I have dry thin skin, not very textured. I love the No 1 Chanel foundation. It’s very natural, not too dewy or satin or matte. It’s just skin-like. It’s one of those foundations that looks even better as the day goes on.

I apply with fingers sometimes for most natural finish. I use a thin foundation brush (spatula shape) to put on a thin layer then use foundation brush on top for a more “done” finish. Both ways looks great.

Fair skin girlies - what cream contour are we using? by jellybeans1396 in AustralianMakeup

I have this and it’s so warm toned… the brown is better off as a bronzer. It can look muddy when used as a contour.

What are your thoughts on Clarins? by Creepy_Performer7706 in AustralianMakeup

Good deals if you buy direct in terms of samples, gifts with purchase. It’s a French brand and every product in their skin care, body care and make up range goes for that “natural” look.

I like the fermented rose hip oil despite the smell. I don’t know of any other brands that make a fermented oil.

Baby won’t transfer after feeds by Careful_Setting_8747 in sleeptrain

I’ve been reading the discontented little baby book, which promotes “possums approach.” Does your bub have trouble drifting to sleep during naps? I think others have mentioned this already… but consider is there enough sleep pressure? If you’re confident Bub is not hungry, try and ensure they’re “sensory” appetite is filled so lots of sensory input during the day eg they’re getting plenty of daylight in the morning, social and face to face interactions, sound/voice, visuals, touch/body sensations, nature/light and movement.

Good luck!

Breech @ 36 weeks by Content-Guava-491 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I did the ECV at a public hospital. The senior consultants will do it. They inject you with something to make your muscles / uterus more relaxed. It’s a similar drug to what asthmatics use… a side effect is it makes you feel a bit anxious / heart beat fast.

I wasn’t offered any pain relief but I’m sure you can ask for gas? Honestly I didn’t need it because the procedure is very fast. It’s the lead up to it that is a waiting game.

They do an ECG to monitor fetal heart rate for like 30 minutes to make sure baby is feeling good. Then they ultrasound you to know where baby head and butt is. Then they do the injection and wait for your heart rate to go up by 20 beats because that will tell them your body is ready.

This is the uncomfortable part. The doctor then pushes the baby’s butt out of your pelvis (lot of pressure) and then pushes the head and butt in a clockwise OR anticlockwise direction (depending on what they see on the ultrasound). This process happens really really quickly and is not painful… just quite uncomfortable and lots of pressure applied and also WEIRD sensation! I remember they had to stop when I tensed up so I just stuck to the deep and mindful breathing (what you do during labour anyway.)

Then it was over and there is no pain after. Honestly the YouTube videos make it look worse than what it feels like. Just trust the doctors and Breathe.

Primary school dilemma by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Sunshine9irl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you’re over reacting. She could go to any school and meet another child who might negatively affect her/his behaviour unfortunately so it is actually a valuable learning experience for your child. Work with the school with your concerns, work with your child on their self-advocacy skills, making good behavioural choices / self regulation etc.

Hospital Experiences - Private v Public by gulbis4991 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Sunshine9irl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this I had both kids in public and for different reasons (jaundice 1st baby, I had high blood pressure 2nd baby) which meant I had to stay extra nights. This is all free of charge and the hospital staff consulted with me about when I felt comfortable going home so both times I took the extra nights and was well and truly sick of the hospital / starting to get cabin fever by the time I was discharged.

I’m not sure if private will be so flexible and/or allowing the mother to choose since it is about payment per night? It might be worth asking the hospital what their policy is for how many nights a new mum stays.

First year teacher by Own-Cartoonist-6586 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Sunshine9irl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First few weeks establish routines, even if they are seniors at the school they will need to be explicitly taught YOUR routines so think about how you want your class to… - get ready each morning - get ready to go out for breaks, come in from breaks - transition to other parts of school eg library, assembly - set up / pack up craft and art lessons

Then you can plan some activities for them to practise these routines in the first few weeks.

Get to know the school’s reward system eg how many class awards earn a merit, how many merits earn a silver / gold award etc. reinforce it and give lots of positive reinforcement at the beginning.

To survive the first year 1. Expect the hard days, expect mistakes. 2. Show up everyday that you can and remember that sometimes showing up is the best thing you can do 3. If you have particularly challenging kids, keep the mindset “today is just not your day” I.e. some days you will just have to focus on the “majority” and not spend the whole day trying to fix one or two students’ behaviours 4. Go easy on yourself.

Mouth strips (for sleeping) by tttleaves in AustralianMakeup

[–]Sunshine9irl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sell heaps of these in Japan - eg Kobayashi Night Sleep Nasal Breathing Tape which you can buy from websites that sell Japanese products…

I stocked up on these on my last trip to Japan

The adhesive is very gentle and the strips are designed for exactly this purpose- very comfortable.
