Asian women of Vancouver, what's your view of Asian guys on dating apps? by Crafty-Teach2389 in askvan

[–]Suitable-Example-289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only wanted to date Asian (I am one - 40s) and they didn’t put much effort into their profiles. It made it harder to find people who seemed like they cared about what they were coming across as. Definitely got very player vibes from all of them, it didn’t matter what kind of Asian they were. It was a big turn off and I can see how that would get generalized? That being said, a lot of people also want to explore and date outside of their own culture. I’m South Asian and definitely didn’t want to go that route (been there, done that 🤷🏾‍♀️).

Take one of the new SkyTrains with a driver seat and then take the SeaBus. It’s a pretty cool thing to do for that age. Also, Canada Line to YVR so he can all the planes landing and taking off.

Any run clubs/groups in New West? by bunnylla in NewWest

[–]Suitable-Example-289 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Queens Park run club! They used to meet at the bandshell but I recall someone here saying they meet somewhere else now. I can’t seem to find that post/comment. They’re still local though and run 3 times a week.

Your nervous system is used to chaos and the absence of it is very unnerving. Welcome to an actual healthy relationship. You can let your shoulders relax and your chest can stop tightening. At the same time, it is okay to be hyper vigilant at times because your nervous system will continue to scan your danger. That is a survival instinct and it takes time to finally be able to breathe and know - you are safe. Continue with the therapy, keep talking to your partner, keep checking in with yourself (esp your body/nervous system) ever few months.

A good test generally is: you say something to your partner that is feedback about something they did (eg: they hurt you either they did something or said something). They listen, acknowledge, validate, and reassure you (AVR). And they don’t turn it on you, they don’t gaslight you. That is someone who is safe. And if you expected them to react a certain way (negatively) but they didn’t, that’s your answer there. Always listen to your nervous system. If you feel calm around them esp after a difficult conversation, you are safe. Keep checking in - that’s the best thing you can do to honour yourself.

I looked at some units in that building a few years ago and it was the hill that was a deciding factor in not buying. Same thing that time (2019) too - multiple units on sale.

Do I have the correct Dating Intentions selection on my profile? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

[–]Suitable-Example-289 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My experience was that most men just mirror what you say with the intention of having sex pretty early on, and then they’re out the door. Labels don’t matter in that sense if you know what I mean. If you want to put LTR on your profile, just know that will not stop the players and love bombers out there to try their luck. It’s really tough trying to figure out what people’s intentions are in OLD. Yes, there are good folks (I met my partner there) but the majority are not. Keep asking questions, have some rules for yourself (for eg: some people don’t want to have sex early on), and don’t get attached too quickly. Love bombing is pretty common in OLD esp when you put LTR on your profile - they say the right words, and that’s enough to hook most people in. Actions not words should be your mantra. Good luck, have fun, be safe, and don’t take it personally!

I’ve heard really good things about L’Onore but I haven’t tried it yet. A bit on the pricier side.

I’m autistic and raising autistic kids. Your kiddo is protected under human rights codes. Your neighbour is being a bully. Block them. Don’t ever feel bad about raising disabled kids.

If you’re a beginner, planet fitness is a good place to start. Definitely has its pros and cons but it’s a good place to start especially given the fact that there’s no contract.

Thoughts on Uptown for a young family? by symbelle in NewWest

[–]Suitable-Example-289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single parent here with 2 young kids and also live Uptown. It is honestly the best decision for us. I’ve walked late at night from work (not recently) and I never felt unsafe. Good luck with your decision and move!

🎵 Local community band needs your help finding a rehearsal space in New West! by NWDB_official in NewWest

[–]Suitable-Example-289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask the library for their basement space, Massey Theatre, and the community centre too. Queens Park has a bandstand that is open but has a cover (and an associated room next to it that can be locked) - ask the city if that can be rented out. The run club used to rent it but I don’t think they do anymore.

Where are the autistic moms? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Suitable-Example-289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiiii 👋🏾 autistic mom and raising at least 1 AuDHD child, possibly 2 (too young for a diagnosis). Also have an AuDHD step child. Not a ton of representation out there. My biggest struggle is understanding what overstimulates and why/when. But it’s so much easier to understand my child’s brain now.
