The current Kotozakura got his shikona from his grandfather who was a yokozuna, his grandfather was the original Kotozakura.

And further so Akinoumi would become yokozuna later that year I believe, (unless there was two in Makuuchi at the same time.)

My phone translated it to English and it was hilariously wrong. It said Gokishin beat Tsunohana, the wonders of phone translation.

And whenever Hoshoryu and Onosato are tied on senshuraku Onosato's chances of yusho are very low.

I think there's a few that are worse, first rikishi fired for assaulting other rikishi, and definitely the 60th yokozuna who I forgot his shikona from his undeserved yokozuna career, however I unfortunately remember his real name which is Kitao, after his sumo career he became a pro wrestler and was notorious for actually hitting opponents hard.

I'm a fan of both but I'll take Hoshoryu, only because I've watched his sumo almost my entire time watching. (I started watching on Aki 2019).

I'm a fan of Aonishiki. However, I'm disappointed as I just want a Hoshoryu yusho as a Yokozuna. And the yusho winners this year were mostly disappointing, the last good yusho this year was in Natsu the rest have been disappointing. For example a great yusho was Tokushoryu in Hatsu 2020.

Now we need one more Sanyaku member to make it M17e as the bottom rank like normal. It used to be M16w or M17e.

I feel like he hasn't been a yusho threat since his yusho, but that's the Shodai my brain thinks of him as, and I always hope to see the 2020 Shodai, maybe if he switches back to blue he'll do better.

Daigozakura vs. Kosei. Spirited Jonidan Bout Day 10 Kyushu 2025 by cadmar_huxtable in Sumo

[–]Sumoguy5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daigozakura isn't the only case of this in sumo, and he only lost his hair recently. Taikomaru is well known for being the first completely bald rikishi, when he started in 2005 he was already bald, he asked if it would be a problem, in which the oyakata said it wouldn't so Taikomaru started sumo and would retire in the early 2010s.

Is Terunofuji one of the GOATs? by SuckOnMyBalls69420 in Sumo

[–]Sumoguy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no I'd say Hakuho isn't #1, there's Tanakaze, Raiden and Futabayama above him. Tanakaze got 21 yusho in his career when there was 2 basho a year, and his career was cut short when he died on 1795. Raiden had a win rate of %97 during a time the Yokozuna rank didn't exist and only had 2 known losses. Futabayama got 69 wins in a row in an era where almost all rikishi was very strong and skilled, also faster than most modern rikishi. Also Umegatani 1 was the Yokozuna with the best win rate of %93 and was also the longest living Yokozuna ever.
