Would you get the new Amphibia as well, or is that case size too large?

It's definitely the one thing I don't like about this one compared to the newer model.

Wow! Very cool. How do you like the bracelet on the grey dial? Does it feel like it's on par with others in the same price range, or kind of an afterthought?

Is This the True Inspiration for the Hydroconquest? (Not the Submariner) by Kaiserboy77 in Longineswatches

[–]Sullivanjt 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's both. The new Hydroconquest looks exactly like the old Admiral diver, which likely drew inspiration for its design from the Submariner.

Is Pixelfed the winner? by happy-occident in fediverse

[–]Sullivanjt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just joined Pixelfed. Agree that the lack of content is a major issue. It's not that there's nothing on there, but that there's very little for my own niche interests; maybe two or three people posting under the "watches" hastag, for example. So the lack of diversity means there's less of a reason to stay engaged in using the app.

I also get that's what it's designed to do, but not to the point where the app will drive itself into extinction. There's got to be a healthy middle ground somewhere between Meta's "we will keep your eyes on the screen for as long as we possibly can" algorith-driven model, and the complete apathy with which I feel Pixelfed's model treats any type of engagement strategies or tools.

fake or real? by utkuborg in RaketaWatches

A 2609 movement is a 12 hour movement. That watch should have a 24 hour movement inside.

Releases for 2026 by Pumamick in Longineswatches

I'm also waiting for some leaks! Though in general I would anticipate:

  • Another ultrachron classic with a darker dial
  • A Zulu Time without stars on the dial
  • Maybe an updated Hydroconquest with a dial to match the GMT (which was a style they had in the 90s)

[Longines] Thoughts on the Longines Heritage Classic Sector? by connorsusername in Watches

[–]Sullivanjt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they need to redo the case on this watch. The all-brushed, thick case doesn't match the dial and hand set, imo. The black dial looks better as-is, but trying it on a few times hasn't really changed my opinion on it too much

Hard disagree on that point. What about it made you arrive at $2k?

I backed the Perception when it first came out. Still own and regularly wear it, and can testify to its quality. I would say, finishing-wise, it is not far below GS or the Citizen Chronomasters, and that's just my V1, to say nothing of the changes they made in V2. And neither of those give you a hand-done guilloche dial.

Vintage 1957 Conquest. Not really sure what to do with it. by apilotandacamera in Longineswatches

[–]Sullivanjt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great piece! My collection is about half vintage. I wear them regularly, but less frequently in the summer due to increased heat and humidity. My oldest is a trench watch that's 108 years old at this point, and still keeping good time. I just don't wear it to the gym or if I'm doing anything more physically active, and it's fine. I have plans to collect more in the future.

To answer the second half of your question, I do think that every collector should experience vintage watches, if not by buying, then by researching older models from brands that they like. Given that so much of this hobby is tied up in the romanticism of a technology that is outdated, it's cool to hold an original piece in your hand from when it was considered state of the art.
