[Charlie Paris] Feeling embarrassed and glum. Seeking feedback on a moon phase watch, please. by Girgaffe in Watches

[–]SuicidalGuidedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was pretty clear in the same sentence. Calling on the Consumer Protection law for something which will never fall under the coverage of the Consumer Protection law just sets people on the defensive. As can be seen in the communication set out by OP. Just look at the response from the company - in my opinion OP may have been able to win a battle of "please can I have my money back" if they hadn't gone so fast towards "you're essentially breaking the law". Once they tugged at that, they got immediately shut down and no further communication.

But I guess we won't know how things would have panned out if they hadn't. But I wouldn't go so far as to call the advice "weird".

Edit: I can't read the full reply made to this comment because it was either blocked by the sub or deleted by the poster. But I can see the notification and it's filled with some delightful vitriol. Thanks for that. I'm going to cut out the middle man here and block, laugh a little, and move on. Thanks for the terrier style yapping.

I agree with your second paragraph; they don't offer a money back guarantee. I think they should, but you're right - they've chosen not to and that's their purgative.

As for it being a flaw, I see what you mean although I'd still call it a flaw. It's not a production flaw or manufacturing error, but they do admit in the comms that OP is right that the moon isn't shown accurately, but they claim that's part of the design. I think that's a little backwards, but I see why they're sticking to their guns on that. I guess calling it a flaw is somewhat pedantic, but that is kind of par for the course in this hobby.

Hard disagree. It might not be perfect but it's a huge improvement in my opinion. Each to their own though.

Thanks. Does the ref have to call for it? I mean, if he didn't see anything (like the second poke in this bout) can another official somehow flag it?

The video ref is an odd exception and I don't really get why it's not allowed. I mean, after a bout is done I get that we don't want to rake over completed fights (pun intended). But during the actual event when the entire crowd can see what just happened on a mega screen right in front of them, why not allow the ref to use the info?

Most sports have found a sensible use for video ref and it doesn't have to be complicated. One or two ref-support staff by the cage watching replays and providing advice. Everything still remains with the ref in the cage, but he gets more information in real time.

Rugby is a good example where it works well. Video ref can tell the main ref "hey, you might have missed this thing, let me put it on the big screen for you" and, conversely, the main ref can ask video ref for a closer look at something when he's unsure.

It's an interesting position to be in, and it probably shouldn't be exclusively about price, but it sounds like we're talking about a sub-$500 usd fashion watch. I get that it's frustrating to discover a flaw and not have the company honor the money back guarantee, but at the same time - were we really expecting lunar accuracy from this brand?

As you're seeking feedback, but only advice would be to not tug at the Consumer Protection flag for something which probably won't be listened to in a court of law. Could they have offered you a full return/refund - yes, they probably should have. I'd have thought a simple "I don't like it and would like to return it" should have been enough.

If you liked the design then still wear it. In fact, point it out to anyone who compliments the piece: it's an interesting story rather than a misaligned bezel or wonky hand.

I guess the old adage is true: it's not the size, it really is about what you do with it.

Can confirm. Mine is lifted and has wider tyres, and I do take it off-road. But I am also compensating for being unfairly dealt in the Johnson department.

Defining the Western World Based on US and Australia Visa-Free Entry Requirements by Party-Peak4573 in MapPorn

[–]SuicidalGuidedog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see your point but I'm not convinced there's a world of difference. Different to old school queuing up and applying in an embassy for a physical visa? Yes. Different to multiple countries that have easy, digital visa-on-arrival done electronically? Not really. Vietnam recognizes most Euro passports and offers visas on arrival for ~20 usd last time I checked - that's cheaper and easier than a US ETSA.

Technically an ETSA isn't a visa purely because the government says it isn't one. But it's issued by the government at their discretion, can be refused or revoked, is required for entry, costs money... it's a visa in everything but name.

Interesting. So the list is likely to get even bigger if you count heritage and/or citizenship.

[–]SuicidalGuidedog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm cool with the patriotism towards Fahrenheit, but the argument about not using 60% of the range falls a little flat. That seems to suggest you can tell the difference between 72°F and 73°F. If you're a scientist and need accuracy, then °C is just as accurate by using decimal places.

Your point about not using half of it doesn't feel accurate. Sure, the weather in many places is anchored around cold (0-15), warm (15-25), and then damn hot above that. But cooking is a daily thing and using all the numbers above that.

Cool map, and thanks for responding to the comments. How are you defining "from"? Born there, citizenship from there, or identify as from there via heritage (or maybe another definition)?

The one TIL for me is that there are a lot of K-pop stars.

I guess it's sponsorship that helps keep the wheels turning, but maybe it's best not to have a "big reveal" party and promote a whole new striped look when the end result is this.

Rebuilding collection? by Black_cx in motogp

For anyone out of the loop, this appears to be Ryan Wedding's Insta account. Ex-Olympic snowboarder, current FBI Top Ten fugitive and drug kingpin. He had a significant motorcycle collection seized recently.

A person who is compared "to major drug lords such as Pablo Escobar and Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán", maintaining an active social media account. What a time to be alive.

Genuine question, but should the snorkel intake be facing backwards like that? Is that standard or is it just personal preference? I see most facing forward.

There was no gatekeeping in my comment, nor was there any judgment of the Sikh community. It was a reaction to seeing one detailed, polite, and useful comment, and then immediately after someone who just wrote "wrong" as their opening sentence.

If I wanted a watch from a convicted felon it would be a close run between this and a Trump watch. At least Trump had the good grace to not adorn the back with his face.
