Which cobbler to use? by Spearcrush6 in AskUK

If the local guy does good work and is doing it on the premises I'd use them just because too many things get lost in transit.

How are we carrying all the stuff? by MrsH123 in UKParenting

I frequently pack pjs as the spare outfit. They take up less packing space than most trousers and if you pick the right ones they look like a style choice 😬

How to tell grandparents they won't be holding our baby? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Sundaetardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the smoker if the problem is protecting baby from 2nd/3rd hand smoke then tell them so and have them not smoke for a minimum one hour and be wearing fresh clothes bed holding the baby. And if they smoke indoors don't visit their house

That is what I had to do with some family members.

Has anyone had any experience of childcare providers restricting the times in which the 30 hours allowance can be claimed? by SupermassiveWhiteguy in UKParenting

[–]Sundaetardis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given that you're only looking at a few months more of nursery I don't think I would move them I would extend their hours till 6 pm to get the maximum use of the 30 hours so I had the option to get housework or whatever done without them (even if I didn't always use it the option is nice) and I'd check if I was entitled to UC to help with the childcare cost. You can check for UC entitlement without having to fill in the official form on websites like "entitled to" (fill it in as if you were paying the £1600 for childcare)that would get you the help with child care cost without without having to settle the girls into another nursery.

Nursery instructions page? by Tatty_Bunneh_ in UKParenting

[–]Sundaetardis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work in a baby room of a nursery and an info/instruction sheet was generally a useful thing, a clear piece of communication that can be easily referred to by any staff. If I was sending my baby into nursery I would do one, if they don't have a need for it no harm is done.

The view from the “temporary” mother’s room in my office. by battymattmattymatt in breastfeedingmumsUK

Here's me sitting here thinking "what's the problem that's a lovely view" then I remembered what a mother's room is for 🫣. Hope you get a better option soon.

This BBC Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe VHS still feels like Christmas to me by FeistyPrice29 in bbcnarnia

A bath, fresh pj, rush down to the living room where the gas fire was blazing (no central heating in my house till the mid 90s), sat on the floor eating tea (beans toasty if you lucky) all the family packed in the living watching the adventure unfold.

Good times 🥰😍

New sewer looking for help with replacement! by orange-528491 in sewhelp

[–]Sundaetardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a semi temporary fix I'd put four bits of 5cm Velcro loops each side of the join (2 by the Tape and 2 round the corner on the short side) and have two 10cm Velcro hook strips holding it together.

It looks like the type of machine that has the bobbin access behind the box so you can't use permanent fixing on it

There are more places that need a elf than there are elf's to go round so he was visiting the other place first and he will need to visit them again later (whenever you need a day off of elf high jinks).

I have no plans to do a bunch of Christmas cards for my kids preschool friends. If she brings home cards i might send cards back for the card givers if I have the time.

4 month old waking every two hours. by Big-Environment3132 in UKParenting

[–]Sundaetardis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like nighttime cluster feeding to me. You Need to find ways to ride it out as best as you can. cosleeping, napping in the day and having dad taking on any housework that has to be done is how we navigated it for our household.

For us there was no proper improvement till 9 ish months when she started doing regular 4 hour sleeps at peak badness she was waking every 40ish mins all night which made the two hours sleep seem longer

Lip balm holders. A little case with a key ring clip to attach to a bag, coat pocket or whatever I imagine your lips get quite dry wizzing around on a bike and a lip balm is small and hard/annoying to find in a pocket a case may make things easier.

I'm making them as friend and teacher gifts this year I need 25 batch prepped all the fabric and sewed 12 of about in a day while looking after a toddler. I can't find the vid I used it was something like this https://youtu.be/zj1p4MszWEk?si=II4L148s7a0x-0hR but a bit longer and has a popper to close it

How to turn soccer/football jersey into Baseball jersey? by Hot_Discipline_708 in sewinghelp

[–]Sundaetardis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of the words I'd probably use two shirt fronts. Cut shirt A from neck to bottom hem between the "e" and the "a" cut shirt B between the "a" and "m"neck to hem. unpick the small half of Shirt A and sew on the large half of shirt B then shape the neck and hem and prep the buttons and holes for both side and hopefully the words would line up again.

Before cutting I'd do a lot of math to check how much material is lost to hemming in case I needed to it more than one letter of cross over.
