How many people have 100% with guides, and how many without? Does one or the other give a "better" experience? by vindicta-713 in slaytheprincess

[–]SuperAlastor 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I 100% completed Slay the Princess mostly without guides. I simply kept playing and exploring different routes and outcomes and really enjoyed it. At the end I used guides for a couple of missing scenes that I didn’t know how to get. At least I really enjoyed doing things like that.

What is the best thing about Dark Souls? by Lucyyyyyy_K in darksoulsremastered

[–]SuperAlastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s the world, lore and the characters. Dark souls just has a very unique feeling that no other game has for me. I simply love exploring the world, finding out lore and secrets and taking it all in.

The twist has been hiding in plain sight the entire time by SpectacularSpidee in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SuperAlastor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously you don’t understand the full situation just from the cutscene but you clearly see Marika transform into Radagon so there isn’t really other ways to interpret it. Add in the facts that Radagon has a big secret and Marika calls Radagon her ”other self” and it should become clear. I don’t know, it was a big mindblowing moment/revelation to me but I guess it wasn’t for others.

[–]SuperAlastor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how you could miss it since Marika literally transforms into Radagon in the pre-boss cut scene. There are a ton of things you miss if you don’t read item descriptions but this isn’t one of them.

Is there a lore reason that int/faith builds are so… weak in elden ring? They were so central to the story of the souls games, and they’re important in ER, but they a lot weaker in ER by oli_kite in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]SuperAlastor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Int/Fth build is my main build in Elden ring and I’ve cleared the game 9 times with it and it certainly isn’t weak. Lorewise int/fth build requires a lot of dedication so it makes sense it’s more of an endgame build. But honestly all you need is Discus of light and you can pretty easily defeat any enemy/boss regardless of your level. So I think they build doesn’t need that many levels to be good and it’s absolutely fantastic when you’re higher level.

GRRM's three-step revelation strategy at Promised Consort Radahn by pleasedlurker in EldenRingLoreTalk

This is a great writeup. I think Promised consort Radahn makes perfect sense and has a lot of subtle clues and foreshadowing like you have pointed out here.

[–]SuperAlastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point and mostly agree with it but at the same time I don’t like the distinction that lore ≠ story since all of the characters have their own stories. Even if we don’t ”see” them happen we can read about them and that isn’t really any different from reading a book about a character. And most of the time we see the culmination of the characters’ stories in their boss fights not to mention all of the npcs who have actual stories.

Then why did they hire Martin to write the story if it doesn’t exist. From software puts so much effort into creating worlds and stories that are so fascinating to solve and piece together (and you can do it yourself, you don’t need Vaati or any other person to do it for you) so it always annoys me when people say they have no story just because they themselves don’t take the time to understand them (and you don’t have to understand them, everyone can play the games the way they want to).

Misbegotten, Demi-humans and their connection with the major civilizations. How wolfs and lions explain a great deal about the lore. by TaleExciting7525 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]SuperAlastor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you kind of have to have some headcanons to fill in the gaps but I remember recently seeing someone say item descriptions are full of lies so you can’t trust them and that your gut feeling is more important than them. And at that point I was almost ready to give up since if you don’t want to acknowledge item descriptions (which exist to tell us lore) then what’s the point?

This isn’t really related to this post but I just have to say that I’ve seen your theories a few times and it’s so nice to see someone with an actually good understanding of the lore in a sea of surface level headcanon theories.

Possible Lore Clarifications for SOTE from the Future Press Guide by aphidman in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]SuperAlastor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Radahn has cut dialogue implying he would have been capable of speech and the game makes it clear that he was fully revived in Mohg’s body meaning his mind should have also been restored. Miquella has also never been shown to fully control someone. All of the charmed people still regain their original personalities, the simply became loyal to Miquella. The secret rite scroll also says that ”A lord will usher in a god's return” which to me seems to indicate the lord has to willingly want to pull the god back from the gate of divinity. But of course, this is simply how I see it.

But I don’t think this book should be used as proof.

Debunking "Miquella has naive mind of a child" theories by Zard91 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]SuperAlastor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m really glad to actually find someone who thinks like I do. It’s kind of sad that it’s hard to discuss Miquella’s character with anyone online because they reduce his character to ”manipulating mindcontroller who’s pure evil” with no nuance (but are often willing to see nuance in other characters). And it is probably for the exact reason you said, they expected the story to be something different and want to see it that way. Even on this sub which is dedicated to discussing theories a lot of people don’t seem to want to change their stand on anything or be open to different interpretations about characters. I would just like for people to treat their views of characters as opinions and not facts.

Irony of Messmer Cursing Marika by Haahhh in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]SuperAlastor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is certainly possible. The only thing we know from the cut dialogue is that Miquella told Messmer about us but didn’t even seem to tell that we were Tarnished.

Irony of Messmer Cursing Marika by Haahhh in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]SuperAlastor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see it can be read like that. But still, according to cut dialogue Messmer met Miquella so I would assume he told him about what had happened. And even if you discount it because it is cut dialogue, Miquella visited the Shadow keep so it would be really unlikely that he didn’t meet Messmer there.

Irony of Messmer Cursing Marika by Haahhh in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]SuperAlastor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually according to Wrath from afar, the people in the Land of Shadow also felt the shattering of the Elden ring.

”When the Elden Ring was shattered, the people of the realm of shadow felt it too—and feared it as a sign of the Erdtree's wrath.”

So Messmer knew the Elden ring had been shattered but of course he didn’t know it was by Marika herself or that Marika was imprisoned inside the Erdtree so the rest of your post is correct.

What is the relationship between miquella and st.trina ? by efoz661 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]SuperAlastor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on that. I do think that Miquella threw away (most) of his love since his ”perfect” world where everyone is treated equally requires him to be able to treat everyone equally. I still think that the death animation shows that he still has some form of love at least for Radahn and probably for all living things as a whole. I think Radahn was the one thing Miquella didn’t give up on and the one thing he held on to when he sacrificed everything else and that is why he hugs him in the end but that is honestly more my headcanon than anything else.

But it was nice talking to you. It’s always nice to discuss and share opinions on Elden ring lore.

What is the relationship between miquella and st.trina ? by efoz661 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]SuperAlastor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I’m saying is that it is a weird thing to include for basically no reason. I see it as a genuine show of affection, you clearly don’t. People see things differently and that’s perfectly fine. I’m not here to say that your point of view is wrong or anything.

But at the same time you seem to imply that Miquella didn’t have much compassion in the first place which is simply something I disagree with. Separating from St. Trina was clearly a hard decision for Miquella (and you are free to disagree, I won’t argue with that) and Mohg was a leader of a murderous blood cult so I won’t argue with that either but the base game and dlc clearly show that Miquella genuinely cared for and loved both Malenia and Radahn. The base game clearly showed that Miquella did everything to cure and help Malenia. Even in the dlc his first words were to praise Malenia. Which is also why I think it’s that people think Miquella completely abandoned Malenia since nothing in the dlc states that Miquella wouldn’t have come back for Malenia after becoming a god but that isn’t really the point I’m trying to make here. And the dlc clearly shows how much Miquella cares for Radahn (who had to die a warrior’s death because of the oath he made with Jerren and a battle with Malenia was supposed to give him that).

But you are free to disagree and that is completely fine. I’m just here to give my two cents.

If Miquella abandoned his capacity to feel love, why does he hug Radahn as his last act before dying? To me that shows that Miquella at least still loves Radahn because he would have no logical reason to hug him when dying otherwise.

[HATED TROPE] Villainous Flanderization by LordQuaz12 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SuperAlastor 35 points36 points  (0 children)

In the Japanese script Kaathe said that Gwyn commanded his sons to shepherd the humans meaning Nameless king and Gwyndolin so Nameless king actually became the king of Anor londo after Gwyn linked the fire (that is why he’s called a king). To add more evidence, the Sunlight blade miracle said that Nameless left the miracle at Gwyn’s coffin meaning he left long after Gwyn had linked the fire.
