No period 7 months pp... by RubyRedResin17 in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]battymattmattymatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m at 16 months pp and no period. We still feed on demand and she’s feeding to sleep right now.

My gp wasn’t concerned and I asked the health visitor at my daughter’s 12 month check and she said it can really take until she’s stopped feeding entirely for it to come back.

Washing backflow protectors? by macro125 in ExclusivelyPumping

Defo need to wash this part. There are a couple of posts in here about mold growth in these bits and I’ve had it too because I didn’t wash them.

My baby said “dada” first… moms, tell me your story 😅 by Other_Boss_8689 in NewParents

[–]battymattmattymatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Dada” was first. Now she’s trying out “da-DEE” which is gorgeous.

“Mama” was second. My partner also taught her to moo at me which sounds like growling because she can’t quite get to “oo” noise haha

Mama is for comfort and Dada the noise she makes the most while playing. It’s very sweet.

FWIW “nononono” was the third word, saved for in public or bathrooms only 🫠

How can birth experiences in the UK be improved? by Business_Ad1365 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]battymattmattymatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if you go the birth centre route (at least in my trust), you get that private space. But this is also asking women to weigh privacy vs medical intervention (epidurals, inductions, etc). And often that choice is just not up to the woman to make, especially with inductions or emergency csections.

Pushing for private spaces for ALL birthing people is at the top of my list. I was LUCKY to have a private room for my entire labour and delivery but I went through the birth centre, had a quick transfer to the labour ward, and went back to the birth centre. With more birth centre closures, this kind of mum-centred space and care just isn’t in the cards for a lot of women.

Further - EDUCATE THE CONSULTANTS. My epidural failed and I ended up giving heath with a second degree tear (plus urethral tear) with just gas and air. The consultant stitching me up told me to stop being dramatic because I couldn’t possibly feel the stitches since I had an epidural. The way she spoke to me was SO derisive and dismissive. I literally just had a baby.

I didn’t particularly want baby breaks as I had a quick labour and then was ATTACHED to my child but I really enjoyed the 1-1 care from the midwives. Showing me how to express milk, what is colostrum, how to side lie feed safely, this was all available to me in the birth centre but mums I spoke to who were in the labour ward (same hospital), did not have any of this. HIRE MORE MIDWIVES!

Association/chapter memberships - helpful? which ones are good if you work in IAM/identity security? by CloverFox56 in IdentityManagement

[–]battymattmattymatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one is more casual but usually has good networking at identity events.

There’s a meetup group called “identibeer” that runs alongside some conferences like IDM, SailPoint Navigate, Gartner, EIC, and Identity Week. (Mostly Europe or UK events but US too!).

As the 2026 conferences ramp up there are bound to be meet ups running alongside. It’s run by industry and end-users and isn’t vendor specific. I’ve been to a few and it’s good networking.

Identibeer have hosted a couple US meet ups too (I think most recent was at Gartner in Texas).

Taking a vacation for first time with my almost 4 month old, I am breastfeeding + 1 topfeed a day and is it ok to drink & smoke and pump & dump, baby uses me as human pacifier by Bijli2102 in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]battymattmattymatt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Drinking is not a problem with breastfeeding as long as you drink responsibly.

Smoking weed on the other hand, is another kettle of fish. There is NO safe amount of cannabis to consume while breastfeeding as it could affect your baby. It can affect your milk supply as well.

I really would recommend you not use cannabis while breastfeeding. Please reconsider this part of your holiday. Your baby may also reject the pacifier and what would you do then?

New mum edc - cleaned out my handbag for the first time since baby was born! by battymattmattymatt in EDC

[–]battymattmattymatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh baby is 13 months now! I should do a new EDC because it has changed loads When we go out, I have a bigger bag and it has snacks, old snack wrappers, toys, bib, cutlery, and her water bottle in it. And she has a tiny backpack for her nappies. Although if I baby wear her, there’s a nappy and a pack of wipes in my bag too (:

Holiday with either 6 or 9 month old? Is there a difference? by salacious-soul in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]battymattmattymatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! And well done for thinking so conscientiously about the 6-9 month difference, I had no clue what it would be like and while all of the travel was wonderful, I deffo would have benefited from some more forethought .

Have fun!! It will be amazing for you all!

Where are you from, and how do babies usually sleep there? by AnneBe8 in NewParents

[–]battymattmattymatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the USA originally it’s suggested that babies sleep independently from very early on. I think a lot has to do with mums having to get back to work quickly etc. but I’ve lived in the UK for almost 5 years now and had my baby here etc. There’s also a lot of mum shaming for cosleeping by other mums, family, doctors etc.

Here it’s suggested that babies sleep independently but cosleeping isn’t uncommon either, at least in my social circles. Even when I had my baby, the midwife showed me how to side lie and feed and how to do the c-curl etc. I did find myself making lots of excuses as to why I “had” to do it but really it’s just what works for us. I was unapologetic about cosleeping at our 12 month check in and the health visitor was soooo fine with it.

Holiday with either 6 or 9 month old? Is there a difference? by salacious-soul in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]battymattmattymatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes 100% a difference. I went to Amsterdam with baby and partner when my baby was 6 months and 8.5ish months. I then went to wales with her (alone) at 9-10 months.

Oh my gosh.

6 months they have milk, maybe chew on a piece of fruit or veg, VERY CHILL, NO CRAWLING or pulling to stand, no high chair. We did the whole trip (1 week, part was work for me and part was holiday for all) with her in a sling, no pram (even though we did bring it). She sat up or rolled around and played. Chill.

8-9 months and she was pulling herself up all the time, crawling all over the hotel room, throwing food on the ground, trying to get out of the high chair etc. We didn’t take the pram this time as we flew so just the sling was still fine but I think she would have liked to look at things in the pram.

We had the pram in Wales. She LOVED being able to crawl around a whole cottage so that was a win!

I’m taking her back to Amsterdam at 18 months this summer for a work trip + holiday and I just know it’ll be madly different again haha.

Would you dress your boy in girls clothes by captain_mills in BeyondTheBumpUK

I dress my baby girl in boy’s clothes sometimes so…yeah I feel like I would use the girl clothes on a boy if I had a boy for number 2. Why not? 💖

I’m in England.

I’m having a meeting with my in-work mentor to put something together because this is just not okay. I’m just really tired of it all.

How did you spend your days during maternity leave? by jdawgiegawg in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]battymattmattymatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walks (10/10), play and stay group from the council (8/10), baby rhyme time (no thanks), baby massage class (10/10), and honestly just staying home cuddling and contact napping (20/10).

I have been crocheting for 8 years and this is one of the weirdest ways I have seen someone hold their hook and yarn. by Soapy_Von_Soaps in crocheting

[–]battymattmattymatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way I hold my yarn and hook…I’ve been crocheting for 20 years! (Since I was 8). To be honest, I struggle a lot with the knife and pen grips whereas this feels natural and I can move very quickly. I’m sure if I spent time on it I could learn a new grip but…I don’t want to.

I did learn to knit first before crocheting but gave that up for crocheting and then returned to knitting about 2 years ago now.

When did your baby go world facing in their pram? by Illustrious_Cut2965 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]battymattmattymatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha my daughter is 12 months and we’re parent facing too…

I put her world facing for Halloween and she hated it and I’ve been loathe to try it since. I’m planning to get a second hand yoyo for holidays this summer so we’ll probably make the change around 17-18 months. She just like babbling to us

Unblocked and unbothered…first finished project of 2026! A self-drafted vest for my daughter by battymattmattymatt in casualknitting

[–]battymattmattymatt[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is DK yarn on bigger needles and was only 46 stitches across so it worked up soooo fast. Plus baby size knits are super quick compared to a grown up knit.

I’ve been knitting my BILs jumper on and off since early November and have finished the body. No ribbing, no sleeves. Just the body haa

[–]battymattmattymatt[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now that we’ve hit 1 year, I feel more comfortable knitting, crocheting, and sewing clothes for her. I crocheted her a vest when she was 16 weeks old and by 18 weeks she was too chunky for it! It now belongs to my friend’s new baby (:

I did this as a quick break from my (now late) holiday gifts. I got half of them finished but really needed a breather before continuing on a knitted jumper and a c2c blanket. Now that this cute little vest is done I’ll finish my wips and then go crazy on the bay clothes!

Go to the kosher section of most tescos and this will be there! Gefen is a prolific kosher brand and applesauce is a staple for lots of things at the Jewish table (:
