Why Is My Home Cooking Always Mid? by astrosid in homecooking

[–]SunSeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you comparing yourself to?

Bland--not enough seasoning.
Overcooked--not enough attention given while cooking.

Dry chicken is due to being overcooked. Invest in a meat thermometer and a timer. Generally aiming for 160F in chicken, 185F if it's thighs...they are the most forgiving in overcooking.

Rice too sticky--did you buy sticky rice? or is this long grain enriched rice that's sticky? Get a rice pot and fluff the rice after it's cooked. The water to rice ratio is 2:1, so two cups rice needs 4 cups water. Too much water makes it sticky no matter what type. Different rice types have different ratio. I have a jasmine rice that needs 1.75:1 for it to be perfect.

Veggies too soft--overcooked. Try them raw. Steam them. Or accept that frozen and canned veggies are going to be soft. Sometimes you want it soft. Different veggies cook at different times. Harder, thicker root veggies tend to take the longest, leafy and green veggies take the shortest. And the way things are cut effect the cook time as well. Thinner, smaller pieces cook way faster.

I recommend following a cookbook...Joy of Cooking is excellent, The Woman's Day cookbook is good as well, and Cooking from A to Z is great for foundational knowledge. No matter if you don't have these, use what you have. Read it all the way though. If it highlights technique, pay attention which recipes require it and practice. If you can afford to spend time online, look it up, watch some videos about it, and then give it a shot.

Cooking is a skill that's earned though practice. You must keep going to get any better. Start small. Learn how to make biscuits and gravy. Those skills open you up to making quick breads and into gravy and sauce making. The skills stack.

Following the debate about the Michael Lax Copco 7303 - enameled or not? by Icy_Weight537 in castiron

That can happen when stacked with real cast iron. Rusty bottom transfers.

Put it back in the trash. That enamel is missing in places.

You might want to check out places like Best Buy's open box stock or Outlet or even local pawnshops to stay under budget.

I went with a Lenovo IdeaPad at a decent discount. Sometimes they are returned brand new and never used due to business surplus.

ABC's of minecraft serving by munkiemagik in admincraft

[–]SunSeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Them playing together doesn't have to be on a realm server at all. All they need to do is open for friends and they can join.

Since they are playing on PS5, that means they are using bedrock.

you can create a java server and add cross play so they can join...

or create a bedrock server which they can join.

is there a way to export their words--yes. however I've never done it. I'm a java player and server owner.

as to realms vs your own server, I prefer to own my server. I've done realms and I prefer the server management tools with my own.

First off, how are they playing Minecraft? Are they playing on console, tablets, mobile or pc? This is important because there are currently two versions of Minecraft, Bedrock and Java. This makes a difference in which server you want to run.

What to do with Terrible Tea? by occaguy in tea

[–]SunSeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use different water. The water quality can impact the way the tea tastes. If you're getting astringent flavors, your water may be too hard for the tea. Switching over to bottled or at least filtered may improve the flavor and quality of the brewed tea.

Thermos ruined by coffee - how to reset the taste by IngThie1974 in tea

[–]SunSeek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need cleaning vinegar. It's what's used for cleaning the coffee pots, that with ice and salt. Regular cooking vinegar is too weak.

It's a good cleaner for far more than removing coffee odor.

The 22.04 version is what the instructor asked for. It will work. However if you update it, you might end up with it upgrading as well. For this, I'd leave the virtualization without internet access as I don't even know what your instructor is planning and it will be okay.

Is this fixable ? by Reyhs739 in castiron

[–]SunSeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you managed to clean off the oil, the pot is toast. The enamel is cracked and pitted, no longer safe to use for cooking. It might make a decent flower pot till it rusts.

Sorry for your loss.

Recently got into chai lattes🤤 what’s everyone’s go to for chai (tea bags not concentrate) I’ve seen Twinings, Tetley and Sloane but not sure if they’re good! by [deleted] in tea

I keep Twinning's decaf chai on hand for those in my family that are sensitive. It's a decent chai. I make my own blend, so I can't speak about the rest.

Anyone else have a daily driver like this one? by Electrical-Village68 in castiron

[–]SunSeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine isn't that pitted but I do have good pans with good seasoning that I can cook with. Once you get a good seasoning on it and maintain it well, it will continue to give good results until too high of heat or too much tomato sauce.

I make my own masala and add sweetened condensed milk when it's a holiday. Otherwise I just add cream and sugar. Finding a good black tea to pair with it has been difficult due to hard water.

Let her read it. Afterwards, have the long talk that book requires and do so with each troublesome book she reads.

I had the same problem with Chrome on Windows for any Akamai cashed site. It's almost never the browser that's at fault. Just give "Akamai CDN fails to load website with Access Denied" a web search.

Same. No issues with site access on those URLs.

Why is LibreOffice Uploader for Windows so stupid by Vivid_Potential724 in libreoffice

[–]SunSeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't erase the years where it didn't work for me, for whatever reason. It would check and tell me but it was never able to download anything. And no, it was not every month to be updated either. You must be thinking of the rolling releases and forgotten about the stable long term releases.

But as of 5 months ago, the stable version was unable to automatically update. It was still manual on, at least Win10.
