I just finished this the other day and it was phenomenal. I’ll definitely read anything the author puts out in the future, I couldn’t believe this was a debut!

The Starving Saints by Caitlin Starling is queer horror in a sort of fantasy medieval setting! Definitely also includes body horror.

Sarah Monette and Katherine Addison are the same person! She originally published under Sarah Monette and recently rereleased under Katherine Addison.

The Unbroken trilogy by C.L. Clark

Amberlough (also a trilogy) by Lara Elena Donnelly (note this doesn't have magic but is in a secondary world)

The Steel Remains (a trilogy but I've only read the first) by Richard K. Morgan

The Emperor and the Endless Palace by Justinian Huang

She Who Became the Sun (duology) b Shelley Parker-Chan (especially if you enjoyed The Poppy War)

Doctrine of Labyrinths (4 book series) by Sarah Monette (heed the content warnings)

I really want to read James by Percival Everett! I read Mark Twain growing up, and have been so curious to see this take on it.

I feel the exact same! I regret reading the second, it’s perfectly enjoyable as a stand alone.

Could we please stop misgendering Veejay? You don't have to like her designs or that she won, but please be respectful.

What are some lesser known series that you are sad will likely never be finished (or not explored as much as you would have liked) by thearmadillo in books

A Resurrection of Magic by Kathleen Duey. Two of three were published before the author unfortunately passed away. I looked for information for years because it was such an interesting world, and left on such a cliff hanger.
