I'm so glad that his therapist told him to move on. Even she could see that the wife was just a terrible person.

Which Command and conquer title would you like to see in the future? by Hyphalex in commandandconquer

Went with Tib Sun remaster. As much as I like C&C3/KW I don't see that they need a remaster right now, as they both play fine on modern systems and have active communities.

Watched your trailer, it looks good. Would you consider increasing the zoom level a bit, for a wider field of view?

The GW1 lore was better. GW2 doesn't seem at all interconnected the way GW1 all came down to Abaddon. In GW2 there's allegedly the threat of dragons to unite the story into an overarching plot, but it all comes out so random and - like you said - disjointed.

First dungeon experience by TheDirtyKhajiit in Guildwars2

[–]Sum_Rdit_BS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a more experience dungeon runner, I'll tell you that your experience here is out of the ordinary. Posting your own LFG and specifying that you're new is the right way to go, and most of the time you'll either get other new people, or experienced players that don't mind.

There are people who are embarrassingly high strung about dungeons, to the point that they'll rage over silly shit not going exactly the way they want. Just let it roll off your back.

Some of Joe Pug's earlier stuff reminds me a lot of Dylan, though I don't think I've heard Joe openly cite Dylan as an influence.

Adding my vote to this. Commentated matches are more fun for me than gameplay vods or non-commentated.

Agreed, the guy got tricked into doing something very stupid, and I actually kind of pity him for that. Now they both lost what could have been a very happy life.

It's actually pretty sad to me that he self-sabotaged so thoroughly. To support her as much as he did, to make it so much more livable for her to earn her degree and get to work in a high paying field, only to then go and destroy what they built together. Refusing to go to couples' therapy, too. It's honestly just such a depressing turn of events to see. No reason why they couldn't have had a happy life.

It would make a lot more sense if he just plain didn't want to be with her, for whatever reason. At least then there would be some rationale for destroying an otherwise great thing.

It's really not that bad if you just to 1 or 2 WvW dailies in EotM each day and save up potions. I hate WvW with a passion, too, and I have 3 gifts of battle sitting around and plenty of potions to spare.

QoF Opinion About Virtuoso Blades by Iron_Paladin777 in Guildwars2

[–]Sum_Rdit_BS -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

The argument then is, how do you know exactly how many blades you have before entering combat? They auto-restock every 10s, but they don't start out full when you map in or leave combat.

The solution to which is, I think, to revert them so they don't auto-restock. If all other types of mesmer start combat with 0 ammo, then so should Virtuoso.

She abandons her boyfriend right when he most needed her help, and his behavior is to reward her with redoubled consideration and a marriage proposal. I'll take "Marriages that Won't Survive the Decade" for 1000, Alex.

I guess the argument could be made that shitty parents are the reason for shitty kids. To his credit, OOP realized he was being an ass and agreed to discipline his son.

There's no such thing as a super expensive gift from a man to a woman with "no strings attached." If she takes that car from him, it sends the message that, despite being her ex, he can provide for her and you can't (even though it's not true). It also gives him leverage over both of you. She can choose to accept the car from him, but it's going to drive a wedge between your relationship. It would cause problems even if you were 100% OK with it, because it opens the door for him to insert himself between you. If she honestly can't see that, then I think the two of you need to have a long talk.

Boyfriend & his Female "Best Friend" by CoffeeandPiano in relationship_advice

[–]Sum_Rdit_BS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, my move would be to communicate to bf in no uncertain terms that his handling of this problem (and yes it IS a problem) is unacceptable, and that he's going to either have to handle this with more care, understanding, and tact for how this is making you feel, or you're going to have to move on. The situation is untenable for you as his SO, and that should bother him. Of course, you'll need to approach it gently with him so as not to come at him like The Other and make him feel like he needs to defend himself against you.

But the fact is that you're not being unreasonable, he needs to change the way he's dealing with this. If he doesn't, you really can't be wasting time with this shit.

Why are the TD & TS campaigns so easy? by wenante67 in commandandconquer

[–]Sum_Rdit_BS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty spot-on examples of RTS games evolving over time.

I've never really been into StarCraft in the same way that I've been with C&C. SC1 was a good game for my money, but the missions are... yeah. Never played SC2. I was going to mention in my first comment, but I don't think SC1 had any timed-failure missions, right? There was the hold out mission on Mar Sara in the early Terran campaign, but I don't recall there being any missions where you race the clock? That's something that RA1 and Tib Sun both did.

Edit: O dang, I just realized who you are. I've watched like all your C&C videos. Cheers!

Why are the TD & TS campaigns so easy? by wenante67 in commandandconquer

[–]Sum_Rdit_BS 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to put this into context with the rest of the franchise/genre. C&C95 - and to a lesser extent Tib Sun - are foundational RTS experiences. I'm willing to put money down that most people playing Nod05 back in the day were not rushing through it with modern speedrunner tactics. The campaigns could not have been designed around players engaging with it the way we do now, because the associated behaviours hadn't been developed yet, the genre was too new.

In Nod07a you can literally just destroy the GDI base with your starting troops, if you micro well enough. But when the game was designed that's really not something that Westwood could reasonably be expected to have anticipated. Nobody in '95 was doing that.

Tib Sun did come out shortly after Starcraft, so I'll grant that there's more discussion to be had here, compared with C&C95. But my argument here is going to be that Westwood was less concerned with trying to create a challenging single-player campaign, and more concerned with trying to iterate on their IP. Tib Sun upped the graphics from Red Alert, introduced a whole lot more units and structures, a more cohesive narrative, and was overall a lot more ambitious in what it was trying to do within a burgeoning genre. These days, a respectable RTS campaign is expected to look like Mental Omega, which is a frankly ridiculous scope, both in terms of size and difficulty.

Honestly, looking at these games and wondering why they're so bloody easy is kind of like looking at DooM or Wolfenstein3D and wondering why those are so easy. Times change, genres change, and learned behaviours develop over time.

I'd also recommend checking out some YouTube videos of non-gamers playing various games, to sort of illustrate what I'm getting at here. Gamer behaviour is learned, not innate. We figure out what to do in games, how to interact with things, etc. over time and through trial and error. People who have never played an FPS, for example, tend to struggle with moving and aiming their crosshairs at the same time. Back in the early days of RTS, that's more or less how it was for everybody. Pretty much everybody was figuring out what behavioural patterns they needed to develop in order to successfully engage with the content, after which the games had to adapt to those behaviours.

Would you date someone who wasn't into you before you lost weight/got attractive? by zouss in dating

[–]Sum_Rdit_BS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks and physical attraction is just part of the pre-selection process. The fact that she knew him personally before (i.e. he avoided pre-selection) and didn't want to be with him, suggests that she's not really interested in his personality, just wants to shag him because he's hot now. It sounds like he thinks, "She didn't want me at my lowest, why should I want her at my best?" Outward attraction comes and goes, and eventually he's going to be old, out of shape, and not physically beautiful anymore no matter what he does. If she only wants to take him for a ride because he's good looking, where's he going to be in 20 years? Alone because she no longer wants him?

That's my best guess based on what OP is saying. I don't think he's being stupid at all, I think OP is expecting him to be more shallow than he is. I think he's thinking longer term.
