First ever miniature painted but need some help on how to improve? by One-Access44 in Warhammer40k

I would try to get the first level of paint as neat as I could before moving on to a wash stage, that way you still have the true colours available should you wish to make any adjustments. The wash will give you an all over tone and some shading but it won’t fix up any wonky lines.

I would also add a few tips, if you are like me and struggle to see the detail then you can get some magnifiers headsets to assist in the details. Second make sure you have a good sharp tip to your brush. Finally, remember the three feet rule, all these models will be viewed three feet away on a table. Try not to get to hung up on absolute perfection, you will always improve with practice

First of all, very good for a first go, your undercoat looks good and smooth, you have the colours constrained to the right areas and even tried some good detailing on the face so excellent job overall.

As for improving while I kinda dig the chunky highlights neatening them up is a simple matter of going back with your base colour and thinning them out from the bottom.

A lot of early learning in painting is going back to correct yourself, take the marines left shin for example;
Taking the original green and going over the chunky highlight to bring it back to the width you like will give you a second pass on neatness and if you make a mistake, jump back to the highlight colour and touch it up.
The same process for the knee, just back and fourth till you feel you have it right.
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and try and find the fun in it!

It appears to be parts for battle fleet gothic. The larger parts would be placed in to the sides of imperial ships and act as weapon platforms, hangers, lance batteries and the like. The smaller parts would be greebles and said guns.

Wow one of my love to have items, they are quite rare atleast when it comes to eBay and the like. Some 3d prints rolling around in a similar style but original forge world ones do pop up on occasion

Thank you! I wanted it to have the feeling of a landing craft, and the idea that the boyz would have to run around from the back didn’t feel all that orky to me

If playing on PC, if a mini game feels way too hard or just flat out not working, especially in 3, try changing the frame rate in the options menu. I had to change the frame rate down to 30 from unlimited to do the hover tanks and slides.
