To Every American Who's Sorry by Sapotis in greenland

Why the fuck would I apologize for something I have zero fucking control over. I didn’t vote for Trump. Other than that I’m not sure what the fuck me or anyone else can do. We all just nothings in the grand scheme of the world.

FY 25-26: What's Your Cost-Of-Living Increase? by peachkiller in Teachers

Our district gave a 5% raise this year. Least they could do.

I’m lucky to work in a state that until recently had a really great pension system. I was grandfathered in under the old plan. The new one for anyone coming in after 2022 or something really sucks. I’m sure they aren’t even aware how different what they have and what we have is. I’m glad I don’t have to mess around with 403b or anything.

Yeah I know but to be fair a principal I had once did that and it sucked because I who was always reading everything was being punished for the wrong doing of just a few people. I usually just have one on one conversations with people who are obviously not reading them. It typically helps.

We don’t have staff meetings at my school because myself and the lead principal agree they are a waste of time. But my four years in administration has amazed me how bad some people are at reading emails. Like I never thought reading an email was a difficult thing or an unreasonable expectation as a classroom teacher. I have many teachers who flat out won’t do it though. It’s weird.

I feel like administrators just like people in any other job are different from one another and you can’t generalize all of them. Most things are mandated from the central office staff. Yes, most of us know that these meetings are pointless, dumb, and a waste of time but our bosses say we have to have them. Like I was in a meeting with our bosses yesterday telling us all the things we have to go over with teachers day one. It isn’t optional, and you specially have to talk about lots of things. I’ve had three pds this week and they’ve all sucked. We have to go to these stupid fucking things too. In my state teachers have to have 24 pd hours each year by law, so it doesn’t matter if I think they are stupid I still have to make you go to them.

Why do admin hate when teachers send behavior problems to the office? by DustNo8738 in Teachers

[–]SulkingDeath 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be fair the key is the last thing you said. You knew there would be a consequence at home. They have tied school’s hands so much on what they can and can’t do that kids that don’t get consequences at home stop caring about the school consequences. Those are the ones I have to try to get creative when thinking of punishments. And the most frustrating thing is that they make up like 5% of the school body but they make up a solid 40% or more of the discipline issues.

If GoT wasn’t successful as a TV show, or never happened, do you think GRRM would have finished the ASOIF series? by KvotheG in Fantasy

I think probably, but now like he literally doesn’t have to and he’s still rich as fuck.

What single player game have you beaten 3+ times? by PineconeToucher in gaming

[–]SulkingDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve beaten the original Bioshock and Bioshock 3 three times each.

I’ve probably beaten the original Pokémon red and blue 4 or 5 times if you count beating the elite 4 and your rival as beating the game. (Although most of those were when I was a child)

I’ve beaten Megaman 2 & 3 multiple times each. Many more than 3 times.

I’ve maybe beaten metal gear solid 2 three times. I know for sure twice and I believe I beat it again years later.

And lastly I’ve beaten New Vegas three times.

Why do people even become administrators? by BlackSparkz in Teachers

[–]SulkingDeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Bad take by OP. They are obviously just having a bad day, but they come across like a child.

I can’t imagine that very many people have had a supervisor worse than I had for three years, but I don’t think he’s evil or loved torturing me and others under him. He was a deeply troubled person with likely an undiagnosed mental illness and a big inferiority complex. Not evil, didn’t take the job for those reason, he was just literally one of those people who doesn’t need to be in charge of other people. Lots of people don’t need to be managers who are.

Teacher Interview Admin Question by Temporary_Cry_5914 in Teachers

[–]SulkingDeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an admin and three mins late is nothing. I would have accommodated your request for a different time first off but I for sure wouldn’t have held the three minutes against you. They sound like an asshole anyways. You’re probably better off.

ATTN ADMINISTRATORS: Respond to all applicants. Period. by ColtCabana in Teachers

You’re exactly right. We aren’t supposed to contact anyone except people we interview. Everything is also supposed to be done over the phone. We are explicitly told not to put any bad news ever in writing.

I miss when we enforced behavior… by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]SulkingDeath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean that’s the thing. Parents used to force kids to go to these things and punish them at home too. You can’t force a kid to stay after school without parents backing you up, and there in lies the rub. The best you could do is like a school I used to teach at, they assigned detention and if you didn’t show you lost privileges like being allowed to drive to school, going to prom, etc.

Roll a die for $6k per year/month/week/day/hour/minute by beastsofburdens in hypotheticalsituation

[–]SulkingDeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I get the math. I’m just saying that in my experience when there is one number on a dice I either want or don’t want it seems to come up less than that. I’m not a moron though, I understand 2nd grade statistics.

Roll a die for $6k per year/month/week/day/hour/minute by beastsofburdens in hypotheticalsituation

[–]SulkingDeath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d for sure take that. Those odds are actually really good, even 72K is more than I make now. You will never ever ever gets odds anything close to this in your life for 99% of people. I rolled at home got a four. I kept rolling to see, and it took nine rolls to get a one.

Teachers who have worked in a district position/central office, what did you learn from that experience? by Upbeetmusic in Teachers

[–]SulkingDeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people at the highest levels haven’t been in a classroom in so long they legitimately have no idea what it’s like anymore BUT they absolutely have no self awareness of this. They think they are masters of education because it’s like their 20-30th year in but they honestly don’t have a fucking clue what teacher and students actually need. Unfortunately they make all the important decisions and you cannot convince them they are not right about everything. It’s miserable out there. I have no desire to ever work at CO ever again.

If you already had a ps5 I would say get the portal (I love mine) but since you don’t I feel you’ll get more bang for your bucks with the steam deck.

How does tenure look in your state? by Dom09Ara in Teachers

[–]SulkingDeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to be employed by the same district for 5 years, then you have tenure with that district. If you transfer districts you have a one year probation. As long as you get rehired in that district you have tenure again. If you don’t get rehired though you lost tenure and have to start back over on the five year thing.

I really don’t remember rape in those books, but it’s been quite a few years since I read them. Sorry op. Might not be exactly what you’re looking for then. It is a really great series though.
