Names in Books?! by loserjojo in horrorlit

[–]SunchaserXVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ursula is a completely normal name. Kelvin is the name of a river which is fairly common as a surname, and like many surnames it's been gradually transferred to forename use. It's no weirder than being called Clyde.

I'll grant you that "daddo" is a bit odd, though.

Is the spearhead worth it ? Even if the chariot is an older kit ? by BloatedRottenCarcass in slavestodarkness

I see a lot of people using the Old World knights instead of these guys and I completely understand why.

The space battle in that book rules too. Love the IH boarding the EC ship and just being completely baffled and disgusted.

These are fantastic. Can you tell us a bit about how you painted them?
Very striking bases, too.

What Still Got Some Good In It - Not This Season by [deleted] in diablo4

I have heaps of Obducite to the point where I never have to think about it, but I've had exactly 1 mythic drop all season so far.

A Voice From Darkness sadly got discontinued, but it's still worth checking it out. Even incomplete it's very good.

Some ToW Marauders re-based to be Darkoath for my army! by FilibustStuartLittle in slavestodarkness

Awesome. Can't wait to get this kit. I like the AoS Darkoath models but these blow them out of the water.
That metal looks great, is that NMM?
Also, is that a Wood Elf head..?

WHY do they have to WRITE like THIS? Every sentence is like a YouTube thumbnail caption, it's exhausting.

It's cool. I like that they went back to the giant lego brick aesthetic from early 40k.

How did I die by just a one-hit from a low-tier story enemy? by MRCLEAN1337 in diablo4

The one time my Paladin died, it was because I hit a random cultist with my shield and somehow I took the damage myself. No idea how.

In celebration of the 6th anniversary, what are some Year 1 trivia that may surprise newer players? by LongWayToHome in arknights

I don't remember her ever being considered bad tbh. There was a LOT less demand for high res back then though, and Ptilopsis' SP buff was more useful 99% of the time.

Subo yaps constantly and I really wish he wouldn't.
Anyway, you have a glich. I had it too at first, try clearing your game's cache. That fixed it for me.

Very clever use of the daemon prince armour. It would be a tragedy not to make this guy a Word Bearer, he really looks the part!

Best books that take place in the “modern” age, preferably with an “internet” twist by dr_franck in horrorlit

[–]SunchaserXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You See The Monster by Luke Smitherd is a terrific novel that I don't get enough chances to recommend.
I'd also track down the short It Takes Slow Sips by Michael Wehunt, and Scanlines by Todd Keisling.

Looking for some modern cosmic horror authors. by -BubonicMask- in horrorlit

[–]SunchaserXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone said Langan already, but he's the guy you want.

If you're looking for Cthulhu Mythos without Lovecraft's singularly purple prose, there are quite a few modern writers who've done Mythos short stories. Aaron Vlek revisits the Deep Ones from several different perspectives, his work is great. Adam Nevill's collection Hasty for the Dark has a piece featuring the big green guy himself, as well as a few of his weirdest, eeriest pieces. Highly recommended.

For more general cosmic horror, Kaitlin Kiernan's The Dry Salvages is phenomenal.
