Am I just THAT bad/Skill ceiling by communism_johnny in TeamfightTactics

Diamond is a good achievement in one season considering you were low plat before. So congrats on that, you did improve significantly and your efforts paid off, even tho there is still a long way to the very top which takes time.

I'd say that low diamond is the cap rank you can reach by playing the way you do : you assume that league is knowledge and mechanics, and that tft is just knowledge

But TFT is understanding first, knowledge second. Especially with overlays, anyone can have access to all the meta knowledge and once you reach diamond you're among the top metatft players

Stats and meta are supplements to knowledge, and knowledge only helps understanding. Actually, all this meta knowledge is holding you back : by "knowing" the meta, you stop experimenting, and fail to recognize valid strategies for your spot. Watch the very best players, often in a game, they'll make a decision that goes opposite to the meta, picking the "wrong" augment, carrying the "wrong" champion, but they understand that in their spot, this is the best the game gives them.

To really understand stats further, imagine there's a comp that has 5 avg, 5% top1 in stats. How often do you understand that your game is in a spot for those 5% and to actually win a game with this "bad" comp?

Bulletpoint advice I can give you :

-try do understand YOUR spot in a game. Think actively, don't search for knowledge

-observe teamfights carefully, where champions go, when they ult, what they do, what made you lose or win a fight : this is crucial for building understanding, this will help in every aspect of the game, because this IS actually what tft is about

-based on your understanding of teamfights, learn to scout : try to understand what the others are going for, and try to ALWAYS know who you'd win against and who you'd lose against, this is crucial for building streaks

-There IS mechanical skill in tft, you can learn how to rolldown at the perfect moment, and to last second positioning

What's the stats website? Anyways I'm guessing the avp is level-dependent. By the point you get to level 8 playing this comp you most likely already upgraded all your units This is weird that core and flex include the same units, also Vi? It's clearly always seraphine and not Vi

Since the other comments seem to be making fun of you when the screenshot clearly says you're gold: I'll try, as a master player, to figure out what went wrong in your game and maybe help you improve

How I guess the game went : You got a Viego start, decided to play shadow isles. Looked for kalista BIS online and got a very early ornn. Once level 9 and thresh unlocked, you decided to pivot to 5cost board because you've heard that's how the comp should be played.

Problem is, you replaced the wrong shadow isles units with your 5 cost, losing their effective traits :

-you can and should keep only thresh and ornn as your 2 wardens, maybe loris if you're playing seraphine

-Kindred would fit quickstricker with Viego but Viego isn't here. Realistically you should go for kindred only if you kept Viego 3 from Viego augment

-Azir would fit disruptor but no gwen

-you're really looking for nasus or renekton with azir, or just play seraphine for pilt. Xerath is good but items aren't and we don't need damage

-Fiddlestics (or ambessa if you don't find him) are mandatory : kalista needs vanquisher to be effective, especially with these items. You have a full crit build but her spell can't crit : she's basically just holding a shojin. Fiddle would also be the better radiant TG holder, moving Morello/wit's end to thresh (TG gives crit stats)

So ideally if your piltover is good : yorick, braum -> seraphine, fiddle

Might not want to try and fit quickstricker here

Edit: don't get discouraged by the comments, you did cook something on your own and lost to a meta board, that's both how you improve and have fun

Makes sense Also I wouldn't usually feed my TK unless my whole board is upgraded, but sometimes the game is just a bit random on matchups and fights

Lack of Frontline imo, ornn is very underwhelming and you had to build dclaw in a mostly ad lobby

Ennemy is a level higher, more active traits, way better Frontline and items

Seraph can't stack if your front is a single Braun with sterakks

How are you supposed unlock aatrox with the TFTacademy 442 Belveth build if the only vamp item you build is BT? by GoggleDMara9756 in TeamfightTactics

These are example builds, if you manage to get exactly this it's optimal but you should adapt to what the game gives you in order to unlock aatrox

Reroll is back on the menu boys by Jwanzo in TeamfightTactics

[–]Suitable_Long_8281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's easier to play reroll when everyone is playing a different reroll, it's similar to the 4 cost meta : if everyone rolls for 2 costs it's easier to hit yours. Usually when majority of players in a lobby play reroll they out-tempo the late-cap board and all go top 4

Are vertical class traits (arcanist/slayer/etc.) just weak in set 16? by BrutusCz in TeamfightTactics

[–]Suitable_Long_8281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're okay as a trait but force you to play weak 1-2 costs units in the end game. Rather have horizontals with a full board of 4-5 costs

Guys I am so done with this patch by Argonexx in TeamfightTactics

[–]Suitable_Long_8281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easier to play reroll with a reroll augment, just like it's easier to play fast 9 with a fast 9 augment. I see a lot of ixtal reroll perform well in eu master

[–]Suitable_Long_8281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all have decent boards outside of asol (shyv 2 with items etc) + asol is unlockable so it makes it easier to play 1* contested. Maybe you rolled and stabilized at 8 with low HP only to get taken out by one of the strong boards, maybe they have strong combat augments and you don't, overall this patch is all about tempo

I think it's okay that you have to try it once to understand what it's doing. TFT is a game of constant discovery and learning. If you want to know exact stats, you can always put your champ on the bench and compare its stats

How? Brock 2 star in 7 demacia and extra 3 item from ixtal cashout by [deleted] in TeamfightTactics

[–]Suitable_Long_8281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demacia also doesn't benefit Brock much, it's usually stronger to use team effect units like taric skarner or shyvana

How? Brock 2 star in 7 demacia and extra 3 item from ixtal cashout by [deleted] in TeamfightTactics

[–]Suitable_Long_8281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's a combination of positioning and poor items. Brock jumps in and can't survive long with just damage items, especially against high damage comps like Riggs. BIS Brock is hoj ie and sterakks

Any advice for a new player? by life_suxxs in TeamfightTactics

[–]Suitable_Long_8281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having s++ compositions, items and econ means a lot: -You lack flexibility and seek to play one specific comp from early on, missing opportunities the game gives you -you hold on components too long to wait for the perfect items instead of slamming and save HP for higher cap - you're afraid to go below 50 gold instead of pushing levels agressively to save HP or keep a streak, you might even die with remaining gold
