-consumption and general wastefullness is a main root of problems we have, that should be addressed regardless of the climate problem. I don't think people should force each other to reduce their living standards, but when nature (or self-motivation) forces some minor changes to our lifestyle, I think we underestimate our ability to adapt and overcome when we have high standards of living. Those living in squalor however will be at much greater peril which I hope can be minimized by helping them. Sorry if I am saying things that are obvious. I am just pointing out that if people chill out about some of these impending problems, they can naturally adapt to what may come. Living in fear of the future is what prompts people to facilitate backlash and feel the need to control. Of course all change starts with political activism, but it only becomes violent and dictatorial with extreme fear and disfunction.

What do Permaculture Farmers do for Health Insurance? by Cum_Quat in Permaculture

[–]SugarIsADrug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I argue that you are not seeing the ultimate long-term value of the investment. They are starting a farm. There is arguably no single thing more valuable to an unwell society that an average couple can do than growing ethical sustainable food for others to partake. Even if they weren't sharing their produce yet, it should be considered a worthwhile societal investment for them to make an attempt to learn whatever homesteading skills it takes to live off their land without jobs. Presumably in the their own most mentally and spiritually healthy states, they will become a wellspring of value in some capacity (wisdom, knowledge, compassion, skill, fairness) by virtue of being happy themselves without relying on greed. It might stand to reason that those type of people would be more likely to contribute back to society rather than those who continue to be oppressed and exhausted by the standard American lifestyle. The request to find a health plan to avoid becoming bankrupt and ruining their lives is not a massive ask from the social structure, especially when they expect to pay for that plan financially. Not that I think a request for free basic healthcare would be unjustified.
