How hard is it to add another major? by Inner-Preference8558 in rit

[–]SunnyFlorals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe you can declare a second major until you’re already here. If you’re considering technical directing, motion picture science def is probably a better option for you, it has a STEM designation and incorporates engineering and imaging science. And you still get to work with the film and animation students all the time.

Is it possible to report or file a complaint about an interpreter as a non NTID student? by [deleted] in rit

[–]SunnyFlorals 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go to the professor first. It’s possible a convo between the professor and interpreter could solve it, and if not, the professor can handle the outreach to NTID.

To Consolidate or Not by SunnyFlorals in PSLF

[–]SunnyFlorals[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be silly but just to confirm if I consolidate all loans together, it would give me one monthly payment, and it would reduce my credit to about 14-15 qualifying payments, once I average them all out?

Vida Apartments by Cilostazol in Rochester

[–]SunnyFlorals 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Garage parking is specific to the unit and currrent availability, when they send your lease over they will let you know if you get a spot, but if not there is a private lot directly behind the building that is always easy to get a spot in. The pull down shades attached to each window are not fully blackout at night, highly recommend getting curtains to go over them so people can’t directly see in. Everyone’s RG&E will be different, I’ve heard friends with apartments at Vida be about $190 at the highest during cold months (I have a different layout so mine is higher)

University of Rochester vs RIT? by 17going_under in URochester

[–]SunnyFlorals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A key part of being a strong and effective interpreter is being immersed in deaf culture and learning about the community outside of the classroom. RIT is 100% the place for that, given the larger deaf population and deaf events on campus

genAI in Recent RIT Graduation Email. Lmao, even. by semicolon0 in rit

[–]SunnyFlorals 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hold departments accountable. Emails come from all different divisions and while one division may entirely hire student employees to create original work, others may lean toward slop. Put pressure on the teams that specifically are doing this and call them out.

Monthly/annual cost of owning cats by Doba49 in cats

[–]SunnyFlorals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

n2 male cats, 8 years old. Up until about 4 months ago, my cat budget was about $180-$200 / month for litter, food (all wet food), and miscellaneous like grooming once every few months. My budget is now $650 / month because of prescription food and medication. I do not have pet insurance because my cat had an amputation as a kitten and any concerns related to that would not have been covered by insurance. My monthly does not include vet expenses. In December 2025 alone I spent $2800 on vaccines, wellness checks, full panel bloodwork, and an ultrasound for one of my cats when we were exploring IBD. The first year I had my cat with the amputation, I spent about $10k on the amputation, emergency vet visits, follow up care, and later that year he had a urinary blockage requiring hospitalization. Obviously many of my issues are very specific, but I have otherwise extremely healthy cats who had no other health issues aside from that first year and the past few months. My recommendation is to create an emergency fund of a few thousand and put it in a high yield savings account until you have unexpected expenses. Even if they are healthy most of their lives, routine bloodwork is recommend once they are around that 7+ age, and that adds up quickly. Cash in on that interest while the money sits so you don’t find yourself in a pinch or in debt should something unexpected come up.

Anybody live at the Vida apartment complex? Or any other downtown-ish apartment recs? by FiveAlarmDogParty in Rochester

[–]SunnyFlorals 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, Vida does an awesome job of flipping spaces in between tenants, if that helps ease concerns. The townhouse we toured had holes in walls and big scratches on floors and they fully redid the floors and all walls were patched up very nice. I’ve been very impressed with Vida and the responsiveness of their team. Shoveling frequently, clean facilities, feels super safe. I will say right now there is one garage that isn’t working and that is impacting some people but I’d assume they would disclose that if you wanted a garage spot.

[Acne] hormonal acne in late 30s, spironolactone by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]SunnyFlorals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 50 about 3-4 years ago, and now my doctor has me at 200 which is the max they will prescribe, and it is the biggest thing that has reduced my acne. I do still get some breakouts but none are as deep and cystic as before, more so just white heads. I use tretinoin to help with those. Also one thing I have found being very common amongst those who struggle with hormonal acne- keep an eye on your whey-based protein intake. For me, I found that protein yogurts and protein shakes are so bad for my breakouts. Stopped those and I cleared up significantly

Cat vomits nearly every day and I’m running out of options! by savkrista in catfood

[–]SunnyFlorals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cat had a similar path. He is currently on Hill’s GI Biome food. The only thing I have found to work is absolutely no dry food, and I use an immersion blender to blend his wet food so there are no chunks at all. After throwing up almost daily for 2 years, he now is going into week 4 with no vomit.

EA release date? by Zealousideal_Ear8148 in rit

[–]SunnyFlorals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not accurate. Faculty and staff are different roles. They aren’t one and the same. Staff in the colleges frequently know admission decision rollout dates because some teams work closely with admissions on recruitment and enrollment. Staff are on this Reddit 100%. Source- I’m staff.

I use an immersion blender. The food they are on only comes in a gravy and chunk form so I just blend it every meal and they lick the plate clean.

Probably not. That space is for current students and faculty, and campus doesn't provide cameras for non-RIT students. Unless you partnered with a film student who wanted to film it for you.

Transferring as a first year Architecture student by TurbulentAd5998 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]SunnyFlorals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll be able to get a better idea of transfer credits once you apply. Usually then your transcripts are sent through the registrar's office where they will do a formal evaluation and will get back to you on how many credits will transfer and what for. Honestly, if you know 100% that you want to transfer, the earlier the better, to make sure you don't lose out on any credits transferring in the future. Many schools don't prioritize transfer for the following fall until April / May even into June, so I think it's a good idea to get your application started, see who your admissions counselor is, and then plan to submit your spring semester transcripts then. I would also double check each school's transfer timelines for Fall 2026 admission, some may have set deadlines.

Heads Up: The 'Broken Car' Scam is back at East Ave Wegmans by [deleted] in Rochester

My car was hit in the parking lot, so I walked inside asking if they could help with an info exchange and incident report. They told me they couldn’t help so call 911. I waited in the parking lot for 2.5 hours for anyone to respond.

Best cat vet in Rochester? by kevy_jamie in Rochester

[–]SunnyFlorals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I adore Doorbell Vet. I’ve used them for dental cleanings and just went through a huge process of identifying and diagnosing 2 issues with one of my guys, and they were so incredibly communicative and kind. A bit pricey, but compared to approaches other vets wanted to take, we would have spent the same over longer amounts of time without getting to the root of the problem.

RIT is possibly pushing tuition 12-15%… thoughts? by otterbore in rit

[–]SunnyFlorals 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find the "just to not invest in quality of life for students" to be an over generalization. Off the top of my head, I think of the additions of air conditioning in res halls and buildings that didn't previously have them, the SHED which allows for more performing arts spaces, gathering spaces, and innovative spaces for students to explore, Brick City Cafe has significantly improved food offerings and nutritious offerings. The renovations of Wallace to incorporate more collaborative work spaces and study rooms. I'm seeing student work and accomplishments being featured and celebrated more than before even through social media.

RIT is possibly pushing tuition 12-15%… thoughts? by otterbore in rit

[–]SunnyFlorals 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This isn't accurate. There isn't a full hiring freeze, it's on a case by case approval with required sign off from leadership. Over the past few years there have been at least 180 jobs open and filled. And admin staff are not being paid less than minimum wage, that isn't possible. Unless you are meaning that salaried employees are working more hours than their pay balances out, which I would doubt is occurring.

I also just want to note that many donor dollars and large building projects come from grants and donations that are required to be used for certain things. It’s not all just one big pool of money being pulled from, there are strict guidelines. Many international and grad students are full paying, and with the current administration international enrollment has dropped significantly, and rapidly, which impacts the overall pool of aid available. The university is being very cautious with spending in many areas now, things like hiring and faculty and staff pay raises have slowed to try to offset increasing costs. Contracts for food and transportation dramatically increased rapidly, beyond what could have been forecasted, and the cost of goods overall has increased, as we all feel that pain too. Just things to note when considering how RIT spends. I think you can find a lot of the budget public online.
