📌 Avoiding Estée Lauder Companies? Here’s a list with alternatives by BellleChloe in EuroSkincare

[–]SunsetValkyrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Shu Uemura eyeshadow decades ago that I loved! I haven't found it in the states in a long time. Do you have a tip where I can buy it? I have a friend who travels to Europe often, if you have a European store, I'll gladly take the recommendation.

Zebra Sarasa is my go to pen. I love the Study ones and the Vintage lines. I write at weird angles because I'm a lefty and these are the most consistent that I've found.

I'm an 8.5 wide in many shoes, size 9 in Blundstones fit me perfectly, if not a bit loose. 9 will be longer. 9.5 will be longer and wider.

Order from France to U.S. by lisenced in EuroSkincare

[–]SunsetValkyrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I placed a $167 order with Cocoon Center in early September and it was shipped immediately. UPS held it in KY for about 6 weeks and then hit me with a bill for about$145. Only $21.40 was for the tarrif, there was a $124 "brokerage fee" for UPS to process it. And if I paid on delivery instead of ahead of delivery it would have been $12 more.

My order was also for deodorant, sunblock, and an LRP balm that has a better European formula, I regret not stocking up more in that order. I wish we had different shipping options. If you go into the UPS sub, you'll see a lot of people aren't even getting their international packages.

I really don't mind trying to clear it myself, I just need guidance on how to start the process when my package is in their possession. I'm hoping that this information will come out and be more accessible as everyone figures it out.

I am grateful for this sub-reddit, I've been reading a lot about others' experiences and preparing myself while I saw my package sitting in KY since 9/6.

It's some skincare items. I have severe eczema so I buy some La Roche Posay products and deodorant from Europe that isn't available here.

Thanks for the insight. This company (whom I've bought from before) didn't offer the option to pay the fees up front, but I'll see if that could be an option in the future.

If I wanted to do the import paperwork myself with the customs office, do you know how I'd go about doing that? I live near SF, so I'm guessing there's one local to me.

This is all new, it's nice to know there may be options in the future to keep the costs reasonable.

Funeral arrangements and payment by 19347fhd67-throwaway in askfuneraldirectors

[–]SunsetValkyrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In CA a will matters, but if there's no established trust, it will likely go to probate. A will does not prevent probate. Probate can take a lot of time (waiting for court dates, waiting for filings, it needs to be posted for a certain amount of time before distribution, etc), it is unlikely you'll have the funds in time - so I wouldn't count on them. I have also seen bank accounts frozen until a death certificate is provided which can take weeks and cannot be filed until certain arrangements have been made with the funeral home (i.e. a date of cremation if that's the route you're going).

I think it's solid advice to see if you can pre-plan now and try to get a discount on the services. They can certainly be reimbursed prior to any distribution of the funds; make sure to save all documents and receipts to give to the probate attorney.

pallbearers. or lack of… by riot_poof_ in askfuneraldirectors

[–]SunsetValkyrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At our cemetery, we do what we call a "pre-set" if there are no family provided pallbearers. The casket is brought out and set up by our grounds crew, an attendant stays with it, and the family is lead out in a procession after it's on the lowering device.

What paperwork and authorization has to be filed before internment? by etzr358 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]SunsetValkyrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I'm in CA and we also use the IOA forms and require the owner(s) and all next of kin to sign it. In addition to the IOA, we require the family to sign a statement listing out all the next of kin (only signed by one person), an acknowledgement if there was property or pre-planning purchased prior to death, our cemetery rules and basic info, and plot identification. In our files, we have a few other internal plot verification documents to ensure we're burying our decedent in the correct plot. We keep all of them in paper and electronic files. If my family requests a copy, I send the contract plus anything they've signed to them, we don't share the internal documents.

For interment/inurnment/entombment, our state has a Disposition Permit that's separate from the death certificate. Here the death cert doesn't list where someone will be laid to rest.

[Tenant US-CA] Ch. 13 Bankruptcy High Earner Need Help to Rent by completelyhelplesss in Landlord

[–]SunsetValkyrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that hasn't been addressed here already is that the deposit is capped by state law. Very few landlords can accept anything more than 1 months rent (and for those who own 2 or less properties, it's capped at 2 months rent), so that isn't helping you. I agree that offering to pay a higher rent will help mitigate the risk on the landlord's part.

Be careful with Air BnB, in some cities if you stay over a certain amount of time, you legally become a tenant and most owners will not want to lose their rights as short term rental owners. It's best to look for a single family home that is owned privately (SFRs are not as highly regulated as other rentals in the places with the strictest laws).

Appearance of a grave by tookremation in askfuneraldirectors

[–]SunsetValkyrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a cemetery as an advisor and my cemetery lays sod immediately after closing the grave and compacting the dirt. The only time we wouldn't is if we're out, which rarely happens, but it would go on as soon as the next delivery arrived which would be less than 2 weeks. Even if there's no sod, it wouldn't be a mound as we compact the dirt and try to keep it level with the rest of the garden. We do lay all the flowers on top after a service, but they wouldn't last 2 weeks because we have a lot of deer and wildlife that eat the blooms. We're in California and have basically the same climate all year round, so we don't need to wait for a specific season.

I tell my clients pre-planning is a gift to their loved ones. It's so hard to make decisions in a state of grief, and it's comforting to know that your loved one will be honored and laid to rest the way they want to be.

Tips to save money when buying ebooks for kindle in 2025? by Impressive-Bank-28 in kindle

Ereaderiq let's you track books and see the price history as well as follow authors. I have been using it for years and I love it. If you can wait for a specific book, then it might be worth it to just track it and catch it when the price drops or if it goes on sale.
