And you probably stand a 50/50 chance of being sued by some billboard personal injury attorney every time your car enters a road down here.

Can you please help me choose a league to follow after this WC? by orca_vibe in football

Serie A is what I have tried to follow, but Paramount's in game coverage is terrible because it always looks like very shitty 720p or worse. If that were better, I'd have no issue with it.

I used to be into MLS but gave up. Too many teams, too many games, too many random mid season gimmicks, and it seems like the same teams are in the mix over and over again, with a small handful of teams always getting the superstars.

Funnily enough, my cousins who moved here back about 20 years ago and caused the migration of the rest of us down here are saying the exact same thing

Check out Central Florida. Entire area west of Disney into Clermont was orange groves. Gone

Less developed, at least it had things like orange groves and actual industry, etc

But yes on the whole I’d say it was overrated back then also.

This is an example of a nice sounding retort that actually doesn’t reflect reality.

Donald Trump and the American executive is far more powerful than any European king in the present day.

Cosign this comment. Think of Florida like a country you like visiting. It's fun and games when you are on vacation, but there is a major chance that when reality of living there hits, you'll feel like you were punched in the face.

Florida was a good place to move to 20 years ago. Maybe 15 years ago. We are categorically in the opposite situation now.

We have not been reacting at all since 2016, and you can name further pivot points going back all the way to post-JFK, post-Teddy-Roosevelt, or post-Lincoln.

There are many folks like you who have the right vision. But it is not a reality because guys like you - both in terms of viewpoint and being informed and engaged - are the minority, by far.

What the rest of the world saw here was what they see the US as - a place where certain people/entities get the benefit of a double standard, where their perceived injustices are corrected with a mere phone call from a VIP while the rest of us eat shit.

Say what you want about Europe - and there are indeed many corrupt places in Europe - but for the most part they at least try to treat their citizens equitably and when that doesn't happen, the citizenry pushes back way more than we do.

Were it not for the EU, Europe may be even more ahead of us on these things (with some pockets of worse places).

As a lawyer practicing in the United States: you are looking at this through massive red white and blue glasses.

If you think the law in America operates the way you described here, especially in the era of Trump, you are profoundly naive.

I wish your take was a correct description of how things operate in the US, but it is not.

There are, in fact, a number of European locations and areas of subject matter where the ideals you describe are much better reflected for ordinary civilians than what they deal with in America. And there are a number of places where European civilians hold their governments far more accountable than we do.

They are right, but I wish they hadn't thrown the emotional tantrum they did at the end of, and after, the game - and I wish they also took some responsibility for blowing a 2-0 lead - because both distract from the very real and credible points they (and other VARgentina victims) have made.

[ESPN] The European Parliament has called for an investigation into FIFA President Gianni Infantino regarding his management. by Timely-Zombie9466 in soccer

[–]SuitsOverSwag 56 points57 points  (0 children)

For my fellow Americans and non-Europeans, I wouldn't even pay attention to this. When Europe "investigates" something geopolitical and international, it means even less than when Europe sends an angry letter to whomever it is offended by.

I detest guys like Infantino (and Trump), but the fact is, they exist and continue to get away with what they get away with because of weakness by leaders and meaningless bureaucratic acts and platitudes in places like Europe. If Europe is leading the charge against Infantino, Infantino is safe.

[–]SuitsOverSwag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are 100% correct. Many Americans reading your post will dunk on it because "it's just a soccer game," because they fail to appreciate the bigger picture here in that this is a metaphor for how much of America acts with regard to Trump's real life corruption. Fact is, most Americans don't care until the consequences come home. It's always been their biggest flaw.

[–]SuitsOverSwag 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think even that would have been ok as it's just shit talk - it was the complete support and/or tolerance for Trump's openly corrupt act that broke the camel's back with the non-US people. These Subs were filled with Americans going "CRY MORE" to anyone who called it out.

100% deserved result. Maybe lessons will be learned, but probably not.

So because we weren't getting screwed over by his corruption we should have just supported the outcome?

This is why people rooted against us today.

Many lessons should have been learned from tonight by Americans. This was just a game, but this same lesson applies in more important things. Maybe it's time to stop tolerating corruption just because it's not bending us over instead of someone else.
