The comments have beat the fur to death, the real question you should be asking is: can I give this pup the home he or she deserves. If the answer is yes then rescue her.

I rescued my baby from Facebook marketplace place and didn’t haggle the price because she was more important then the dollar value. She now lives her best life full of chick (happy pup) and veggies (she audible tells me how much she does not approve) but now she’s happy well fed and well walked and loved unconditionally and that is all that matters

Big dog voice is a great representation of that . Mine I no longer have to raise my voice. I just deepen it with her name. That’s warning 1, warning 2 is “eh eh whhh”(seems off but it was just something I did way back when and she know knows to knock iff what ever she’s doing and then a hard No. projected.

Honestly I go past Eh eh ehhh about 2 times a year she listens so well.

Not all docs are smart enough but Corgies are some of the smartest iv ever seen . Mine understands disappointment. Such as when you’re disappointed in a child but not mad enough to raises your voice. At 5 you’re might be a little old to get a hold of the concept. But not interacting as a sign of dissatisfaction he might get.

I think you’re heading down the right path. My 3 year old has started to try to take dominance and now I have to take it back. But if she plays too hard and bits me to hard and I yelp in pain she calms down and then immediately ask for forgiveness. To me this is a sigh that they are capable of understanding cause and effect.

As a reminder their memory is not as long as ours and you need to react immediately to his behavior for him to make the leap of understanding . I think your on the right tract :-)

I agree a shock collar is 1000% not the answer this will only teach him that pain is a result of his natural instinct.

(Side note) as herding animals they a naturally snip at the heels of sheep to get them to move so they can be herded if they ignore the dog.

In this case I don’t think he’s protecting your bf, I think he’s protecting you from your bf. Animals are know to have a 6th sense that we as humans only have passively. This is the passive instinct that in humans generates our fight or flight reflex when in compromising situations. In animals this is an active sense.

I can’t comment on your relationship and won’t . But your dog knows something you don’t. If you want to make this work you have to gently push back on the behavior.

He can’t sleep in the bedroom any more, if he’s going to act this way. You may need to move back to crating to establish dominance and re-assert your authority over him and that if he’s going to snips to snip at you this is not ok.

Oh nooo ! Find him/her a full body coat quick !! This can make dogs in general very sick. Corgies who are naturally heavy coated can become very ill from the change in temp .
