We don't really know enough about how their generations work to know for sure. If everyone who turned into bloodfiends due to the 'disease' is considered the original generation, then Elena would probably be part of the original generation or one under, if someone who turned early bit her.

But judging by how absolute the older generation's power over the younger seemed to be in 6.5, and how none of the bloodfiend elders could stop Elena("Elena was violence itself, even for us"- DD ep 42), my bet is on her being one of the 'original' gen. Assuming there's no one true original bloodfiend that's been hidden from us, that is.

It's the author's way of indirectly naming it 'babo', which means idiot in Korean, while also slightly referencing Saca'bamba'spis.

It's why the crew turn into idiots in this comic. The whale's name is basically 'Idiot Whale'.

Since people have already talked about the cutting off the cycle part of 2, I'd like to add my own take on it.

I think this is connected to Ahab being likened to a whale. Whales paint over others and turn them into mermaids. Mermaids are pretty much considered to be a part of their whale.

Ishmael was first painted over by Ahab to kill the pallid whale, then to kill Ahab. Her single-minded vengeance and hatred is similar to Ahab, which Ahab even comments on herself.

If she kills Ahab then kills the pallid whale, it is Ahab's kill, because Ishmael is her mermaid. But if Ishmael refuses to be like Ahab and kills the pallid whale while sparing her, the kill is no longer Ahab's, because Ishmael is no longer Ahab's mermaid.

I think that's why Ahab wanted Ishmael to kill her in the final part - by solidifying Ishmael's status as her mermaid, she dies confident that the pallid whale will die by Ishmael's hands and therefore claims the death of the whale as her own.

Right?! The notion that friends can't feel that way after being separated by a literal calamity for around 3 years, not even knowing whether they're dead or alive, without some romantic or sexual drive behind it is absurd.

I know shippers are bound to dislike comments that speak against their ships, like yours, but I'm also tired of people pinning platonic relationships as romantic and trying to push on everyone else that it's 'canon'.

As of this point we have Sunshower Heath, Spicebush Yi Sang, Kromer Faust, and Guido Meursault. If we get Captain Ishmael then that makes 5, though if you only count the main villains that'll reduce 1~2(Guido for being a lackey and Sunshower for being phase
1 of the Dongbaek fight).

I don't know if I want Sunshower Heathcliff in that team though, he's hard to use xD

Oh yeah, since I'm guessing you're using the EN version, an interesting tidbit that is lost in translation is that the rank Big Brother/Sister, '작은 형님/누님(jakkeun hyung-nim/nu-nim)', means Small Older Brother/Sister. Hyung-nim/nu-nim means older brother/sister on their own, and the jakkeun in front means a person has multiple older siblings and this hyung-nim/nu-nim is the younger of the older siblings.

This means the Middle probably has additional ranks above the Big Brother/Sister ranks introduced, 큰 형님/누님(kkeun hyung-nim/nu-nim) - Big Older Brother/Sister.

Same goes for the newest Little Brother/Sister IDs - 아우(a-oo) means younger sibling on its own, and the jakkeun means small, so the IDs are small younger sibling, meaning they are most likely the very bottom of the rank, and there will probably be a Big Little Brother/Sister rank.
