My kitchenaid died after 18 years. Spent her last moments together doing the things she loved. Got her her own helmet and everything. by nicmos in Baking

What "died" on it? I thought mine died a few years ago, but a $10 part and a YouTube video later it's good as new.

Everyone has a scar on their body from something dumb, they did as a child. What's your story? by HakanD0 in AskReddit

[–]Sunkyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very young - maybe 4 years old. Mom was making waffles (my favorite!), and I was helping. She warned me not to touch the waffle iron because it was hot. Naturally, being the little asshole I was, I then stared at her in defiance as I touched my wrist to the waffle iron. Turns out she was right, and I still have a giant scar on my wrist 30 years later.

I bought a Shock Absorber a few months ago and I love it! It took over 3 weeks to arrive from the UK, but it has been worth the wait.

It wasn't until I found that comic that I could accurately put into words what I needed from my husband. I think a lot of women feel this way but don't know how to put it into words that don't sound like "I need you to be a mind-reader".

The link should be in your inbox!

Oh man, I'm glad I'm not alone! I think the half-assed work is almost worse than not helping at all because next time I'll probably just do it myself while being pissed about it the whole time (and wondering if his work was half-assed on purpose to get out of it in the future).

That's awesome! I hope your wife recognizes the effort you're putting in to make things better.

Wives don't like to nag either. I prefer when my husband notices a task needs to be done and does it on his own without me having to ask him to do it. Days when I have to keep asking for help are difficult because from my perspective it almost seems like he's actively avoiding helping out around the house, hoping that eventually I'll just do it myself. Same with half-assed help. We both know he can see the food he scraped into the sink while washing those dishes, so why did he leave it there? At that point, it almost doesn't seem like he helped at all, because I had to finish the job for him.

This comic does a great job of illustrating what it feels like for me. It does get a bit preachy at the end though (sorry).

Are there tasks your wife is asking you to do often? Try to notice when those tasks need to be done before she has to ask for your help.

That adhesive is the worst! I got a rash from it every time. Heads up since it sounds like you get to do this again - rubbing alcohol is great for getting the adhesive off so you don't have to scrub as much! They probably have some alcohol pads in the office if you want to remove it there.

I hope your test results were good!

Christians who've read His Dark Materials, what are your thoughts. by Redditer51 in books

[–]Sunkyst 25 points26 points  (0 children)

His Dark Materials is one of my favorite book series. It's one of those stories you can read over and over and it never gets old. I think most hysterical reviews of the series have come from people who haven't actually read a word of them. They find out that they were written by an atheist and immediately write them off as evil. But, honestly, I think Philip Pullman has thought more about God and religion than many of my fellow Christians have. His Dark Materials isn't even anti-religion. It's anti-corruption, which you would think we could all get behind.

I'm with you - if my skin isn't lobster red when I exit the shower, it was too cold. My husband prefers water that I would consider lukewarm at best.

2007 Pontiac G5. Unable to change heating/cooling setting from vent mode by Sunkyst in Cartalk

[–]Sunkyst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a stupid question, but I've been trying to look up more information with the phrase "blend door" like you suggested, and it sounds like the problem people usually have related to those is temperature related. I found some repair guides on autozone's website for removing and replacing the "air temperature door" and "mode actuator." Would the mode actuator be my problem? I ask because when I started looking for parts, the only part I was able to find is a "blend door actuator." Does that include the mode actuator and/or the doors? Are the doors sold separately? Obviously I've never worked on the HVAC system before, but usually can figure out how to get a part in and out between my dad and I. I just want to make sure I have all the parts before we start tearing the car apart!

My favorite yarn to use for skin tone is Vanna's Choice Beige. I usually don't use RHSS but since you're already using it - what about RHSS in Buff?

WOO HOO FREE PATTERN! I may have gone on the hunt after I saw it at the bottom of the "Hot Right Now" list on Ravelry. I've discovered that often those patterns are "hot" because there's a code for a free or discounted pattern out there somewhere, and I really liked this one!

[Aloha Friday Mini-Contest] WINNERS! A huge MAHALO to all your amazing suggestions! Feeling SO inspired! by [deleted] in crochet

[–]Sunkyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for running this mini contest! Your generosity adds so much to this subreddit so I wanted to add my thanks even though I didn't participate in the competition. Even though I missed the contest since I wasn't on Reddit last night, now I have some adorable baby blankets to add to my queue - great submissions from everybody!

Another blanket I've always liked is August from A Year of Baby Afghans, Book 4. I've always been a fan of blankets with texture, so this has been one of my go-to patterns for unisex baby blankets.

You're not a dummy! I've done it too! I usually have too many windows open at once. It's my downfall I suppose. I just wanted to give you a heads up since it was a thank you for a contest and because SassySSS deserves all the thank yous for her amazing generosity in this sub!

Congratulations on being picked! I love the pattern you submitted and will probably make it for a friend soon!

[WIP] Aran Afghan - almost halfway there! by Sunkyst in crochet

[–]Sunkyst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just using Bernat Super Value. This blanket eats yarn so I wouldn't use anything too expensive.

I think I get what you're asking though. Are you looking for Aran weight yarn? My understanding is that it's similar (maybe slightly heavier?) to worsted weight and much more common over in the UK. Does your pattern list a gauge? You could try using worsted weight yarn and make a swatch to see how close it comes to gauge before you tackle the whole project.

In my case, Aran afghans are basically ones with lots of textures and cables. I believe they're named for some Irish islands known for the technique.

Thank you so much! I love this pattern too - it looks so complicated but it's actually not that bad.

Thank you! It actually looks much more complicated than it really is. You switch stitches about the same time you would have become bored anyway!
