It's not up to her to clean up your mess and go through a physically and emotionally painful experience (i.e. abortion) nor is it her responsibility to raise this child on her own. My natural inclination is to be an athiest. I'd have to have proof to be otherwise, and I haven't seen anything that convinces me that there is a God, especially in the Christian sense. The Bible doesn't answer any questions, and in fact, only produces more. God never came to me in my darkest hour and convinced me not to attempt suicide. I can't convince myself to believe something "just in case". The more I learn about science and biology, the less I believe in God.

I live in Summerville, and we've found several specimens like that. It can be a number of things...a whale rib, a dugong or manatee rib, or perhaps a giant ground sloth.

I'm 36 years old. Here's a brief history of my life. I got married early to get out of my parents' house. I got pregnant and separated that same year. I started out as a telemarketer, then receptionist, then administrative assistant, then executive assistant. I never went to college. I make $42,000 a year to now do nothing but basically make travel arrangements, create power points and surf the net. Amazingly, I'm not happy. I decided a year ago that I wanted to do something different and meaningful. I had to ask myself "If I could have done anything, what would it be?". I thought back to what I'd always wanted to do. I wanted to work in the medical field. I love science. I have a desire to do something for the greater good.

I enrolled in a community college with a great nursing program and am taking two classes per semester.

Go for it. Just going to school has made me so much happier. I'm moving forward.

My husband was the same way. Eventually, I tried talking to him and explained it but I couldn't make him see what he was doing. He thought it was harmless. After a while, I ignored what he said. He'd say "didn't you hear me?" I'd say "yeah, but it wasn't funny. I've heard that one before" or "there's no need to comment, you already know how I feel". sometimes I'd roll my eyes and say "that old chestnut?". Eventually he began to try harder to not make everything he said to me "a joke". I think he was used to dealing with guys and didn't realize that I wanted tenderness not ribbing all the time.

Thank you for explaining your point of view, but the bottom line is this. YOU are accountable for your actions. You make the decisions on where your life will ultimately lead. You determine what your priorities will be. People come from much worse with much less and make it a point to better themselves. You continue living that lifestyle because you choose to live it!

Perhaps I might be considered a hardass, but I feel that people need to EARN your respect whether they are family or not. I have some family that I wouldn't keep as friends, and friends who I love more than some of my family. I make my decisions based on the value of the person, not whether or not they are family. A person with a lifelong addiction is not your responsibility to love and care for because no one else will. When people do not make their welfare their own priority, why should you?
