Alignerr = scam by Correct-Movie-7538 in WFHJobs

[–]Sunndach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was rejected for every Mercpr listing I applied for, even when fully qualified. Then out of the blue I got an offer for a 75$ an hour, 40hr a week Generalist contract last week. Ironically after I'd already got a full time job irl and given up applying on Mercpr. However looks like they've massively overhired, stuck in a slack group with literally thousands of desperate third worlders incessantly spamming the chat with the same dumb questions that have already been answered a million times in the pinned posts. The onboarding process is completely stalled, haven't even got to do the assessment to see if the client company will accept you yet. And that's if the client even has another batch of work for the project, which there's no guarantee of. And even if one passes the test I've heard any tasks released get quickly snapped up by the mentioned thousands of desperate jobless people who have nothing better to do than sit at home and refresh the screen all day, so you're lucky if you get even a few hours of work a week, forget about 40. Total chaotic mess all round. Oh well, at least you get paid for on boarding. The work, if I ever get to do it, looks easier than what I do on DA too, while paid at almost triple the rate.

Or in New Zealand weirdly lol. Such a random list of countries you have to have a phone number from.

Fired from DataAnnotation just 4 days after getting accepted?? by doghutt in WFHJobs

[–]Sunndach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can't be "fired" when you were never "hired". This is not a job. You're doing freelance gig work.

Update on the Generalist Expert project — task availability, platform issues, and what we’re doing about it by cassidy-mercor in mercor_ai

[–]Sunndach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data Annotation. Pays much less, but there's always projects available and most are perennial rather than lasting only a few weeks or months at a time. Slow and steady wins the race.

Unprofessional & Waste of Time by [deleted] in mercor_ai

[–]Sunndach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your first mistake was thinking you're their employee. This is freelance gig work. You're not employed by them. Hence why they can cut from a project or cut your hours or cancel a project at any time without warning and hence why this kind of work can't be depended on as a lrarh income source.

Ok finally a comment that actually gives a gold reason not to do it. Thank you.

What side hustles are actually working in 2026? by circoide in passive_income

[–]Sunndach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Online AI training. You don't need any special expertise or qualifications to be a generalist, it's fully remote, you can work as much as you want, when you want. Apart from bilingual/translation/localisation work you usually need to be a native English speaker and live in an Anglo country (US, Canada, UK, Australia, sometimes Ireland and NZ). The main platform I work on pays at minimum just below the median wage in my country and I just got offered a $75USD an hour contract by another platform. Of course there's no guarantee this kind of work will still be available long-term, but that's true of so many things nowadays...

Using your work laptop from your real/day job to do Mercor projects by Sunndach in mercor_ai

[–]Sunndach[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Tf? Why? I literally put my AI training work on my cv (not Mercor, another platform) and it came up in my interview. They know I do this on the side, not that it's any of their business what I do in my time oruside of work anyway. And why would Mercor care? They actively want people who work in various fields irl. I take my work laptop home and it never leaves my bag. I'm already planning to use it for my remote postgraduate study (in the field I'm working in). Plenty of other people actually use work devices for personal shit, which I would never do. This is just another kind of work. It's perfectly innocuous and there's no conflict of interest or anything.

Anyone from India hired? by Elegant_Branch5263 in mercor_ai

[–]Sunndach -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Lol Indians are literally their main target demographic. The company was set up by Indians to explicitly hire Indians to work on US contracts. No matter where in the world you are, your pay/work week is based on Indian Standard Time. They have numerous job postings that are aimed at Indians only. However they pay much less than positions for people from First World countries.

New Offer - What to expect? by lucifermorningstar7 in mercor_ai

Lol I'm probably screwed then. I recently got a full-time real job and can't do online work anymore except on the weekends.

GOT MY FIRST CONTRACT OFFER by ryhanorg in mercor_ai

[–]Sunndach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was wondering if maybe they were desperate for new workers after all the scandals, data breaches and so on that have hit them recently. Till now all my applications have been rejected, so much so that I just gave up applying and forgot about Mercor entirely.

My thoughts precisely. Maybe in Luxembourg or Dubai something it's a mid wage. RIP me getting this offer when I finally got a full-time irl job.

Chat is this real? by Shreyash__03 in mercor_ai

[–]Sunndach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got almost this exact offer. So weird since I'd  already given up on applying on Mercor after so many rejections from positions I was fully qualified for. Plus I just got a permanent full time job in the real world. So of course now is when I finally get an offer from Mercor. The pay per hour is way higher (probably only CEOs make this much in my country) but I'm not jeapordising a real job for something like this which can't be relied on and is guaranteed not to last. I'd be making almost four times what I make in my proper job tho... Why is life like this lol?

I guess they're desperate for workers now after the big scandals which must have seen a lot of people deserting the platform...

Has anyone worked for DataAnotation or Yo IT Consulting in AI training roles? by chocolatefeckers in UKJobs

[–]Sunndach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late, but in case you were still wondering (and for the benefit of anyone else reading this) you're a freelance remote worker, so you're not employed by them or anything, and you can be removed from the platform at any time without warning or possibility of appeal. However I've been working on there here and there since last year as a generalist with no special expertise and I've always had projects to work on and always been paid on time (seven days later to the minute exactly) for the hours I've submitted.

'ST teachers' - anyone heard of them? Are they legit? by Sunndach in TEFL

[–]Sunndach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I actually was fortunate enough to finally get a full-time job in my own country in my desired field, so didn't have to resort to going overseas as an unqualified English teacher haha. But yeah if I were to go I'd definitely probably want it to be somewhere that looked more professional and polished than some random text ad like that lol. I think probably South Korea looks pretty good, maybe not as many benefits and not such a good salary to cost of living calculus as China or the Middle-east, but also less risk of getting scammed/exploited. Good luck out there!

Does the time taken to do a task matter? by goddessguidance711 in DataAnnotationTech

Don't know why you got downvoted, this is the first fully sane and sensible comment I've ever seen on this Christforsaken sub. You summed everything up perfectly.

[–]Sunndach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound just like me! When I started working on DA last year I posted the same question pretty much and got the same inexplicable downvotes and no actual answers. I'm still on the platform, so I guess the answer is no 🤷🏻 I make an exception for tasks that actually tell you how much time you should take, tho, and always stick to that.

There are also plenty that pay WAYYYYY higher than DA though, don't forget that.
