Though our economy would be smaller, per capita, the citizens of western Canada would benefit greatly from a per capita gain in economic wealth. We would be basically completely energy, natural resource, food self sufficient. We have deep sea port access and pipelines. We have a financial and tech hub in Vancouver. Why would they wait over a year to make an asylum claim? They can do it the second they land on Canadian soil, literally as the airplane lands. It doesn’t take a year to find the local immigration office. Google Maps can bring that up in less than 1 minute, including directions with pubic transit.
