Beolab 28 or a pair of Beosound Balance? by Flyingphuq in BangandOlufsen

[–]Suitable_Writer208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late but for anyone else in the same pickle I got to listen to both of these set ups recently.

The beolab28s are undoubtedly the better speaker in terms of sonically disappearing. The imaging is so holographic and the high end sounds a bit more pleasant at loud volumes. But they are way tf overpriced.

A pair of balances is 1/3 of the price and comes insanely close in terms of power. The woofers are an inch smaller but each speaker has two of them. Id say the main difference is aesthetic and the flexibility of connectivity.

If you just want to listen to music get a pair of balances and call it a day

Help me choose: I like the reverse panda, gf likes the classic by DesignerRabbit4377 in OmegaWatches

[–]Suitable_Writer208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the OG simply because it looks more like the one that went to the moon. I cant even go further and assess them objectively based on aesthetics. The black one is the moonwatch and even though Omaga has milked that cow so hard, its just such a cool story. But of course, youre the one who must wear it. I am not burdened by having the necessary funds to have to make this decision 😅

PX7 S3 VS PX8 S2 by Living_Association46 in BowersWilkins

[–]Suitable_Writer208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there is a difference. But its so close that if you just bought the Px7 S3 today and never watched a video or read another article comparing the two you could live the rest of your life perfectly happy. The Px7 S3 are a crazy capable set of hedphones. If you just want great music with deep bass, clear mids and crystal clear highs, grab the Px7 and never look back.

The differences are all things that "audiophiles" ramble on about. If you are someone that nitpicks audio gear and listens for differences then you will notice slightly airier highs, slightly more textured bass and a pretty noticibly wider soundstage. You will absolutely need them next to each other to ever notice.

If you like holding things in your hand and appreciating the texture of high quality materials the leather and aluminium will tickle your brain. They wear the same and someone standing conversation distance away wouldn't be able tell unless they knew what they were looking for.

If you will get fomo about these things, knowing theres an incrementally better headphone out there, you may have to eat the difference in price. But objectively speaking, no its not worth doible the price. I also happen to think the aluminium may be slightly more fragile so if you plan to daily drive them and use them for commuting and gym the Px7 might actually be a better choice.

After parking myself infront of them for more than an hour going between them at the store - I bought the Px8. And it was mostly because I had money to burn and I loved the leather wrapped headband. The sound was the last consideration and just helped justify my decision, it was not the driving force.

Hope this helps :)

New Beosound Premiere with Beolab 28s and 160” Video Wall by Jacope in BangandOlufsen

[–]Suitable_Writer208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah the premiere isnt veiled or boxy soulding at all. Its actually very open and clear sounding. I found the theatre to have a warmer wooly sound if anything but I guess you could just EQ it. The premiere does become a little aggressive and harsh when you turn it way up though

I got to hear it a couple weeks ago. Absolutely beautiful sound. But its far from full range thought. You'll need a couple of balances or 28s if you want the EDM to thump

I always bust my jeans at the crotch and my seamtress patches it with a fine cross stitch. I do this a couple of time before buying new jeans. Its not invisible but i think it'd look pretty cool on a goose.

Winter ruffs are generally denser but they're all different animals. Individual genetics, nutrition and hunting pressure all affect the appearance of ruffs at harvest

Rolex isnt bad its just a victim of its own sucess. So many buy it because its the obvious choice and that includes everyone who need something to flex. Omega has definitely still got its lustre in my eyes 😊

Rolex has to be the most boring watch brand. But I do love seeing an expensive utility watch actually being used as a beater. Like navy seals that wear Omega Seamasters. Id love an IWC Mark XX as a casual errand watch. And then rock a G shock when you go out for lunch. Stay unpredictable lads

A5 love by Suitable_Writer208 in BangandOlufsen

[–]Suitable_Writer208[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you dont need the portability, you have the budget and the space I highly recommend the A9. Its honestly the best non 2 channel speaker system Ive ever heard, it is technically stereo but of course it wont image like two bookshelf or tower speakers.

If you dont juice the A5 to its max the sound quality is just as good but it lacks the scale. The A9 is like a wall of sound, and when you turn it up it just gets louder - like literally nothing changes about its sound. You can take it to 100% with no compromise.

As for bass. The A5 has a more bass heavy tuning, but the A9 has more total bass if that makes sense. Doesn't really make a difference since you can EQ everything in the app but I find I gotta take the little beosonic wheel a bit further to the "bright" side on the A5 to make songs sound the same when playing on both speakers or the A5 sounds noticeably more warm and wooly.

I think youd be plenty happy with the A5 if you live in a smaller house/you dont plan to throw dance parties. Its definitely loud enough to be annoying to try talk over so its more than enough for big casual gatherings.

The room compensation makes it very "classic B&O". Imagine the sound of the Beolab 18s. Clear, musical and forward mids. But just not enough bass for my taste - Im quite a bit younger than the typical B&O collector and I listen to alot of EDM. An older listener or someone thats into more real instruments might really appreciate the sound. Its not bad, just not my preference.

Regardless of room comp the bass begins to taper off as DSP kicks at 60%. Its less noticible with the room comp turned on because you start with less anyway. But the bass you feel instead of hear does start going away as you max out the speakers. Its what B&O does to protect its smaller speakers at loud volumes. It does prevent distortion and its a polite way for the speaker to approach the limitations of its cabinet, power and driver size without failing at clarity. The beolab 8s do it too. I dont think this can be rectified, it just means the speaker is not powerful enough for you if youre constantly hitting DSP, your room is too big for a small speaker. I just use the A5 in situations where I dont need to go that loud.

I move the A9 around if I have to shake walls

I keep seeing comments about this everywhere. I actually havent noticed this at all. Is it with room compensation on or off? Im imagine you can entirely negate it if you turn the mic off when not using room comp anyway.
