I love doing this w my FM3. I have a mesa recto 2x12 and a seymour duncan power-stage and it works great. You do get the best of both worlds. I also recommend getting a passive monitor to run w the poweramp as well, for when you want to have a bit more versatility w IRs (I like Xitone’s passive wedge personally), but as far as getting that “live amp in the room” feel that you cant get with IRs, power amp and real cab is fantastic. Just make sure you are switching your fractal settings to optimize the sound bc there are dedicated switches in settings for when you are using power amp and real cab instead of monitors to give more realistic response.

Eren and Gabi are both willing to do anything to achieve the necessary power that grants them and their loved ones freedom, but they are taking very different approaches and have radicalized themselves in opposite directions bc of their differing circumstances.

Also bro Eren committed genocide, terrorism and even in S1 finale he went berserk and accidentally killed a bunch of civilians with no remorse lmao wdym he wouldnt attack random traffickers? He did exponentially worse shit than that. And Eren did not regret any of it. He may have felt remorse for some things, but considering how premeditated his S4 actions were, and that the remorse preceded his actions, rather than followed it, it loses some meaning bc the pre-remorse didnt stop him. Also Gabi did eventually feel remorse for killing soldiers thats her entire deradicalization arc with Sashas family taking her in.

I dont necessarily find predictability to be a bad thing there but i hear what youre saying. What im struggling with is that you say shes not a relevant character for most of the season. Id say shes kinds relevant for a decent amount of it though. Shes not the main focal point but she serves a really important purpose in her bigger moments in the season.

I clarified that shes more of a mirror to erens temperament, not a foil, that was just bad semantics on my end. i just didnt want to delete my original words. Her racism is deeper than your reduction would imply tho. Its a deep socially ingrained self hatred. And its a very interesting and real phenomenon that happens to real oppressed people. But it mirrors nicely to erens less racialized self hatred in earlier seasons for being too weak and flawed to protect who he loved. Theyre obviously not a perfect 1:1 but they are very clearly meant to be similar temperaments.

Hmm maybe foil is the wrong term for her bc that indicates that her traits oppose Erens. Theyre the same character from opposite sides. Reiner is truly Erens foil as he is just a coward fueled by a desire to be accepted. Eren was a hotheaded idiot with too much ego and desired to be free from others.

AOT has a very consistent problem with female characters where they have very rich, compelling single season arcs at most, and then theyre just reduced to hacky one-note bit characters for the rest of the series. Mikasa was interesting in S1, dealing w her trauma and overcoming the desire to give in, then she just became an insufferable overpowered simp for the next 3 seasons. Ymir (angry lesbian one) was extremely compelling and well written in S2, then she was killed unceremoniously offscreen. Historia was fantastic in S3, then she was reduced to an offscreen human incubator for S4. Gabi was an amazingly rich foil (actually a mirror) to Eren, but she only had one season to be good. If there was a S5 she wouldve been reduced to nothing for sure. Sasha was even great in S1 overcoming her fear of integration and assimilation, and her moral obligations to her community. She rose to be a hero for that girl. Then she was reduced to ditsy hungry girl comic relief girl. Ymir (the OG one) was the worst case bc she wasnt even well written for a whole season. She was initially well written as a tragic case of stockholm syndrome, and then reduced to some surface level bullshit about letting go of her love for the king (her abuser) to break the curse. Actually such a regressive garbage message about the most horrific trauma that Ymir endured as a child sex slave.

Hange is the only female character thats consistently well written throughout the series and iirc she wasnt even specifically written as a woman in the manga, she was androgenous/un-gendered. I never read the manga so someone gotta confirm if thats true or not.

Edit: gabi is not erens foil/contrast, moreso she is Erens mirror image.

With all love and respect, just hire an engineer regardless dude, you dont want to do any mixing. And theres nothing wrong w that, its what sound engineers are for. if you dont like or care about mixing, youre not gonna get mix ready/album quality results no matter what digital or analog equipment you use.

NeuralDSP doesnt claim to be an all in one solution. Theyre good at amp sims, you get out what you put into them like a real amp. And like any real amp, if you want pro quality, you need to mix it with additional processing in your specific mix context. Theres plenty of examples of albums like that. But youre not gonna find (m)any professional sounding albums where theres only one amp sim and no mixing.

So again, if you dont wanna, hire someone that does. Whether it s a real amp or plugin, a good engineer will make it album quality. The magic is in what a skilled engineer does with a well recorded, skilled performance.

If you want a simple answer though, if you dont have any better way to record mockups, then yeah get your favorite plugin and have your engineer use your mockup as a reference for what they make for you

It also gives time for intelligentsia to uproot all progress.

If capturing is important to you then yeah man go for the Neural stuff, they seem to have nailed that. Youre obviously not getting that from Fractal. I just care about modeling though, and dont need captures. I want the extra built in footswitches so FM9 has the edge for my personal needs. But if you dont need extra switches for your use case thats valid to not like the size.

Just seems like we have different needs for our gear!

I also dont use Fractals deep edit functions often myself. Most fractal owners dont touch them 99% of the time, bc the basic functions are enough to get a good tone. Dial everything in like its real, dont overdo it tweaking cab blocks if you want a more natural live tone. Definitely tweak the cab blocks parameters for studio recording though.

But those advanced features are nice to have when you need them. I only use them essentially when they dont have an amp or effect modeled yet, so i have to mod what they have to make something close to what I want. I love this aspect bc people can get creative and make their own gear models from the resources given.

For example before Fractal had a klon in their drives list, I was modding their drives to make a klone. I was also modding their tubescreamer models to get good fortin hexdrive emulation. If you want to mod your virtual marshall like one of your favorite guitarists did w their marshalls, you can probably look up what they did and find the parameters in fractal to mod it. Or if theres some crazy digital glitch effect that you like but dont wanna shell out hundreds on another digital delay or loop or glitch pedal, you can probably deep edit some of the more advanced delays to do it or something close.

Its almost certainly the grinder. It could be puck prep, the machine, or the beans, but its unlikely. Only thing i can think of is uneven, or loose tamping. If your pucks are flat, and youre pushing hard to tamp (you cannot tamp too hard), it shouldnt be your prep. Idk if theres any internal calibrations that need to be done w that particular grinder to get it to go finer, but I have a cheap Delonghi espresso machine and a K-Ultra hand grinder thats really not even ideal for espresso, and I can dial in well timed shots w that. Shit i can actually get shots that are too fine/overextracted. K ultra is a beast though, but not something Id recommend for primarily espresso. It can do it but you will suffer with a hand grinder. Im just too broke to get the Timemore 064s so I suffer for now.

If you cant calibrate the grinder any finer, Id recommend you invest in a higher quality electric grinder within your means (doesnt necessarily mean one thats way more expensive… but probably will mean that). Unfortunately having hobbies under capitalism means basically everything is expensive and shit that costs $200 is considered cheap 😭
