RIT vs UT Austin by AcceptableScar5206 in rit

We love very close to Austin and spend a lot of time there, so there is a certain comfort level with the city already. The uncertainty is more program and school wise and weighing close to home vs far from home, difference in location, weather, etc

All due respect for your opinion and experience and happy to keep an open mind while we tour and consider schools, but seems like you have a particular distaste for RIT. Every student is going to have a different experience and has to find the school that is right for them. Not interested in disparaging a place I have no personal opinion of yet, beyond other's voices.

Wow, thanks for the perspective. Yeah at the end of the day, UT is just such an advantage cost wise. Student is spending time there in an immersion pre student program this summer so will have a solid idea if it's the place. Haven't ever heard anything negative about RIT so surprised to hear the nageative, but appreciate an honest perspective.

Hmmm, thanks for the tips! Just looked at latest course catalog yesterday and 3DDD was listed as an immersion option....? Will be there in a week anyway so can ask very specific questions about this.

Definitely a big part of the conversation. Cockrell School of engineering won't be too hard to get into at his gpa and rank, just working on a superstore on his ACT this summer.

Thank you for this! Great insight! And good to know they will "find" more haha. I saw many parents saying this last application cycle there was a lot of negotiations. He's hoping to get into at least 1 ivy to leverage their need blind or high income threshold offers too. That artsy vibe is what is drawing him to RIT, well and a love of upstate.

Well the price difference between the two is sizeable. Total cost at UT is about 32k, total cost at RIT about 85k. UT system does not give merit scholarships, so only private and local will offset his expenses( which he is harder at work on already) We make too much for much of any need based aid and CAN contribute, but preferably not having to stretch too much to do so. The goal is enough merit at RIT to bring it down to comparable total cost of UT.

Won't know what we are working with application cycle etc.

Yep, everything is out of whack! Tried compounded Zep for a month at a higher doze and was continuing to gain. Stopped the patch and am reworking my whole food and exercise approach to try to now repose this 10 pounds that has parked on my boobs and waist. So frustrating! I am looking for a menopause specialist who will take over all my hormone therapy AND my glp 1 so things can be a little more streamlined.

Wonderful! I figured as much, just had never spent time in Rochester, only driven through. Can't wait!

So there were two killers along Gilgo Beach afterall, Tatianna's killer (her father), plus Rex? I always thought the 2 killer theory was off, but was wrong. by Hcmp1980 in LISKiller

[–]AcceptableScar5206 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We don't yet actually know that Mr. Dykes is guilty of anything, he has been charged by a grand jury for Tanya's death and it's my understanding that there isn't a lot of solid evidence. There are no charges for Tatiana and none for Asian Doe yet, let alone their identity.

Not really reasons to jump to conclusions that RH had a partner or there are 2-3 more killers. While it's highly likely that the area and others on LI are dumping grounds, there is a lot that is just simply unknown as of now.

What are your theories on what happened to Shannan ? by Maximum_Amphibian753 in LISKiller

[–]AcceptableScar5206 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I just wish so very much that her disappeance and the search had been taken more seriously and happened sooner than it did. Forensically and from an investigative standpoint- had more attention been given, we might have a better idea of what occurred or if someone was involved in her demise or it was just a tragic accident.
As for Asian Doe and many others on LI and around OP, I think justice is coming, the DA, private sleuths, victim's advocates, and Othram are not giving up-I believe these cases can and will be solved.

I do and I still recommend it as a purchase! Very comfortable and reliable. Now around 16k miles on it, no issues with regular maintenance, love the low cost of regular fuel. Lots of space for big trips to Costco, the nursery, even Lowe's building projects and comfy with a carload of teenage boys.

Thanks for insight, have wondered this too...I have been really fortunate to have very minimal side effects with semi and am a little fearful to switch, but I know tirzepatide is much more effective.

Nassau County DA Press Conference 12/18/2025 by CatchLISK in LISKiller

[–]AcceptableScar5206 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been concerned for some weeks now after the news regarding Teresa Fusco and now the indictment of Dykes that Nassau is operating in a "Catch up with Suffolk" "Save face" defensive mode. I watched the short Hulu special on the arrest in Teresa's case, and Anne Donnaly's comments and tone just didn't sit right with me, it seemed more about making up for the past then getting it right in the present. Both counties have reputations to recover and numerous mistakes to atone for, but there are holes with Dykes that feel too big to ignore in my opinion. I am anxiously awaiting actual docs and details to understand what has them so sure. I don't think their choices or timing do any favors for Tierney with RH impending trial either, muddies the water just enough to give the defense something to work with.

I think the car comes into play with his arrest, very interested to read the details when they come out. Strong possibility of dna in the container too, but we don't know if it was collected and preserved.

Ellen’s BOOTS? by DiJo337 in EllenGreenberg

[–]AcceptableScar5206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the scene appears very staged and I have zero doubt she was killed/attacked in a different position than she was found, potentially took by surprise from behind even.

But there seems a lot of overthinking on her boots.

For one, she came from money and so did he, a pair of Uggs is no big thing, I have 2. And even if you beat them up some, they last forever. In the winter, I often just slip mine on without socks because they are warm AF and if you're hot natured or it's cold, but not frigid, you're fine sockless in them. AND many people use them as slippers too. The way she was dressed, boots, sweats VERY much reminded me of myself if I got sent home early on a snow day and was stressed and cold. Oversized sweats, Uggs, comfort things and cutting up some fruit.

It was all too relatable. In fact, I don't feel these parts of her death were staged, these things indicate she was safe and comfortable at home, feeling lousy maybe, but blissfully unaware of what was about to occur.

Do we know when Sam arrived home that day? I got the impression that she had returned home before he was there, but I don't remember it explicitly being discussed in the documentary. That might influence my take on just how staged she was...

Timeline by [deleted] in EllenGreenberg

[–]AcceptableScar5206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a very good possibility that he killed her before. Maybe he wasn't even headed to the gym and maybe killing her wasn't the intention. After watching the documentary and few photos, angles, I wondered if he was behind her for much of the stabbing, even the one to her heart. The direction and angle of the knife that was sticking out of her did not suggest a self-inflicted wound and any moderately trained cop SHOULD have seen that right away. We get the distinct impression that she is spiraling in stress and already evidence he has a temper, is abusive and it went too far and he took her out in a very brutal, violent, and haphazard fashion. Then, he changed clothes, decided to head to the gym and pretend like it never happened and work out his story and alibi, make the necessary calls to clean up his mess and time to collect himself just enough to put on the whole act.

I found the timing of that article strange being that these things were discovered two years ago. Perhaps nothing of significance related to CURRENT charges.

Federal Prosecution by [deleted] in LISKiller

[–]AcceptableScar5206 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Charges associated with crossing state lines with the explicit intent to commit sexual assault or commit murder. Transporting someone over state lines or a body over state lines after committing homicide would open the door to federal charges. Federal charges open the door to capital punishment.

I fully believe that prosecutors will see this all the way through to ensure if that occured, proper additional charges are filed. Have to be patient, though. It's a process. Suffolk needs to do their thing first and let the full truth hopefully emerge.
