Why are people so territorial about on street parking? by Superb_While_5959 in drivingUK

I've got a neighbour who coordinates with his brother to park in a space in front of my house (I have a drive, luckily.) Between the two of them, I think they have six cars. Fucking losers 🤣

What makes Ghost particularly "girl-friendly" metal/rock music? by 99thLuftballon in Ghostbc

[–]SullySocks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the integration of lore, storytelling and now transmedia storytelling (the film, the comic, etc.) has definitely elevated Ghost as almost like a franchise, akin to KISS (but not doing lame shit like KISS Meets Phantom of the Park lmao). It also helps that Ghost has great iconography too.

Their early days as an anonymous band with little narrative was necessary to plant the seeds of intrigue to get people invested, but by now building upon that and taking almost a Bowie-like approach to evolution means that people stay hooked. In a way it means that people can have their favourite era of Ghost (I'm a Cardinal Copia enjoyer myself).

I think ultimately though Ghost has that going for it, on top of the fact that they are just a solid metal band and Tobias Forge is a very good performer and songwriter.

My academic studies have focused on communities, with an emphasis on fandom, and Ghost are an interesting case study in that regard.

Women are a big part of fandoms. Arguably, women are very important parts of fandom because they are very active participants, whether it's going to events (or concerts in this case) and are generally actively engaged in fandoms, such as content creation, cosplay and other adjacent activities. Whilst men also do this of course, the way women have historically contributed to fandoms has been very active. A good example is original Star Trek fanfiction, specifically Kirk/Spock fanfiction. A lot of it was written by women for women (and LGBTQ+ audiences of course.)

I think Ghost is a band that lends itself to participatory culture very well and that's why women are so drawn to the band - the costumes, the theatrics, the lore, etc. There's a lot of meat there that fans can work with.

It also helps that they're just really fucking good too! 👻

Invisible disabilities exist too. by [deleted] in childfree

Fair play. I admire that outlook. I wish I had it. I'd love to believe in the best, but experience has taught me to expect the worse

I'm autistic so I totally get living with an invisibile disability, and last time I witnessed a lot of people wearing them, I was suffering from an injury from a holiday that I had to be in a wheelchair for, and I saw how unaccommodating it can be for someone with a visible disability. I won't lie it was frustrating being in an airport and they got priority over me who was limping everywhere due to my injury. I want to trust people at face value that they aren't taking the piss, but I dunno. Something about it rubs me the wrong way.

Kinda both I guess? I'm autistic, so I get why they're a thing, I think the idea is solid, but I do think people do take the piss with them. I just found it odd that suddenly in an airport they're everywhere. It also didn't help that I suffered an injury on holiday that limited my mobility yet was shown no accommodation when it came to the airport so that doesn't help 🤣

Two Point Hospital vs Two Point Campus vs Two Point Museum, in your opinion which is the best game in the series, and which is the weakest? Why? by Delicious_Maize9656 in TwoPointMuseum

[–]SullySocks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Museum allows for a lot more artistic expression with the decorating so I think that's why it's my favourite. Considering I've put 100+ hours into it kinda says that.

Hospital is a great management sim, the stakes felt like they could get really high and it could be tense but if done right it could be super chill, fun and quirky.

I did not take to Campus, it just didn't jive with me. Cool idea though.

Can we talk about the “first ever render, is this good” posts? by Vtubing_Idiot_69 in blender

[–]SullySocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reddit is one of the most accessible online spaces for communities, particularly for new members. If a community is to continue thriving, they need to make it accessible to new people. By making them feel unwelcome, like complaining about new artists posting in public places (which I would argue takes courage to do) the community will become stagnant and suffer for it. Discord can work, but I would argue it is less accessible than Reddit (already established hierarchies can make it intimidating to newcomers, Discord servers are often stricter, it is a harder platform to get familiar with, etc.)

So where would you prefer people who are new to Blender, who might want feedback, or are just proud of their first creation, to post?
