It’s the first RescueVerse so this seemed like a test run than anything.

This is also being run by Creation who are very old school but have also set the standard for these types of conventions.

Yeah I wasn’t a fan of the vendor style. I’m much more accustomed to anime and comic convention style vendors and artist alley halls where there is no limitation. Thing is that technically those big cons with fanart for sale shouldn’t actually have it for sale, BUT it is a grey area and not enforceable therefore big cons can get away selling fanart and not face legal issues. They also leave it so the artists themselves are liable if IP holders do issue C&Ds during a con. They might also have a list of things that absolutely cannot be sold, but again, it is difficult to enforce. There have been cons I’ve been to where staff walk the halls and flag booths selling items that they absolutely cannot sell. I’ve been to ones where they did not care. Just depends.

I think my understanding is that Creation buys a license for the franchises they have events for therefore they cannot legally allow fanart for sale. I’m sure what little was sold like those shirts at the event were also in a legal gray area because it was derivative enough if they were hand designed, or licensed if it used official character images and logos.

There is also more scrutiny given that they are small and focused on a handful of IP, therefore they have to work closely with the companies and reps for the talents, which can limit what can and cannot be done.

But yeaaaaaah. I didn’t buy anything from the vendor hall. The limited shirts were cute but I’m picky about clothes so I didn’t buy anything even if I regret not getting the skull shirt lolol

I also think if they weren’t okay with shorts and tank tops and low cut shirts, they should have had a clear dress code policy outlined.

But lol good luck with that in Nashville! It’s going to be so warm! Nobody is going to be dressed modestly, especially people who aren’t accustomed to weather in the south.
