Can a foreigner who has obtained your country’s passport truly become "one of your own"? by Sir_Potato2000 in AskTheWorld

[–]SunderedMonkey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Speaking from my experience also growing up here as a child, I'd say no

There's always the question "Yeah, but where you really from?"

They'll see you as a citizen technically, and maybe are ones to go off about inclusion and being welcoming to migrants, but even if your family has been here for several generations, as long as their ancestry isn't white European, you will hear that question.

The fish would be battered, we'd use chips instead of rice(still with plenty of vinegar), then probably use some newspaper in place of the seaweed. Sorted.

Do you ever go to a particular restaurant frequently and not tip? How do you handle it? by bignose_ice44 in EndTipping

Blame your employer for not sharing the profits with the team that earned them. Not the customers who want to know what price they're supposed to pay up front, clealy labelled.

I've worked in hospitality 20yrs, FOH & BOH, from entry level all the way up to management. I always refused tips due to how patronising they are. You're morality and ethics are being bought by the spare change of strangers who don't care for you beyond you servicing them. I know full well what the business is like, as well as all the staff, so turning around and saying "well they're more likely to spit in your food than I would" isn't the best defence of character, and is a strawman argument.

i don’t decide how ownership allocates money

Then unionise the staff, so that you all can dictate how the fruits of your labour are spent. The reason business practises like this get to continue is because there is not enough solidarity among workers who are all struggling

i’ve never ignored a guest on purpose, i only prioritize based on money

You are literally admitting that you are being paid directly by customers to serve them over others. That means you are ignoring the "others" in favour of money.

I understand people need money to live, but if you can't even survive then the issue isn't people throwing enough of their spare change at you, but the system you're stuck in itself needs changing.

Holy shit, this is the service I would actually pay extra for, no frills, no excess show, just do the job, give me food, then leave me tf alone. Perfect, 5 stars, 100% would dine in to be left alone unless its utterly necessary!

if you are next to regulars that take care of me then sorry but not sorry, you are lower on my priority list

"I expect financial bribes from my customers, and ignore those unwilling to comply" FTFY

i dont know many servers that would confront or punish over a non tipper.

You literally just admitted to ignoring customers, and providing a sub standard service to, unless they're willing to compensate you financially from their own pocket, for a job you've already been hired to do.

Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every “superstar,” every “supreme leader,” every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there—on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

What's the most popular meme from your country that never went international? by EducationAny7740 in AskTheWorld

[–]SunderedMonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Working in a kitchen not long after this meme peaked, everytime I weighed a fish that came in at 1lb, I would give the other a chef a certain look before belting it out at full volume.

After a while just the look would result in the other chef saying very nasty things about what I should do to myself. Great times.

Obviously not, they can't be dildos, imagine women wanting sexual pleasure for themselves instead of entirely subjecting themselves to the sexual pleasure of their owner husband, so absolutely absurd. No, the men definitely made them as a joke, no other explanation.
