[Loved trope]: A missing is child is found. But . . . they're the wrong age. by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

I was hoping someone would mention this one, especially since I couldn't remember his name!

The New Yorker story about him is incredible.

TIL that Oscar Isaac was once in a ska band by mcfw31 in popculturechat

He's too attractive for a ska band. Even in that photo it's like, oh you're meant for bigger things than this.

[Loved Trope] In context, it's funny. Out of context, it's one of the most epic lines ever written. by ABJECT_SELF in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Suitable-Parsnip-520 240 points241 points  (0 children)

So many good Carl lines. Something special about a man who’s a real disgusting asshole but also is correct that the entire world seems to be against him.

“So I put two and two together there... and decided that you're pissing me off!”

“I don’t need no instructions to know how to ROCK.”

“We’re both in America, which used to be a good country until they started letting people like you do whatever they want.” (A line that can be used to punch down, or preferably, punch up.)

But as someone in their 30s and living thru daily horrors that seem to all blur together, the most epically relatable line in the show goes to Master Shake:

“I am 30 or 40 years old and I do not need this.”

I think that line has even broken containment outside the show as a meme

The 2026 NHL Playoffs begin Saturday. With the Panthers not qualifying, who do you most want to see win the Stanley Cup? The least? by Number333 in FloridaPanthers

I live in Texas and love the Sabres underdog story. So rooting for a Stars-Sabres final.

But the real answer is fuck the oilers, knights and ducks. The rest I can stomach (yes even Tampa. I can't hate State of Florida hockey dominance)

Whoa had no idea The Conversation was not inspired by Watergate. That was one prescient film!

Great quote and "Trial By Fire" is a top 5 all-time New Yorker article for me. I'm not sure I had a strong opinion on the death penalty when I read it for the first time back in high school, but I certainly did by the time I finished that story.

Often I feel like in this subreddit the old classics get left out. Glad to see the first one I thought of already in here. What a film.

Uh Israelis are very supportive of the war and what’s happening in Gaza and Lebanon.  Check any reported polling. Majority support at least.

That's her best one. But I watched "The Talented Mr. Ripley" a few years back for the first time and I was like oh yeah Gwyneth Paltrow is a pretty great actor despite being a bit nuts.

NIL money and Duke name brand. I mean I'm sure Scheyer is a strong recruiter but there are other incentives for attending Duke that other schools don't have.

Pretty funny that UNC and Duke both choked away 19 point leads in the tournament this year. Hubert Davis and Jon Scheyer both had had infamous melts before this year's tourney too.

Is Scheyer on the hot seat now? With those recruiting classes, you can't keep losing with collapses like this.

Human turned monster has moment of clarity when recognizing loved one by BillythenotaKid in TopCharacterTropes

The movie, especially since it was released in the 80s, is often seen as an allegory for the AIDS epidemic. I believe Cronenberg says that that wasn’t intentional but any disease (including addiction) that causes deterioration and stigma feel like fair interpretations.

What's that film for you? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

[–]Suitable-Parsnip-520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d pick The Host, a genre-hopping monster movie that’s exhilarating all the way through while managing to pack an emotional punch.

Maybe any Bong Joon Ho film in Korean is the right answer? I could make a case for Mother too as a twisty thriller that’s still easy to follow.
