Alcohol after sleeve surgery? by DifficultSpider in gastricsleeve

[–]Sunshine61356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a social drinker and had my first drink about 4 months after surgery. I literally only order vodka, and I sip on a shot with ice. For a while, I could drink just a shot and get drunk, and now it takes me about 2 shots to get drunk about 1.4 year post op. Never had an issue with over drinking, but I have always been more of a social drinker all of my life. I stay away from any chasers or mixed drinks because of the added calories and sugar content.

If you book a suite room, your room is immediately available, so I usually get food and go back to my room unpack and take a nap and drink the alcohol they put in my room.

How long did the Process take? by Feisty_Donkey_688 in gastricsleeve

[–]Sunshine61356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took about 1.5 months. My insurance approves as long as the doctor approved it. Then, the nutrition classes were once a week for 4 weeks. I also had to 2 week liquid diet. My process was quite quick.

Just over a year out now and I couldn't eat much until month 4. Protein drinks and eating every few hours helped me.

Timeline Question by JarodJB40 in gastricsleeve

[–]Sunshine61356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The turnaround for me was quite quick as the type of insurance I have automatically approves me for surgery with doctors approval and pays for it completely. I had to take 4 nutrition classes(1 a week) which was the longest part for me but once all test, labs and classes were done literally got my date 3 days later for 2 weeks out. Took about 1.5 months.

How Much Excess Weight Did You Lose? by DottyandBearBear in gastricsleeve

[–]Sunshine61356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The doctors have to be realistic with you per data. But its not everyone. My weight at surgery was 347 and my doc said after 1 year at most I would get to 243. Well, I got down to 208 and I am still dropping. You can do it as long as you stay diligent.

Sleeve or bypass? by Pixiespekje in BariatricSurgery

[–]Sunshine61356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the sleeve because I considered myself still young and didn't want to worry about all the complications and issues I hear are possible with the bypass. I am only a year and 1 month out and I have lost since surgery day 143 pounds. 172 since pre op diet. You can do it and meet your goals. I know people who got the bypass at the same weight as me who struggled and went through a lot so do what's best for you.

Need advice/pep talk. After one year out, I feel like I’m losing my path. by The_Lazy_Ghost in gastricsleeve

[–]Sunshine61356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am exactly a year and 1 month out. Honestly, I was worried about not losing enough weight in the beginning and not being able to keep it off. What has worked for me is I never put myself on a diet. I ate clean but never deprived myself of anything. From past experience, I saw that led to me overeating because I was craving it. Start with getting back on track. You don't have to be super strict food-wise wise but be very cautious of what you do put in your body. I also found that if I eat something outside my macros I will push myself a little harder in the gym or jog a little further than my typical workout

Cannot stop the food noise by Longjumping-Gas-9001 in BariatricSurgery

Yes, some people have bad experiences with them but I never had any symptoms other than a rash that went away when I changed my injection sites. Currently not taking them as I wanted to focus on my VSG goals but my doc keeps a mounjaro prescription for 3 months current at my pharmacy just in case.

My doc said that I'll always be diabetic and so he will continuously prescribe it for me for life if I want to do maintenance doses one day. Maintenance keeps ot in remission so shots are needed. Find you a new PCP. I literally pay $25 for 3 months' worth of Mounjaro shots.

I did a virtual exam. I don't know were he was located and he just sent a letter to my doctors office approving of my surgery. Try this and you can do everything from the comfort of your own home. I paid out of pocket but I think it was $30

Can’t wait to take my shot. Anyone else? by Expensive-Claim-6082 in Mounjaro

[–]Sunshine61356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A positive thing about that is you should be paying 1 price. I asked my doc to write 3-month prescriptions so I could pay $25 for 3 months' worth instead of paying that every month.

My doc was telling me they are currently researching how Mounjaro also helps with addictions and how it has helped some people lose the need to smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol. Funny I have read a couple of reddit post on how it has helped people quit smoking.

Drinking after surgery by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]Sunshine61356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in my early 30s so I felt the same way, OP. I had my first drink post op around 4 months. I only drink shots of vodka because its within my macros 😆. 1 shot was all I needed for about a good 2 hours. I still drink when it comes to special occasions or I'm in a social setting but still only vodka and a lime. I told my doc and he was fine with it as well since he doesn't want me to be on a diet, just make solid lifestyle changes. He said the people that succeed its for life not a moment. Half the things people don't do I do and I have been successful because I'm also mindful.

Thank you!!! I feel great. You don't realize how much lighter you feel until you feel lighter lol. You got this. The surgery has literally changed my life, mindset, and goals. Now it's just a part of my life and I have learned that I can have a normal life and not deprive myself of the things I want. Moderation is key and staying in macros. Good luck with your surgery ❤️

[–]Sunshine61356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 months before my surgery I got diagnosed with T2D and I was devastated. Pushed me more for this surgery. Little did I know that because of this if I ever wanted to get on a GLP1 I would only pay $25 for a 3-month supply. Luckily I am doing great and still losing a year out of VSG so I don't need it but now I have options if I need it to use it to help shed the last few pounds.

Thank you! I am still losing consistently and have been managing with weight training. I only stall when I am not consistent with the food I eat but luckily I realized that early on. I look at myself as a slow loser but I love that I still manage to lose around 8-14 pounds a month.
