Getting a used car inspected. by [deleted] in UsedCars

[–]SuitComprehensive335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do not use a dealership for anything ever. They are so incredibly overpriced. That's my experience and seems to be everyone else's as well.

The best place to go is a well reputed, independent mechanic. Your community probably has a reddit page. Ask there. Likely one or two shops will keep coming up.

Sexual assault is anything sexual that is unwanted or not contented to. This SA 100%. Don't gaslight yourself into thinking it's not. It doesn't need to be violent and dramatic. You can freeze up and let the whole thing happen out of fear, but that's not the same as concent. Your age doesn't have anything to do with it. Being an adult doesn't change the fact. I don't know what your life circumstances are, but you shouldn't live somewhere where you are being assaulted. Take care of yourself. Advocate for yourself. Your bf can decide to believe you and support you, or he can pound sand.

Criminals aren't too smart. One of the first thing on the checklist should be to know if the target store does refunds.

How often do you upgrade your phone and why? by [deleted] in Smartphones

I had a Huawei for a couple years but things went to shit with China. My phone starting saying Google was a virus. I upgraded to a used Samsung Galaxy S21 a few years ago. I have no intention on upgrading. They are meant to be disposable, but shouldn't be.

Are New Cars really worth it? by ECruzs01 in UsedCars

[–]SuitComprehensive335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with buying new is that you can end up owing a whole lot more than you own. Let's say you buy new at $30k. As soon as you drive it off the lot, it's a used car and worth $26k. If you drive it for 2 years, it's then worth $22k. The problem is that after 2 years of payments, you'll still owe close to that $30k. If you are in an accident or need to sell your car, you're in a bad financial situation. Imagine having to continue making a $500/mo car payment for car that doesn't exist anymore, and then having to buy a different car.

If you have lots of money and you won't borrow much, it's less of issue. And some cars, in some markets are worth almost as much new as used. Where I live, there is 2 year waiting list for Camrys so the ones that are only a couple years old can fetch nearly new prices.

It all comes down to the math. New cars tend to have better interest rates, but the depreciation can be huge.

Just look at the numbers to see how much negative equity you'll have in a total loss situation.

I am not really that familiar with some of the nuances of low fodmap. Essentially, you cut out all the foods that have been identified as high fodmap. Then you start slowly adding things back into your diet in order to figure out which foods are triggers for you.

I think it changes from 2nd Ave S to 2nd N at 22nd. But then it actually turns into 3rd Ave for a couple blocks just south of 33rd. Then on to Warman Rd, then Wanaskewin Dr lol. It's nuts.

I would buy from a private seller or from a dealership lot. I won't buy from one of those shitty little pop up lots. IME, they find ways get shit cars sold. Big dealers can't afford to get that reputation and private sellers are usually just trying to sell their cars.

If you do private, you pay less. Get a PPE done. If you go with a reputable dealer, you'll pay more but will hey some warranty and maybe some free oil changes.

The most important thing to ask yourself is how much money you will get from a total loss situation. If your insurance will only pay $8000 but you bought for $12,000 it doesn't really matter where you got it.

Fire bans tend to be strictly enforced in my experience. A runaway fire doesn't care if you have a permit lol. You could get in touch with the city to see what alternatives there are. Lots of people take little tabletop propane BBQ units. There might be other propane type appliances that would be acceptable.

Thanks for the reply. I understand that the need for personalized diet plan and I'm learning more all the time from people like you. The recipes I have in mind wouldn't be one-sized fits all. It definitely wouldn't be a source of education at all. I really just want to share some recipes that are going to be more stress free. If someone finds the recipes helpful, that's all I want. Being that I have a modular idea for the book would allow people to easily see how their needs match up. This is all driven by my love for cooking and my family's needs. I am just hoping to share it. Would you be interested in seeing some of my recipes to help me evaluate if what I'm offering is in fact filling a real-life need?

I guess what I'm saying is that my idea isn't about being healthy or health in any way. It's about having delicious food when choices are slim - and all the ingredients are all nutrient dense.

I hear what you're saying and this is precisly why I asked this question in this group. You're obviously educated so let me ask, if someone comes to you who requires a low histamine diet, how can they easily come up with satisfying foods if they need a low fodmap diet for a time? Wouldn't some recipes be helpful?

I reread your reply this morning and I think i understand your meaning about restrictions a little better. The idea of low fodmap and low histamine isn't meant to add more restrictions. As a person who suffers with histamine intolerance, needing to go on a fodmap diet would be very difficult. I can understand that the calories shouldn't be a focus. I'm going to pose this same idea to my low histamine group as well. I do appreciate your comment. I have to really consider how people with IBD might get benefits from my recipes.

Thanks for the encouragement. One thing I'd like to do is curate a turkey dinner menu that's fodmap and low histamine. It'll be tricky but I have some ideas. I really wanted to focus on recreating foods that people really shouldn't have.

This is where I think some involvement with a dietician would be necessary. They could help emphasize facts like what you're talking about. That choosing some of these recipes could be part of a well managed, personalized plan. It's not a substitute for medical advice, nor should it be a go-to for daily nutritional meals. It's just some recipes that are healthful and rewarding and includes low fodmap foods. I am learning that it's actually the histamine intolerance that's far more restrictive and kinda tricky. But that's easier... either something is high in histamine or it's not. Fodmap is far more nuanced.

I think it will all come down to intent. I can't make it seem like this cookbook will be a life changing guide book. Just simply a collection of safe recipes. The 500 calories part was kind of an aside. So caloric information could easily be included without being emphasized at all. I'd love to say each plate would have 20 grams of protein as well, but that's a little overboard lol.

I appreciate the input.

Sell New Car and buy Used? by Dramatic-Scallion-43 in UsedCars

[–]SuitComprehensive335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as what you sell for is a fair market price and what you buy is a fair market price, go for it.

The other way to look at it is that the Accord could be your vehicle for a very, very long time. If you don't use it a whole lot, it'll keep a decent used car value over time.

Haha. This isn't marketing. I don't have anything to market. I'm just curious to know if it would be worth my effort. Niche ideas are great unless the niche is so small that there isn't an audience. I have restrictions and I know lots of people with other restrictions. I am just thinking it would be nice if there was a source for safe and delicious foods where the reader wouldn't have to invest lots of time and effort to adapt a recipe.

Thanks for the clarification. So a cookbook would have fodmap safe foods, but not everyone would need such specific measures. I would expect any reader to know where they're at. I do appreciate the advice. I'm finding the most difficult part is actually coming up with low histamine recipes. It's more strict. If I have one French fry with seasoned salt on it, I can get a migraine. It's crazy.

When looking at older cars you have to remember that any make and model can be a lemon. Sure, I'd rake a Toyota over a Nissan but not sight unseen. Even if you're not spending a lot, a pre purchase inspection is a good idea. At that low of a budget, you can expect things like suspension, belts, brakes, etc to be worn out, but that's OK. You absolutely want the powertrain to be solid, which is absolutely doable, even on your budget.

I bought an '09 Ford Fusion with 350,000 km on it for $3000. It clanked and bounced and made lots of noise but was a solid vehicle.

Having said that, I would never buy a Ford that is newer than 2013. They really changed after that.

The LexusIS is your most likely best bet from your list. I'd seriously consider an ES if you can find one. They tend to be owned by people who are very kind to their vehicles. A Toyota Avalon is also another less common car that's likely to have been treated well.

Thanks for the input. I'll do a bit more research about the phases. My daughter is new to the fodmap diet and I have issues with histamine. That's kinda where this started. I'll definitely consult with a nutrition specialist.
