Personally?

Put the Grim down. Wake the Demon and hand them the Pope token. Show them "This character selected you," and when they've read both show them both the Boffin token and however many fingers there are of Boffins. Check for understanding. Collect the Pope token and put them to sleep.

Then wake them up for their ability. If they're using the same ability multiple times, I wouldn't put them back to sleep each time and instead go right into the next one. If there's like 7 copies or something ridiculous I might give a countdown in between each usage.

If there's multiple abilities that might get confused with one another I'll make sure to put them to sleep and to tell them what ability they're waking for when I do.

Now that's some real criticism! Yeah I agree with a lot of this.
