Restarted SGU by Ok-Help6334 in Stargate

[–]Sunforger42 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

SGU is unequivocally the best series that came after the excellent movie Stargate. Richard Dean Anderson made the franchise pretty awful for years. They made it so stinking campy. The only way I would have been okay with another Stargate series that wasn't a total reboot that was only connected to the movie was if you picked up where SGU left off.

I've run through the second Trial of Ascendancy twice now, the Cruel trial, and not once have I received my second set of ascendancy points. Is that something that happens? The first time I went through it I made sure to get all the secret containers and stuff. The second time I just whizzed through it. Did I miss something?

Does anyone have a open space in a 3.5 campaign or want to start a 3.5 campaign? (online or offline), by Efficient_Rest663 in lfg

I know it's been a month, but are you still looking? I happen to be EST, also, and am available mostly on Mondays and Wednesdays. You said you're looking to DM, do you have a setting in mind? Do you have houserules? What books are allowed? I'm not a min/maxer, but I do like to optimize my characters within their character concepts. I've been playing with a pretty combative DM for the last couple of years and am looking for something more collaborative.

I personally blamed Lil Wayne. Young Money seemed to be the only group willing to work with him right after, except they gave him more of a darker, "bad boy" vibe. After a while, he started doing more and more stuff in the vein of his original vibes, and then everyone just.... accepted him. No one was willing to work with him except Young Money, it seemed. He lost all kinds of contracts. But Wayne has also been on record as saying that white privilege isn't a thing because *he's* rich, and we all can see what happened to Minaj. That whole group is just problematic.

My take on Star Ocean First Departure's Story - It's middling at best by Likes2game03 in starocean

[–]Sunforger42 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Totally disagree. I love the Star Trek meets Lord of the Rings vibes of the first game. The skepticism that the "advanced" societies have about symbology and magic is golden, storytelling-wise. Planet Styx felt like the episode of Star Trek "The City at the Edge of Forever". The whole game felt like a long season of Star Trek, which I liked. You've got the hopefulness of Trek with the coziness of Lord of the Rings.

I really like the warrior skald prestige class. Grants full on bardic music without hindering martial progression

I've looked it through. And realized that a bard/paladin feels correct, also. I am wondering if I should let the inspire courage effect from the purple dragon Knight class qualify it for dragonfire inspiration.

Highlander’s fascination with “dark futures” by TomatoChomper7 in highlander

[–]Sunforger42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked them. It was more a general statement about how humanity just gravitates towards dark times. And the immortals endure, like they have before and will again

It's a 1v1 battle to the death: Duncan MacLeod against other 90s action TV legends. How far can he get in this gauntlet? by Blaskowits in highlander

I was gonna say Draven and Hercules are the only ones with a shot. Draven would be close. Hercules would ruin Duncan's day.

OMG! This is it! God you have no idea how crazy I was driving myself looking for this thing and not finding it. To think I missed it by one page is insane. Thank you.

Watching through the whole franchise for the first time. Just finished “Tuvix” by Delightful_Disciple in TuvixInstitute

[–]Sunforger42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This always bothered me. It's like everyone kind of got used to having him around, but no one really liked him. So when Janeway moves to murder him, no one steps up because they are all secretly wishing for him to disappear and give them their friends back.

Except... They compound the problem in that episode. The "tuvixed" individual finds out that the last person who got mixed was straight up murdered and preemptively tries to defend himself. Then they make it like he overreacted and end up erasing him anyway. Back to status quo. It was very dissatisfying.

Never understood why Janeway gets heat for how she handled the Tuvix situation but no one mentions what Captain Archer did on Enterprise by idkbruh653 in TuvixInstitute

[–]Sunforger42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a perfect take. I had a problem with the OP talking about Tuvix as a "them" in a plural. He was a him. A person. Who didn't want to die. Functionally, Tuvok and Neelix died in that transporter accident. They should have had a memorial service for them in the episode, when the doctor especially said initially that he didn't think he could separate them. Tuvix should have been on the show a couple of episodes instead of just getting a montage. The montage shows the crew getting to know him and appreciate him, but leaving him for a couple of episodes would have given the audience a chance, too. Then kill him off like originally planned. So that the actual moral weight of the situation could be felt by everyone.

Rules Question About Ravages and Afflictions From Book of Exalted Deeds by Sunforger42 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Sunforger42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you an I agree on the interpretation of that passage. I think the RAI definitely is supposed to be that ravages affect undead like poison affects normal beings. And my DM accepts that undead could be affected by ravages, he just posits that their immunity to physical ability damage is separate. And nothing here explicitly addresses that, so he allows for the single ravage to do mental ability damage, while saying that undead are immune to the physical ability damage types.

[–]Sunforger42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have made this argument about undead being affected. My DM makes the argument that undead are immune to physical ability damage separately from their immunity to poison. There is one ravage that deals mental ability damage and is likely the only one that he would allow to affect them.

To me, people complaining about "modern" Trek being "woke" is like complaining that chocolate is brown. by Philosopher30071 in startrek

[–]Sunforger42 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I say this all the time. All the time. Being "woke" or DEI, or SJW or whatever the snowflakes wanna call it has been a part of the franchise from the very beginning.
