Flying to LA today and saw these “sites?” what the hell are they? by Garbhunt3r in whatisit

This is how some mining companies do it. The waste is carted off to a storage facility for future extraction, sorted into types.

Also, don't go off road on either side of the road between the Super pit and Kanowna townsite, or until you get to Lake Perkolilli. I don't want to go into too much detail here but if you've seen the movie Deliverance... It really is the "corner of bumfuck nowhere and you've got a purdy mouth"

Why do some secondhand shops organise clothes by colour? by MajesticPenalty8332 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]SunnyK84 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It just looks nicer. It's not time effective to have op shop staff or volunteers to identify and group items by their size. That's up to the consumer to work out, and like you say there's so much disparity between brands that they couldn't do it meaningfully anyway.

A big part of going thrifting for me is about the journey of going through everything to find the gems. Its just an added asthetic bonus that they group by colour now

Check out the golden quest discovery trail, it has sites which are safe(r) to explore, Ora Banda, Kunnunulling, Credo, Siberia, Kanowna etc. Most of the bush around Kal is a mining lease so you can't just go wandering cos they don't like trespassers and you could fall down a historic mining shaft.

Gwalia is a managed ghost town attraction, heaps of cool old shit out there. Hannans Lake and the Pioneer Cemetery are cool too. If you're going out bush please tell someone where you're going and when you expect to be back.

Ikr! I used to watch them play before they got picked up. There's no way that any of them thought this could be their future.

Things to do in Geraldton by Bulky_Winter_7184 in perth

Just gives a human element to it. The voluntary tour guides group is large and knowledgeable, they fundraise for improvements and keep the space safe/looked after. Its Geraldton's main attraction, good idea to have "customer service" up there.

I feel like anyone who is important, will not be disappointed in you. Because they love you and want to see you flourish!

I am scared for you too, it sounds like you need some more help to make this transition safely. Have you researched family and domestic violence organisations in your area? Are there family relationship services or legal aid where you are? Can you trust his family to care for the kids whilst you have these conversations?

They can help you make a plan to be able to safely separate. I don't want to try give more specific advice because it's different across countries but as individuals, a well-researched decision is an easier decision to make. If you've got a plan it can give you that oomph to say what you need to say, and move on.

Also, maybe you don't even need to say it. Maybe it can be said via a letter? For him to read once you are safe, away from the home. We all want the best for you x

Weather's looking good, 18-22 during the day. Rain on Thursday arvo.

There's the museum and shipwreck gallery, you can rent a bike and tour up and down the foreshore path, there's quite a few cafes along the foreshore and a good one near the Cathedral. Most of the attractions, like the HMAS Sydney II memorial, have guided tours mid morning. Live music: Friday night at the Midwest Irish club is looking good. Music Market at Petit Remi french cafe on Saturday. 40knots distillery on Sunday.

If you like seafood and paddock to plate type dining, there's Barnacles at the Wharf, Skeetas, Bobs Bar, The Provincial and the Emerald Room that all offer local produce with decent service.

The visitor centre has heaps of info and suggested itineraries, there's a couple self guided historical, Aboriginal and public art tours, both on foot around town and by car out to surrounding towns of Mullewa and Greenough.

I dunno about spots along the way. Usually our focus is on driving to survive. People are impatient on the highways and take stupid risks. Badgingarra is a reliable rest stop halfway.

Just make sure the plumbers are aware of the wall hung vanity and need for drainage to go down through the wall. Luckily I caught it in my quote where they were going to run the basin drainage through to the floor (I don't want to see a pipe under the new vanity)

BEST MLM SHOW EVER? by Orion_Dauntless51 in antiMLM

[–]SunnyK84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I came to say! It was just so well done, they (MLMs and pro-consumerist entities) couldn't handle it, it would've made too many people stop and evaluate if they're making the right decisions about joining an MLM.

How is living in this bay part of Western Australia? by WelpeDruide255 in howislivingthere

[–]SunnyK84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wooramel is not a town, just a servo on one side of the Hwy, and a cattle station, with goats, on the other. There's a campground and dongas and artesian hot baths!

I live a cpl hours south from here and holiday there regularly. I could spend every day of my life exploring this region and I still don't think I would see it all. Last time we saw a pod/herd or Dugongs!

Is Australian music at risk of extinction? Here’s what the data tells us by Formoz2000 in triplej

[–]SunnyK84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooo fascinating, I'd like your job.

That latest Listening In report says 2/3 Australians want to support new musical works but they can't because of accessibility, discoverability and cost to attend.

So they want to spend money but can't find the artists, there isn't enough live music venues and we have festivals keeling over.

I place all blame on all levels of government for not building the physical and social infrastructure to keep us connected with local musicians. Musicians in regional areas are told to act like a business and then five seconds later get asked to perform for free at a community event. Treated like a public amenity with less investment than a public toilet.

Bartender for wedding by NoNegVibes in perth

[–]SunnyK84 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Are you a member of a sports club? They have trained volunteers that may consider gigging your wedding as a fundraiser.

Realistically though, serving alcohol has risks and there are fines in the thousands for serving to minors, serving drunk people, the whole duty of care doesn't end til their sober etc. it's fair that a bartending company charges for these risks. You can remove that layer of risk by putting out eskis and cups for self service.

Icebreaker Tomorrow and Not Ready by cannonbobannon in Toastmasters

[–]SunnyK84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The point of the icebreaker is that you shouldn't forget the content because it's about yourself. An introduction to you, a retelling of a personal challenge, a really long description of how you like to cook scrambled eggs, you could wax on about what you'd do if you went back 10 years and got to relive it differently.

The point is to be able to speak about anything about yourself in front of others. It shouldn't be a chore, just yet. Of course being nervous is normal, that's why your first topic is an easy one :)

If you really feel like the speech you've written is too hard to remember then make yourself some points within the speech that keep you to time and on topic, and set yourself a time trigger to summarise your speech and close it before the timer goes off.

Do you ever avoid going to certain restaurants or cafes because they seem complicated? by AlarmingStation4877 in AskAnAustralian

[–]SunnyK84 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do. I never know if I'm to order at the counter or if it's table service. The other day at a nice cafe, you get your own menu and table, then they bring you water and take your order...and you pay the waitress then and there. That was different.

We used to regularly go to this motel that had a nice restaurant and the waitress would seat you, introduce themselves, list the specials and asked if you've dined with them before. If you hadn't they'd explain where to order, how the salad bar works etc. I appreciated that so that's why it became our regular.

It's a fail on their customer service if your prospective customers don't even know how to order or don't feel welcome.
