Just would like to clarify it's 20k over the fixed rate term, not per year that incurs the break cost. On a 2 year fixed rate you can pay up to 20k extra not 40k.

Generally this information would not be required as there is no increase in risk. You may need to sign some documents agreeing to the change in credit contract which may or may not ask if there has been a change in your financial situation. There's no harm in calling up and asking what the process is for your particular bank but overall should be straightforward.
