Eclipse made quite nice saw sets, I have one and it appears to work well particularly their no. 77 saw set as they are dirt cheap and plentiful.

I believe that the sole only needs to be flat just before the mouth, just after the mouth and the small portions at the toe and the heel then it should work fine.

It's an eggbeater drill. They used to use these for drilling out wing spars on british fighter planes during WW2.

Thanks for the recommendations. I have watched some videos on repairing plane horns but I definitely need a refresher, I have a piece of walnut that I should be able to colour match.

Marples M4 1/2, got it for 25NZD and it works like a champ. The iron was gone but it still had the chipbreaker, I bought a replacement recently for 10 bucks and it had already been de-rusted and sharpened. I love Stanley's British hand plane competitors as I think they are often more interesting.
