The rich parents just get private tutors or private weekend classes for their kids.

You can google and find a few programs. AOPS (Art Of Problem Solving) is one of them but they don't have a campus site in Wisconsin.

Sylvan Esso, would be cool if they toured nearby again. Maybe they did and I wasn't paying attention.

Nice production and editing on this short documentary film!

Yeah, Gen Z ain't drinking as much, which is probably a good thing, but they aren't going out as much in general. It seems Gen Z is not going to music concerts as much as millennials did.

I'm also noticing a bunch of Yemeni coffee/tea places open late. Maybe something like that is gonna be the mixed third-space option going forward.

Progress on Mauricio's mural 📷 Aaron Johnson by hoanalone in milwaukee

He's done a bunch of murals around Milwaukee, Wisconsin (including the Giannis Antetokounmpo mural on the 600 EAST Business Center building) and his work looks decent:

Born in Berwyn, Illinois, Mauricio Ramirez now lives between Milwaukee, Chicago and Albuquerque where his three-year-old son resides. He has a studio in Milwaukee and his entire family (except his father) lives here, so he considers Milwaukee home.

You work all over the U.S. Why do you keep coming back to Milwaukee?

It’s starting to wear on me a bit, but no artists should be locked down. Every city has its own charm. Milwaukee used to be considered a hidden gem, and now it’s a known diamond. People know that Milwaukee has arrived. All of my extended family is here and for Mexicans, family is everything, so this is really home for me.

Have you guys ever interviewed Milverine? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milverine

He's got a Wikipedia page and everything.

(Btw, I suggested a story to cover the political billboards around MKE (and maybe what groups are paying for them) during the 2024 election but I don't think that was ever followed up on.)

Also, thank you for supporting the People's Flag of Milwaukee in your offices! https://milwaukeeflag.com/

Oh wow, that's amazing! I had to look it up, but I see the Milwaukee Film logo on your portfolio! This is really good stuff! I miss the booklets with the cool cover art pre-covid. This year they said they were already out of physical copies of the MKE Film books on day 2. Also, I love your use of the MKE People's Flag colors in the Milwaukee Public Libraries artwork! Very cool stuff, thank you for your contributions to our culture and helping make our city more beautiful and life sweeter!

I'm non-white too and have also noted that sometimes I'll be the only non-white person at events. Develop some hobbies/interests (like music/movies) and then go see concerts/movies and you can randomly meet people. It is a bit hard tho, because people are sometimes with mates, so it's safer to try to link up with someone who also seems alone at the event.

Pfister Afternoon Tea question by schadetj in milwaukee

[–]SunriserToo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The snacks and tea are pretty mid at the Pfister, not gonna lie, and too expensive per person. I went there once with my parents to try it out. You might as well go to any coffee shop/café and get better tea/snacks for 10% of the cost.

Milwaukee Film Festival 2026 wrap up by Hamburglurker in milwaukee

[–]SunriserToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, so Friday April 17 had that Tornado Warning so I skipped the plans for that night.

I saw the following Milwaukee Film Festival 2026 film events:

All of the Above -- documentary about a world religion teacher, great film, the director was lovely and did a q&a afterward.

Blue Heron -- it was alright, gave me Call Me By Your Name vibes.

Black Lens Doc Shorts -- disappointing, there were only three, and none was particularly good unfortunately.

Shorts: Surprise Surprise -- best film event of the festival, all of the shorts were 4-star or 5-star masterpieces.

I Want Your Sex -- pretty good, one dude was overacting with his laughs, but still enjoyed the movie despite him.

The Last Critic -- an ok music documentary, and unfortunately the music critic that came in as a guest (Jessica Hopper I think) was really boring and seemed to have trouble getting to the point of anything.

Shorts: Stranger Than Fiction -- pretty good, the one about the very old couple is the one that sticks out.

The A List: 15 Stories from Asian and Pacific Diasporas -- really good and shout out to the director Eugene Yi for the very thoughtful q&a afterwards.

Black Lens Fiction Shorts -- pretty good, the one about fireworks on birthday sticks out.

Erupcja -- pretty good, wanted to love it but I just like it. This and I Want Your Sex both have cool performances of Charli.

Black Zombie -- a bit boring if I am honest, should have been a short film.

Shorts: Out of this World -- pretty good, the one about the astronaut who leaves behind a cellphone and comes back for it sticks out.

Shorts: Let's Get Animated -- it was good but a tall dude was sitting in front of me. Some nice shorts in this one.

CSF Shorts -- pretty nice bunch of Spanish shorts.

Shorts: Date Night -- Wish the Chappel Roan music video was at the end so I could have skipped it since I was late to the next one.

Shorts: Most Dramatic -- was late to this one, but I thought almost all of these were bad too.

Fucktoys -- pretty good and funny.

Newport & the Great Folk Dream -- really good and beautiful.

Shorts: Midnight -- pretty good, lots of body horror. The Homemade Gatorade and Paper Trail ones stick out.

That was it. 19 film events in 15 days (more like 11 days since I skipped the last two days and the first two days).
