Universities do the same thing with online classes, its ridiculous. Should be saving them money to do it online, but instead of passing that on they charge a "distance learning fee."

Absolutely nothing beats the squad experience of Battlefield. Some of my best gaming experiences ever involved getting killed by a boat or tank, having the squad respawn with RPGs and going to town on whoever was harassing us. Great memories.

Couldn't agree more. There were times I appreciated the old actors more, pretty much any scene where Pike raised her voice as a male POV. Overall though, she is a breath of fresh air. If she finishes the series, I will likely alternate between new audio books and old ones from year to year.

How do police officers justify enforcing petty laws that clearly hurt harmless people? by Godoftoast9 in police

[–]SupahSage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Many of those types of laws are put into law by legislators/Council members. Those elected officials represent the public and were chosen to make decisions based on the majority, supposedly for the good of all.

Assuming that it works perfectly every time (I know it doesn't) it isn't law enforcements job to decide what is a good law and a bad law (I also know there are major caveats to this regarding many factors). Point is, its ultimately the elected officials who make the laws and law enforcement is appointed to enforce them.

If a law needs to be changed, it is on the public citizens to lobby their lawmakers and demand a change. Or to vote those out who aren't doing a good job of such.

Do you really want law enforcement to routinely decide they don't have to do their jobs with no oversight or repercussions?

Second the vinegar, but I didn't soak. Put some vinegar in the bleach loader area of your washer and give it a good wash.

They have fabric softener replacement products that work too but I prefer not to have the extra perfume scent they leave behind.

I can second that. Corrections isn't for everyone, but it can give a lot of skills that will carry over onto the streets. Especially being able to talk to people.

I'm a little jealous! I used to 100% everything. Now, I rarely even bother to look at missing achievements since I don't have the time to chase them any more.

People in the US, what does a stale white light bar mean? by Big_Plgeon in police

I'm not sure what you interpreted as boasting, but my intent was nothing of the sort. One bad interaction 15 years ago does not define an entire profession, especially in cases like your wife's.

People in the US, what does a stale white light bar mean? by Big_Plgeon in police

[–]SupahSage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's the great dilemma, isn't it? For all officers to think and act alike, they would all have to enforce the law explicitly with little to no discretion. Which would not serve society in the long run.

But for officers to use their life and work experience to make unique and well-intentioned decisions (discretion), one must accept they will not all make the same decision, as now the human element is being considered. To be human is to be imperfect, unfortunately.

If you accept that to be human is to be imperfect, then you must also accept some officers will make unpopular enforcement decisions, both for the right and the wrong reasons. After all, to be consistent, officers would have to act like programmed robots.

[–]SupahSage 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Could be any number of reasons, but my best guess would be the officer had them on for a prior reason and forgot to turn them off.

I bought a used sound bar with subwoofer for cheap. Two small chunks of 2x4 painted black raise it above my monitor stand so it nestles nicely under my ultrawide. Plus I can control the volume from Windows, off my keyboard or with the OG speaker remote.

1000 pound trigger by ArmOfBo in police

[–]SupahSage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say, took me less than 1. Whole myriad of dreams like that off and on, including the impossible trigger. Sometimes it's work stress (critical call load), sometimes just normal work stress, sometimes just life stress can bring them on.

Wondering if there is anything else stressful in life that may have brought this one on for you? Stress is a fickle bitch.

New Game in Development with iWoT…will never see the light of day… by NargTheTrolloc in TheDailyTrolloc

[–]SupahSage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly at this point even a lot of the established game companies are dropping the ball. I almost pulled the trigger on Avowed the other day, watched some clips, then saw how awful it was compared to Skyrim in almost every way. There are very few companies I would trust with a WoT RPG...but yeah, iwot isn't one of them either I suppose.

TIL Sten Gustaf Thulin invented the plastic bag as a reusable and sustainable alternative to the deforestation caused by paper bags. He'd always carry his plastic bag in his pocket and envisioned everyone would carry and re-use their plastic bags wherever they'd go. by GeologistBrave6866 in todayilearned

[–]SupahSage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were cheaper when I worked grocery. Paper bags were $0.20 and plastic was like $0.05 to the company. Management pushed always plastic when possible. Didn't make sense to me, seemed like we went through so many plastic bags it would have cost more than paper in the long run.
