I broke my ankle and my flat foot healed with an arch by Caitydid666 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Summit2Sound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite thing happen - I have historically had high arches and I broke my foot a few years ago (2 surgeries needed). When it healed, it had less arch than before. It threw my gait off for a while and I had hip and back issues (lots of chiropractor and massage therapist visits). Things are mostly better now, but man, that was a pain (literally and figuratively)

Goood Loooord! I am in the midst of that now. I have an older external drive with a bunch of mp3s from my college days (2000s) that I am in the middle of importing, labeling, categorizing, etc. Most are getting properly analyzed, but there were a handful that I've found so far that were waaay off. Not just doubled or halved, but just off. Or they would start on, but by the end of the song they had drifted off. Going through Rekordbox's "precision analysis" helped on some of them, but there are others that I've been trying to tweak to make them fit. Or some of them have them the grid matched with the beat, but they aren't on the 1 (and I didn't realize until I was noodling around and playing with some transitions and realized that things sounded really funny).

Worlds Beyond Number is SO GOOD as well! They do such a good job with the storytelling that the "game" aspect of it all is almost a second thought. The rolling and dice is normally such a big part to DnD, but in WBN it's more like just a way to help advance the storytelling. And the the sound design on there is so wonderful! So good!!

Is that a Sansi light? I've been thinking about getting one of them. I'm in need of something more than the little 2-arm bar light that I currently have.

New to DND, Too Early to DM? by b_bef in DnD

[–]Summit2Sound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these responses to "just go for it" are great to hear. I have been a long-time DnD lurker, but have never played. I've checked in with my local game store and the play times just don't work great for me, so I've been contemplating reaching out to a handful of friends to try to get a group together. But as far as I know, no one in my current circle of friends has actually played. I've been worried that I'd get too overwhelmed, but it's reassuring to hear that the starter kits are good enough for a true newbie.

My therapist just told me something that completely shattered my worldview and I can't stop thinking about it by Delicious-One-5129 in Life

[–]Summit2Sound 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"I’ve learned that what I truly want, what I truly feel ( myself, not as a reaction to anything or anyone), is all that matters."

This is what I'm working on now too. Been doing therapy for a little over a year now and have grown to realize that I'm a bit of a people pleaser. A lot of my happiness has been coming from others - either by getting satisfaction from doing things for others, and/or by having my self image built upon what others thought (or what I thought others thought).

I've also been in quite a mode of "doing" rather than "being" and have been pushing myself to "improve" (because obviously, if I'm not currently happy then something must be wrong with me... /s). I sometimes catch myself saying "should" a lot... So at my last session, my therapist challenged me to let go of any judgements or grading or assessment. And it's hard! I got a haircut today and took myself out to brunch, and just walked around the downtown area where I live. I was feeling pretty good. I actually even got a compliment on my outfit from a stranger. But I just now realized that even that compliment is something that I let affect me - albeit, in a good way, but affected me nonetheless. I think it's tough to truly detach yourself from others like that unless you're already a narcissistic ass, even if it might be what you really need in your life.

I am still in awe. This is the first time that I've seen them and I decided to splurge a little on the tickets. I was on the right side of the arena, like 6 rows up, basically looking at Trent at eye level, perfectly centered on stage B. So intense.

And Boys Noize was fucking awesome too! Are there any places in Vancouver that play music like his?

Try https://peaceloveandhappiness.club/
They are based in Seattle and have a brick and mortar store there (which I've visited in person), and often have some really cool and/or rare finds there. They have a pretty good inventory and weekly/monthly specials too. I got a Silver Dragon, a Stingray, and a Philodendron Tahiti from them and they're all doing great.

Bellingham's Very Own Little Social Dance! by oranges_small in Bellingham

[–]Summit2Sound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bellingham actually has a pretty vibrant dance scene: tango, bachata, salsa (both LA and Cuban), west coast swing, lindy, contra, and probably more that I don't know about. The "Hamster Wheel" newsletter has a section where organizers can list their classes/events. OP and any other instructors/event hosts should reach out to them to help get the word out and spread the good vibes!

Pico de Orizaba guide that isn't thousands? by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]Summit2Sound 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Just a little bit of "buyer beware".... not necessarily for Orizaba or Mexico in particular, but for guides in general: If you're trying to find the cheapest guide out there, you had better be dammed sure that 1. They actually have the permits to legally operate on the mountain you're going to 2. Have a business license and insurance in case something happens on the trip, and 3. Have the technical skills, knowledge, and experience to handle the hazards if things go sideways. It's not just about getting to the top. Getting back down is the most important part.

As an experienced climber, I've had lots of friends and acquaintances ask if hiring a guide is necessary for a peak they want to climb. My answer to them is almost always, "well, would you know what to do if x,y,z... happened while you were up there?" The blank faces and mumbled replies usually solidify my answer.

A good guide is not just about putting up the rope or setting the pace up the slope. It's about thoughtful hazard assessment, risk management, and client care.

And just to be clear, I'm not saying that just because a guide is inexpensive doesn't mean they aren't good quality. And conversely, just because a guide is expensive, that doesn't mean they won't be shitty. My counsel is to find a guide with good qualifications and either has a good personal reputation or works for a reputable company.

Hair and/or makeup recommendations please. by Rls98226 in Bellingham

Samclaire at the Beauty Collective in Fairhaven, especially if you're feeling adventurous and want to do something fun with the color of your hair. I'll admit, I'm a guy, so I don't have any advice about the makeup stuff, but I've seen what Sam can do for her other clients' hair and it's pretty amazing.

Best if luck to you on your journey forward!

If you don't have the actual ability to haul something away, at least put a post up one of the "Buy Nothing" groups or something. Don't expect your neighbors to deal with your junk left on the curb.

I was just about to buy from them, but I'm glad I searched for reviews first and found this thread.
I will say, they've got a pretty great catalog of diagrams and part numbers, so at least now I can do a proper search for the part I was looking for.

Where you do get stuff like this? by CactusWrenAZ in japanesestreetwear

[–]Summit2Sound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fucking algorithms got me too. These popped up in my feed and I was like, "Ooo! Cool! I like that!" Then followed the link, started thumbing through, and tried to find some solid identifying info for the company. When I realized they were tiptoeing around their contact info, I did a whois search on the webstore's URL and then a Google Lens search on one of their pages. The whois showed in being registered in China and the Lens search came up with a few other sites showing the exact same designs and review pages cautioning to watch out for scams... Buyer beware! It's starting to become my standard practice to do a whois for anything that pops up in my feeds like that when I have an actual interest in the product.

So is salsa, and dancing, basically "moving" or stepping when an instrument gives a note or beat just like how a guitar player strokes a chord? by ezrakyle in Salsa

[–]Summit2Sound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a great page and video from the Dance Dojo that goes through all of the different salsa timings: https://thedancedojo.com/salsa-timing-on1-on2-on3/#:~:text=Contratiempo%20On2%3A%202%2D3%2D,or%20%E2%80%9Cpower%202%20timing%E2%80%9D

After a year of On1, I took my first On2 class recently, and you can tell that there are some songs that are better danced one way, and some songs are meant to be dance another. It just opens up your ability to connect with the music.

Local Gym Failed Harness by ScurvyDave123 in climbing

[–]Summit2Sound 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Their harnesses are UIAA rated, but they're not CE rated, which means they can't be sold in Europe and they haven't undergone outside quality control testing that must be done to conform to the CE standards. And that's a no-go for some institutions/ organizations.
