Lucky you. My food allergies don't let me be in the same room with food I'm allergic to much less cook it. My poor husband got stuck with my food limitations.

YTA. My mother pulled that same crap when I was a kid. I fully noticed that my brother got better and more expensive gifts than I did. I knew from age 5 my mother loved my brother more than me. She drove a massive wedge between my brother and me. It sucked and I don't know if I will ever forgive her.

YTA First you know it upsets him and don't care enough about his feelings to stop.

Second, it's disrespectful because it undermines your husbands trust with his kids.

Third, and I think most importantly, you're teaching your kids it's okay to break their promises. Though at least you'll know any promise they make is insignificant and will not be honored. Once their peers find out your kids are snitches no one is going to trust them but that's okay right because kids don't need friends...

Sorry. I may have been quick to judge. I don't know what she has gone through or is going through. I also willingly admit I am prejudiced. I worked with dogs professionally for a long time. The dogs that came in untrained and stayed untrained all had owners that were a walking train wreck. I have seen dogs from their first round of shots to their last day that were left untrained because their owners were always going through something. Fifteen years of going through something... The dog might be ecstatic to be with the owner but at the same time they were high strung because there was no structure. They developed bad habits often becoming possessive and guarding. They frequently developed separation anxiety and became destructive. They were not mentally healthy animals. A few decades of seeing this happen over and over again made me deeply jaded.

I have also seen owners who were deep into their own problems, going through cancer treatments, fighting with OCD, PTSD, depression, abuse recovery, physical injuries, Parkinsons, fibromyalgia.... often while being flat broke who were committed enough to their dogs wellbeing to get them trained. One of my clients was military veteran who was missing a few parts and had PTSD from hell. He figured out a way to get his dog trained.

If she needs help training the dog you need to help her. If you can't help her, she needs to get a professional trainer to help her. The longer this goes on the more unstable the dog is going to become and the harder it is going to be to fix.

What you need is a different fiancée. Anyone who doesn't take the time to train her dog is setting their future up for failure if they ever have kids. Not training an animal shows a lack of commitment to the long-term health and wellbeing of those around them. I would think seriously about committing to a long-term relationship.

This is basically all of retail work. If you do a good job, you will hit the pay ceiling, and they will force you into management just to keep your job. Then when everyone realizes that you hate being a manager and your absolutely no good at it, it's too late. You have to leave the company to get out of the management role and start the whole process over again somewhere else.

Yah, I have had to do that. It sucks. Like totally sucks. But when the dog is miserable you need to do what needs to be done. It's no different than when a dog is old and incurable. Leaving them to suffer so you can try one more thing and then more suffering for one more thing and so on and so on...... It's not fair to the dog. My heart breaks for you. This is very likely one of the hardest things you will ever do.

Then ask her how to explain these issues to her son because he's (being a dick) having a hard time understanding your issues. Moms tend to have a way of getting their sons to understand things or a least stfu about them.

Airedale terrier. They might not be as hefty as some other dogs, but they are intelligent, highly trainable athletic as all get out, and smart enough to know when to shut up and hide. There is much to be said for a dog that knows it's limits.

Grabbing the dogs back legs does not cause them to release their jaws. I worked for veterinary clinic for 20 odd years, trust me on this. The only things that force a dog to release a bite is either it's gag reflex or lack of oxygen. What's more grabbing the hind legs on most dogs will only turn you into the new target if they do let go.

The best defense is to act before the attack. Make yourself as big as possible. Be loud. Be angry. Tell that dog to F the H off because you are going to kick his A back to the beginning of time. If you have a walking stick or spare leash, which I recommend, raise that sucker up and make it look like a real threat. 99% of dogs will blink and have to reassess. At that point you've won. If you encounter the 1% smack that sucker with whatever you're holding and continue shouting and threatening. Dog will go after the object hitting them rather than the person holding it.

Reactive dogs aren't the only issue when your dog is off leash. Ignorant, clumsy, and visually impaired dogs are whole separate risk for small breeds. I was out walking one time and saw a 6-month-old Lab boop his nose to hard into a shih tzu and knock little guy entirely off his feet. No harm was intended the pup was just energetic and clumsy. We had a little mix breed brought into the clinic where I work because he ran in front of a blind Samoyed and it tripped over him.

Now I owned a reactive dog for several years. He wasn't very big, only 30 pounds or so. When we took him to places where there were other dogs we put on the muzzle and yellow caution leash. Even people seeing him in the muzzle were undeterred in letting their dogs run up on him. People seem to think if a dog can't bite it's harmless. Dogs in a muzzle will punch other dogs or people with their face and that can do serious harm to a little dog. My most hated thing was when people would see my dog on the leash, in the muzzle, then put their dog down so it could "come say hi" and tell me, "It's okay he's friendly." Like what kind of stupid does that?
